Lana hated it so much that she wore a veil to the set, and fought with her longtime friend and makeup artist Del Armstrong for making her look so haggard and frumpy for the character's later scenes in the film. Turner commented: "When I thought he'd made me look horrible enough, he said 'You ain't seen nothing yet,' and he meant it. I mean, I've had some bad mornings in my time, but I've never looked like that." Do you think it was hagsploitation of the highest order, or was our glamorous cock queen being her typical melodramatic self?

There was a remake of this in 1981 with Tuesday Weld I believe.
She was good in that but I prefer this version.

Plot description alone is ridiculous, don't complain about makeup when you sign up for this melodramatic shit.

Lana was vain and preoccupied with glamour, and I think this personality flaw negatively impacted a lot of her performances. People accuse of her of being a pinup girl who couldn't act, but I think that's an oversimplification. She did give some solid performances in her career, this being one of them. She was by many accounts professional, too, and worked hard.

Gladys George and Ruth Chatterton looked just as bad, if not worse, in their versions. The character is pretty much a drink-sodden bag lady, so she needs to be shockingly awful-looking.
