I've never had a cat, so I didn't realize they could be so affectionate.
I adopted a senior cat and it took him about 2 months before he wanted cuddles. I wasn't expecting cuddles but I got them. They always make me feel very calm.

R1, is he a rescue cat?
by Anonymous | reply 3 | July 10, 2025 12:56 AM |
Are you getting one now, op? Best decision i ever made.

My cat cuddles when he wants to cuddle. It's up to him and when he does curl up with me, we both purr.

Beautiful post OP. I've been around cats and dogs my whole life and even those most aloof cats can surprise you with the most affectionate gestures. And vocalizations.
As r1 suggests, something seems to happen to senior cats, they become philosophical or something, and they become even more loving - and sometimes more attuned to our habits than we are. I had one who would gently open my eyes with his paw if I slept more than a few seconds past my alarm. Then he'd groom my hair and scalp.
Real Dollface.

R3. Yup, he's a rescue. Somehow he ended up on the streets and was taken in by a cat mom before I adopted him. He's incredibly affectionate.

Meh, my dog does that too. And he smells way better.

all three of ours go through their love-cat shtick daily with us (husband home with them most days), but we've had them since they were kittens (they are five years old). they are also all males, two of them litter mates, all three were rescue adopters. they are kind of the center of our domestic life. I think it must the toxoplasmosis they use to control us - that should concern me, but honestly, things are so less bleak since they arrived.

my cat (rip) was always more affectionate than my dog. she would grasp my arm between her paws to force me to pet her, and she had to touch me while she slept. i called her velcro kitty.

Every cat I've ever known has wanted physical affection to some degree. Even the most aloof ones usually have at least one person they seek out for love. Most are affectionate if they trust you.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | July 10, 2025 2:54 AM |
Never trust a cat. It only sees you as a food source and does convincing shit to manipulate you. Don't be played.

Cats will demand that you pet them when they're in the mood. But when you're in the mood and they're not, you might as well be a complete stranger. They will not come anywhere near you for love nor money

So the same as most gay men, then.

You don't know how to communicate with them r14. Based on your posts I believe you could be a great cat companion.

In almost 60 years I have never had a cat who WASN'T affectionate like the ones in the video. Headbutting, (politely or not-so politely) tapping you on the hand/leg/face to request more noogies, meowing in ever-increasing decibels and syllables to ask for more love, cock-blocking other cats/pets from getting any human love--cats run the fucking gamut.
And some of the worst offenders are the "FFs" (formerly ferals) who wake up one day and decide "Yeah, goin' in HOT for *alllllll* the affection; this "feral" shit is for the birds." My Wyki and Alastair are in this category. Often in bed I have to actually put my head AND hands under the blankets to keep them safe from insistent paws and headbutts.

I've got three. One spends most of the time outside, one is happy just to sleep on the couch all day, and one is a needy little asshole. She will not leave me alone. I'm hoping she grows out of this phase.

I know everyone says this about their own, but my three are just awesome cats. It's a lotta tussling, chasing, and oddly enough, conspiring together in cunning fashion for either treats or top post on the big cat tree, when they aren't being the nicest, most shockingly bonded and good natured lot. And yes, that took, and still takes, some work, but again, it's their house, I'm just the caretaker that brings food, litter, and catnip home.

My cat will when she wants to. I do notice that she tends to land wherever I am even if she is not cuddling.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | July 10, 2025 12:12 PM |
that is their sign of affection

My dog always taps me when she wants a doggie massage with her ears twirled.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | July 10, 2025 12:52 PM |
When my cat cuddles up next to me in bed he sometimes slips his paw in my hand and goes to sleep. It's such a good feeling because I know he feels safe and he trusts me.

r9, cats don't stink, unless they're sick. Almost all dogs have that doggy smell (with the exception of Doodles). I always have to wash my hands after petting dogs to get the doggy smell off. Healthy cats smell slightly sweet.
Anyway, i've had rescue cats all my life (including Bengals (but I'm not the guy from Boston), and I've been lucky enough to have all of them to be affectionate.

I was joking, R24. And I love that doggie summer smell !

I beg your fucking pardon r24 and r26?
