Meet the new Harry Potter

He looks like a wee lesbian

Filming started earlier today, so I've been expecting a production photo like this one from HBO.

But yes, he does seem vaguely androgynous, and also not at all like he looked in the casting reveal? I wonder what he'll look like five and ten years from now, kiddie casting always has the potential to go horribly wrong.

by Anonymousreply 1July 14, 2025 3:47 PM

Does he have that Benjamin Buttons disease?

by Anonymousreply 2July 14, 2025 4:01 PM

Looks like an old person dwarf. Or is that aging makeup for a scene?

by Anonymousreply 3July 14, 2025 4:02 PM

Oh good, they’re doing this shit all over again? Just what the world needs — a rehash of derivative fantasy.

[quote]Oh good, they’re doing this shit all over again? Just what the world needs — a rehash of derivative fantasy.

First movie was released right after 9/11, I think some of our older posters might have a difficulty grasping that that was a quarter of a century ago. Secondly, it's in a different medium that allows the whole thing more breathing space.

And lastly, those early movies are basically unwatchable now because some of the CG is toe-curlingly bad.

by Anonymousreply 7July 14, 2025 4:26 PM

That’s a little boy. People are posting mockery of his appearance? Internet, don’t ever stop being you.

by Anonymousreply 8July 14, 2025 4:27 PM

The full photo is much better. Look at those baby fingers, he's so young!

I think it's the terrible haircut that ages him into that lesbian look. Although it is supposed to be tussled and unruly, per the books.

I don't understand this endeavor. Cash grab?

by Anonymousreply 10July 14, 2025 4:46 PM

You don't understand the concept of an adaptation? Also, studios are businesses that produce things to make money. They aren't charitable entities.

by Anonymousreply 11July 14, 2025 4:48 PM

HBO's press release confirms it'll premiere in 2027. Sucks, but at least all seven seasons have already been greenlit, per insiders.

by Anonymousreply 12July 14, 2025 4:49 PM

I’m surprised they didn’t use a non-binary, mixed race, handicapped individual with an infinite amount of pronouns.

by Anonymousreply 13July 14, 2025 4:52 PM

He has the unhealthy pallor of a vegan lesbian in her late 40s who insists that she’s ‘Never felt better!’ but clearly has an iron and calcium deficiency which is why she has the same bone density as a sparrow.

by Anonymousreply 14July 14, 2025 5:04 PM

If people already don’t like this casting, what do they think of the Herimone and Snape castings?

by Anonymousreply 15July 14, 2025 5:08 PM

The actor they cast as Neville Longbottom (lower left) is just the most adorable little thing. But will he grow up into a stud like Matthew David Lewis? Stay tuned!

by Anonymousreply 16July 14, 2025 5:43 PM

Why don't the studios come up with new ideas and let these franchises die already.

by Anonymousreply 17July 14, 2025 5:47 PM

[Quote] He has the unhealthy pallor

Oh dear.

by Anonymousreply 18July 14, 2025 5:57 PM

He looks AI generated.

by Anonymousreply 19July 14, 2025 7:22 PM

Poor kid will be bullied

by Anonymousreply 20July 14, 2025 8:21 PM

What a nice fantasy, D14. I’m sure you feel really superior.

by Anonymousreply 21July 14, 2025 8:25 PM

R14^

by Anonymousreply 22July 14, 2025 8:25 PM

What a hot young stud!

by Anonymousreply 23July 14, 2025 9:02 PM

[quote]He looks AI generated.

I think that's a good way to put it; he looks like a generated picture of Harry Potter, not an actual kid. Rather strange

At the beginning of the story, HP was sort of beaten down, half-starved little thing, so I think the young HP needs to look a bit more like a rug rat and not have such a smack-worthy face

by Anonymousreply 24July 14, 2025 11:01 PM

I hope he doesn't become an alcoholic like Radcliffe.

by Anonymousreply 25July 14, 2025 11:03 PM

He looks like a spinster secretary who works in the office of a middle school.

by Anonymousreply 26July 14, 2025 11:07 PM

By accepting this role, this child is endorsing TRANS GENOCIDE!

by Anonymousreply 27July 14, 2025 11:10 PM

Who?

by Anonymousreply 28July 14, 2025 11:19 PM

Have they checked his genitals? I don’t want to be fucked with.

by Anonymousreply 29July 15, 2025 12:04 AM

MINGE!

by Anonymousreply 30July 15, 2025 3:53 AM

Not feeling Hagrid's look at all. He's way too handsome, he's basically a half beast in the books.

Full photo is at the bottom of the article.

by Anonymousreply 31July 15, 2025 2:27 PM

Is he TRANS?

by Anonymousreply 32July 15, 2025 2:32 PM

I'm sure he has a stipulation in his contract that he can't transition for the duration of the filming. And the courts refashioned by Trump would totally uphold that if challenged.

Speaking of, tr4nnies and their enablers are losing their shit on the socials and being incredibly nasty to these poor kids. It's been more than a year since the show's announcement and they are nowhere near the acceptance stage.

by Anonymousreply 33July 15, 2025 2:38 PM

I read that as a full bottom in photo.

by Anonymousreply 34July 15, 2025 2:56 PM

[quote]Why don't the studios come up with new ideas and let these franchises die already.

I once read an article which quoted some very famous "script doctor" who is extremely well-paid to write and fix bad scripts. He basically says that whatever Hollywood produces is, in fact, the best of what they're able to produce. There are very few "hidden gems" or overlooked brilliant scripts.

Both franchises and remakes are seen as reducing financial risk because they're proven properties with built-in audiences.

by Anonymousreply 35July 15, 2025 3:05 PM

I hope people asking why this is being made also realise this studio runs several HP theme parks that make good money. So it's a bit like asking why Disney keeps making Disney movies...

by Anonymousreply 36July 15, 2025 3:10 PM

He looks like Rachel Maddow.

by Anonymousreply 37July 15, 2025 3:12 PM

Anything associated with JK is going to bring out the trolls looking for ANYTHING - any phrase, any glance - to tear apart and denounce her and the series.

Bet on it.

by Anonymousreply 38July 15, 2025 3:13 PM

Daniel Radcliffe was an ugly little English kid too 🤷🏻‍♂️

Was, still is. It’s not like they have good stock to pull from.

by Anonymousreply 39July 15, 2025 3:34 PM

R39 - so not true - I thought it was amazing they could get a child (Daniel) in real-life who looked so similar to the books.

by Anonymousreply 40July 15, 2025 4:06 PM

I’m surprised they’ve gone for live action. You’d think as a reboot it would work great as animation and avoid the gamble you take casting kids for decade long roles.

by Anonymousreply 41July 15, 2025 5:26 PM

r41 It's very difficult to market an animated show to adults, there's just this barrier that's difficult to overcome. They will make so much more money with a live action that whole families can watch. And then visit a theme park afterwards.

by Anonymousreply 42July 15, 2025 6:51 PM

He's a male who resembles the female author, like the last one. Nuff said

by Anonymousreply 43July 16, 2025 5:55 AM

Another thing no one wanted nor asked for. Warner Bros wonders why they’re almost bankrupt.

by Anonymousreply 44July 16, 2025 6:18 AM

Didn't read past the first few posts. He's a kid. Let him be one. Some of you sound pervy.

by Anonymousreply 48July 16, 2025 5:28 PM

R43 I meant lol

by Anonymousreply 49July 16, 2025 5:29 PM

Does he suffer from encephalitis? His head looks swollen.

by Anonymousreply 50July 16, 2025 5:42 PM

HE’S A TERF!!!!!

by Anonymousreply 51July 16, 2025 5:46 PM

Voldemort has now been cast as well and will appear in several episodes of the first season, but they'll try to keep the actor a secret so it'll be a surprise when pops up for the first time. I assume it won't be another Depp situation where the surprise was of the unpleasant variety.

In any case, that actor has now been spared another year and a half of harassment and possibly also death threats by... well, we all know who.

by Anonymousreply 52July 16, 2025 6:17 PM

He’s not going to be attached to the back of someone else’s head?

by Anonymousreply 53July 16, 2025 6:36 PM

Looks like a young Rosie O'Donnell

by Anonymousreply 54July 16, 2025 6:50 PM

I assume it's for the flashback scenes, r53. Maybe a montage of his past evil deeds? They're gonna have to fill up the airtime somehow, even with only (rumoured) six episodes for the first two seasons. It's a short book and the first movie covered mostly everything from it.

by Anonymousreply 55July 16, 2025 7:54 PM

How many episodes a season, 6?

by Anonymousreply 56July 18, 2025 6:38 PM

While I can see having six episodes for the first three seasons, once you get to the fourth book, ain't no way you're doing that in less than 10 if the whole point of this series is ostensibly to do a more "faithful" adaptation of the books and include stuff that had to be cut out of the movies.

by Anonymousreply 57July 18, 2025 6:58 PM

[quote]I’m surprised they didn’t use a non-binary, mixed race, handicapped individual with an infinite amount of pronouns.

I'd give it time on at least two of those qualifiers based on the photo.

Hopefully people are asking Rowling what this Harry's pronouns are and causing her to grind her fangs incessantly.

by Anonymousreply 58July 18, 2025 8:15 PM

22 episodes a season.

by Anonymousreply 59July 19, 2025 3:09 AM

r59 Where did you get that from? There was a rumour going around earlier this week that it's six per season (at least for the first two seasons), but that remains unconfirmed. It's certainly under ten.

by Anonymousreply 60July 19, 2025 3:52 AM

Six per season is barely expanding from the movies. What’s the point.

by Anonymousreply 61July 19, 2025 4:18 AM

The first movie was two and a half hours and covered mostly everything in that short first book. The first season is going to be at least six hours long, which is why they've cast the Minister of Magic – they're going to frontload stuff from the later books because otherwise they'd quickly run out of material, plus they'll have more manoeuvring space later on when there's more plot.

In addition to that, they've also cast Nicolas Flamel and his wife Perenelle, so they'll definitely be padding it out a bit as well with scenes not in the books.

by Anonymousreply 62July 19, 2025 5:01 AM

Ian Hart was pretty cute in the movie, but they've cast an even cuter Quirrell for the show. I get homo vibes, but can't be certain, his socials are non-existent.

[quote]they've cast an even cuter Quirrell

How can a Nazi TERF be cute?

by Anonymousreply 64July 19, 2025 5:18 AM

^ Eh?

by Anonymousreply 65July 19, 2025 6:55 AM

r65 Probably just a joke, it refers to the go-to response of the haters. They used to think calling anyone who didn't agree with their agenda TERFs was all it took to dismiss them, because who knew building a coalition entails more than using dehumanising slurs. They especially enjoyed calling Britain TERF Island.

And so now they're gooped because these roles are getting filled with famous and Shakespearean actors, making them realise people are just fucking done with their shit.

by Anonymousreply 66July 19, 2025 7:39 AM

R13-Infinite amount of pronouns 🙃

by Anonymousreply 67July 19, 2025 11:35 AM

Lily Tino should play Rita Skeeter

by Anonymousreply 68July 19, 2025 12:21 PM

Lily Tomlin should play Rita Beasly

by Anonymousreply 69July 19, 2025 5:54 PM

I wonder if any of the kids will come out as non-binary. Like the girl who played Lady Mortmont in Game Of Thrones.

by Anonymousreply 70July 20, 2025 4:13 PM

First look at the Dursleys.

British fans seem delighted, they've always cringed at their film version. Well, at least in the earlier movies, it gets better later on when Dudley starts looking like a proper chav.

by Anonymousreply 71July 21, 2025 12:31 PM

Pa Dursley looks like Danny Dyer.

If only. I’d love to see him in a Harry Potter.

by Anonymousreply 72July 21, 2025 2:41 PM

Yeah, he does look exactly like Danny Dyer, I had to google the casting again just to make sure it wasn't him before I posted that photo.

I think he's too busy with the expanded second season of Rivals right now.

by Anonymousreply 73July 21, 2025 2:45 PM

This time we're giving him puberty blockers- so we don't end-up with this.

In one of the movies, Harry’s eyebrows changed shaped from scene to scene. He must have changed the person who waxed his unibrow during reshoots.

by Anonymousreply 78July 21, 2025 5:35 PM

r78 I wonder if that's Dominic (Harry) in the back or if he's a double as well.

by Anonymousreply 79July 21, 2025 6:00 PM

By the way, it's now been confirmed the first season will have eight hour-long episodes. So we're getting eight hours for the shortest book.

by Anonymousreply 80July 21, 2025 6:01 PM

That’s pretty cool, we won’t get to Hogwarts until at the 2nd episode.

by Anonymousreply 81July 21, 2025 8:42 PM

[quote] Yeah, he does look exactly like Danny Dyer, I had to google the casting again just to make sure it wasn't him before I posted that photo. I think he's too busy with the expanded second season of Rivals right now.

Danny is a freshly minted BAFTA winner, so maybe he’ll use his critical acclaim to be cast in a later season. He said he auditioned for Game Of Thrones a few times.

Another who complained about being one of the only actors in Britain who wasn’t in Harry Potter is Richard E. Grant.

by Anonymousreply 82July 21, 2025 8:46 PM

The Durlseys look more 80s than 90s!

by Anonymousreply 83July 24, 2025 5:15 PM

Put a chick it and make it gay and lame!!

by Anonymousreply 84July 24, 2025 5:21 PM

r83 No, the '80s had louder colours and crazier hair. This is pure '90s. I had a similar jacket (well, windbreaker) as Dudley in that shot.

The only thing that's cusping are Vernon's glasses, but he's supposed to be a bit old-fashioned, so it tracks.

by Anonymousreply 85July 24, 2025 5:42 PM

Yeah, that’s true. I doubt Vernon cared too much about men’s fashion.

by Anonymousreply 86July 24, 2025 10:40 PM

Petunia Dursley is pure 1990s petit bourgeois stay at home wife. Her sunglasses are slightly out of date but that works too. Became a secretary at 17, married at 22. Then 25 years later they are amazed that their daughters actually have to work for a living after marriage.

by Anonymousreply 87July 25, 2025 2:07 PM

I can't wait to see their particular brand of cruelty towards Harry, although something tells me they'll be humanised instead of just allowing them to be the cartoonish villains that they are in the books. I finished the French translation of the first book last week (now reading the second one), and the Dursleys' delicious awfulness was my favourite part!
