Apparently the new Naked Gun movie is quite good

The original films are respectable now I guess

Isn't it usually a bad sign when the embargo is so close to the premiere? I'm hoping it's good, the trailer and all those posters have been excellent, in my opinion.

by Anonymousreply 1July 15, 2025 1:20 PM

I don't think one rando's comment on "X" is an indication that the movie is universally adored.

by Anonymousreply 2July 15, 2025 1:31 PM

She writes for Variety you freaking dumbass.

by Anonymousreply 3July 15, 2025 1:35 PM

I Have "The Naked Gun Trilogy" DVD sign by Mr Leslie Nielsen. Thanks CHILLER!

R3 So....some rando on "X." Thanks for confirming!

by Anonymousreply 5July 15, 2025 1:37 PM

I love the originals so I am always afraid of reboots.

by Anonymousreply 6July 15, 2025 1:45 PM

R1 The premiere is still 2+ weeks out. Your theory applies when the embargo is lifted a day or two before release. This is actually a positive sign.

by Anonymousreply 7July 15, 2025 1:47 PM

Most film reviews are posted at noon Pacific on the Wednesday before. Social media reactions are usually allowed the week of.

by Anonymousreply 8July 15, 2025 3:38 PM

92% fresh with 90 reviews, including some calling it the funniest movie in years

The Kardashians are now "respectable". It's a low bar.

by Anonymousreply 10July 30, 2025 6:45 PM

I liked in the preview when Neeson said some guy had been in jail for "man's laughter" and his colleague corrected him and said: "That's manslaughter....."

by Anonymousreply 11July 30, 2025 6:47 PM

Thank god it’s good because I needed this.

by Anonymousreply 12July 30, 2025 6:50 PM

I wish they would have cast someone somewhat younger.

by Anonymousreply 13July 30, 2025 6:53 PM

Well Pam hit bottom with that showgirl movie that was "generating Oscar buzz". I guess John Peters wasn't as generous as reported.

Liam is in that weird sexy category with Jeff Goldblum and Ed Begley and all are passed their prime

If it's a hit, the movie could save both careers. I've always had a soft spot for Pam.

by Anonymousreply 14July 30, 2025 6:58 PM

I’m going Saturday. I’m excited!

by Anonymousreply 15July 30, 2025 7:05 PM

r11 That kind of dumb joke is perfect for this movie, but translators in other countries are going to struggle mightily with wordplay like that. I know the French translator just gave up for the "surely/Shirley" joke in Airplane!

by Anonymousreply 16July 30, 2025 7:10 PM

I saw a preview a few nights ago and it's very funny. I was skeptical about Liam Neeson as Drebin but he does a good job and the tone is very much the same as the original trilogy. Pamela Anderson is very funny as well. I wish the trailer hadn't given away so many of the jokes but there's still enough gags throughout that I'll need to watch a couple more times to catch everything I missed the first time. Sure the originals are probably better but it felt great to just laugh for 90 minutes.

by Anonymousreply 17July 30, 2025 7:14 PM

The first trailer with the little girl was unfunny, but the second was much more promising and I will give it a chance.

by Anonymousreply 18July 30, 2025 7:14 PM

R18 Thank you! Thank you for giving it a chance!

by Anonymousreply 19July 30, 2025 11:44 PM

The preview made it look like it has a lot of toilet humor.

by Anonymousreply 20July 30, 2025 11:50 PM

I saw an early preview. Really bad. It’s corny. The original films are classics and came during a time when political correctness wasn’t smothering everybody. You can really tell that with this film. I get what they were trying to do with the casting but this is mid at best. I’m sure with everything going on in the world people may seek it out for a laugh no matter how lame it ends up being.

by Anonymousreply 21July 30, 2025 11:52 PM

[quote] I liked in the preview when Neeson said some guy had been in jail for "man's laughter" and his colleague corrected him and said: "That's manslaughter....."

Seriously? You liked that? Man, comedy is truly in the toilet.

by Anonymousreply 22July 30, 2025 11:54 PM

The rampant trolls who try to sink every movie premiere are so fucking tiresome at this point. You're all so laughably transparent with your bullshit, everyone sees right through you.

by Anonymousreply 23July 31, 2025 12:14 AM

I fucking want toilet humor and aimlessly funny movies again. I don’t want every movie to be fucking cerebral.

by Anonymousreply 24July 31, 2025 12:16 AM

I admit I laughed at the "take a seat" bit.

by Anonymousreply 25July 31, 2025 12:50 AM

So Liam and Pam are a thing in real life?

That's quite an unlikely pair. But good on Pam, gettin' another dude with a big ol' cock.

by Anonymousreply 26July 31, 2025 12:59 AM

You are welcome Liam, R18!

by Anonymousreply 27July 31, 2025 1:07 AM

Variety gives it a poor review.

He’s too old. I don’t care. I know there were generational differences in the 80s but Lesley Nielsen was still middle aged when the films started. He just was older middle aged and much better looking than Liam Neeson.

by Anonymousreply 29July 31, 2025 8:41 AM

So this is the 34th Naked Gun film? Aren’t people tired of this shit yet?

by Anonymousreply 30July 31, 2025 11:05 AM

I'm in.

So far, "Sinners", "Superman" and, based on the reviews "The Naked Gun" all have provided me another good excuse to pay too much for a Cherry Pepsi and a tub of popcorn slathered in that delicious chemical industrial product so generously termed "butter".

by Anonymousreply 31July 31, 2025 11:22 AM

But you’re not going to see Fantastic Flop?

by Anonymousreply 32July 31, 2025 11:25 AM

Did they cast Liam Neeson because his name sounds similar to Leslie Nielsen?

by Anonymousreply 33July 31, 2025 11:49 AM

r32, I know. That's sort of weird to me, too, given my taste for big budget schlock.

I haven't yet put my finger on why, but for some reason, I'm not motivated to go to the theatre to see Fantastic 4.

Maybe one Marvel run of movies is enough for me- "Iron Man" to "Avengers: Endgame"- that I just don't want to invest time and money into another 10 year plot line.

by Anonymousreply 34July 31, 2025 11:53 AM

We’re going Saturday morning.

by Anonymousreply 35July 31, 2025 7:54 PM

Too much CGI, lame jokes, rehashes of the original films. Hollywood is desperate.

by Anonymousreply 36July 31, 2025 8:50 PM

Even the long legs poster is a rip-off.

by Anonymousreply 37July 31, 2025 8:51 PM

Enjoy it as much as I did, Pam.

by Anonymousreply 38July 31, 2025 9:23 PM

Watching a Kazakhstani cam version as I type and I had no idea Kevin Durand was in this, he's not a very good actor. Hopefully he's not the main villain.

I think I'll wait for an American print because the audience isn't laughing in this one and I can't with that.
