Anti-semitism and entitled dilettantism are real boner killers.

by Anonymousreply 2July 9, 2025 3:22 AM

Oh, yeah, outrage. Because every Italian American I know identifies with and reveres Christopher Columbus. It’s not 1910 folks.

by Anonymousreply 3July 9, 2025 4:11 AM

[quote]Mamdani stokes Italian American outrage

LUIGI!!

by Anonymousreply 4July 9, 2025 4:13 AM

Ewww, are you blind?

Get your eyes checked pronto!

Or better yet, raise your standards!!!

by Anonymousreply 5July 9, 2025 4:15 AM

The right ringers at the Post are all-in on identify politics all of a sudden. Wonder why?

by Anonymousreply 6July 9, 2025 4:40 AM

Now is the perfect moment to replace that monstrosity with a statue of Lieutenant Columbo.

by Anonymousreply 7July 9, 2025 7:05 AM

Every attack on him is an emotional appeal to hierarchy.

by Anonymousreply 8July 9, 2025 7:16 AM

What's with the half-assed greasy Superman curl on the forehead?

by Anonymousreply 9July 9, 2025 11:49 AM

He’s cute not hot. Christopher Columbus was a genocidal tyrant. Outrage not forming!

by Anonymousreply 10July 9, 2025 11:52 AM

Muslims will never forgive themselves that they did not discover and colonize America. But they were focused on Western Europe and India at that time.

by Anonymousreply 11July 9, 2025 11:59 AM

r11 that's not entirely untrue.

Also, the Americas were not going to remain untouched forever. If Europeans hadn't discovered it, others would have eventually.

Could you even imagine a Muslim colonization of the Americas? It would've made the European colonization look like fucking Disneyland.

by Anonymousreply 12July 9, 2025 12:25 PM

my boi-p*ssy stinks🤮...

by Anonymousreply 13July 9, 2025 12:32 PM

Italian Americans are such stupid loudmouths

by Anonymousreply 14July 9, 2025 12:33 PM

There is a new story every day with this guy. Are you Mamdani fans sure you've backed the right horse?

by Anonymousreply 15July 9, 2025 12:37 PM

Why should the rest of the country care this much about who is elected mayor of NYC? I hear more about this guy than 95% of the members of Congress.

New York hasn't exactly had a shining record when it comes to mayors, anyway.

by Anonymousreply 16July 9, 2025 12:48 PM

Is there any group he hasn’t insulted or mocked yet? Jews, 9/11 victims, Italians… he’s on a roll!

by Anonymousreply 17July 9, 2025 12:54 PM

[quote]Italian Americans are such stupid loudmouths

This here. This is one of the big indicators that many DLers are elderly shut-ins who haven't communicated with the outside world in decades.

Here in New England there are tons of Italian Americans and they're fully assimilated, they are no different than any other caucasian ethnic group.

by Anonymousreply 18July 9, 2025 12:58 PM

R15 try educating yourself about the right wing outrage machine. Learn media literacy. Develop critical thinking skills. It's really never too late to learn and grow.

by Anonymousreply 19July 9, 2025 1:00 PM

R18's experiences are universal, everyone. Listen up, class is in session.

by Anonymousreply 20July 9, 2025 1:01 PM

R18 oh please. those dagos are all pickpockets and chimneysweeps.

by Anonymousreply 21July 9, 2025 1:01 PM

r20 you need to get out in the world and stop living in the past.

by Anonymousreply 22July 9, 2025 1:09 PM

lol ok hon. I guess I should go to New England to learn about the world, too.

by Anonymousreply 23July 9, 2025 1:11 PM

In 1964, when the Verrazzano Bridge from Brooklyn to Staten Island opened, so many thousands of Italians moved from Bensonhurst and Bay Ridge, lifelong Staten Islanders called it "The Guinea Gangplank."

by Anonymousreply 24July 9, 2025 1:15 PM

I'm not feeling it.

by Anonymousreply 25July 9, 2025 1:18 PM

r23 it's also the Northeast in general, except for maybe a few neighborhoods in the NY Metro area. Italians, like the Irish, are 100% Americanized now.

The Italian shit with eldergays is so bizarre. And I'm hardly young myself, I'm almost 50. When I was in school in the 80s and early 90s there was no distinction between the Italian-American kids and the other white kids.

DL is like a bizarre parallel universe sometimes.

by Anonymousreply 26July 9, 2025 1:20 PM

[quote]In 1964, when the Verrazzano Bridge from Brooklyn to Staten Island opened, so many thousands of Italians moved from Bensonhurst and Bay Ridge, lifelong Staten Islanders called it "The Guinea Gangplank."

Too funny. If huge numbers of Italians moved to Staten Island today instead of the current crop of immigrants, they'd hold a fucking parade for them.

by Anonymousreply 27July 9, 2025 1:21 PM

R26, I live in a large Northeast city with a large Italian American presence. Neighbors up and down both sides of my street have Italian last names. There are also many Italian Americans in my extended family. One whole side is almost 100% Italian.

I also leave my house quite regularly and am neither "elderly" nor a "shut-in."

No one is claiming Italian Americans are unassimilated. That's just you using that word. No one is claiming Italians are using Mario and Luigi accents and making meatballs and praying novenas and doing mob hits all day. We know Italians are assimilated. We are not stupid.

But it's undeniable that many - not all - Italian Americans, like Irish and Polish and German Americans, still have a distinct culture, and that culture often expresses itself in a heavy-handed, overbearing, LOUD way. Denying this and pretending it doesn't exist anywhere because of your limited New England experience doesn't change that. Go to Staten Island or South Philadelphia and tell me Italians are as assimilated as Boston Brahmins. Go watch Andrew Cuomo or Jeanine Pirro and tell me Italians are never "loud mouthed" or overbearing.

No, this stereotype doesn't apply to all, but to claim it's long since been eradicated through assimilation is laughable to many of us.

by Anonymousreply 28July 9, 2025 1:34 PM

R26 I was just shitposting because I think old-fashioned intra-white racism is funny, but DL is so dead serious.

by Anonymousreply 29July 9, 2025 1:54 PM

[quote]] He’s cute not hot. Christopher Columbus was a genocidal tyrant. Outrage not forming!

What nonsense! If it were not for those European explorers, none of us would be here, and there would be no United States in which Mamdani could seek public office.

by Anonymousreply 30July 9, 2025 2:01 PM

r28 it's mostly been eradicated except for some distinct neighborhoods, as has already been noted.

BTW, Andrew Cuomo is pretty much like every other loud mouthed white dude from the NY area. There are tons on non-Italian white guys who behave exactly like him. Maybe it's more of a NY-area thing rather than an ethnic thing.

by Anonymousreply 31July 9, 2025 2:06 PM

[quote]Denying this and pretending it doesn't exist anywhere because of your limited New England experience doesn't change that.

I was just using New England as an example. Italian-Americans are pretty much assimilated all over the US except for some neighborhoods.

by Anonymousreply 32July 9, 2025 2:07 PM

This is just a convenient rhetorical weapon for non-Mamdami Italian voters (which is most Italian voters) to pick up and hurl at him.

by Anonymousreply 33July 9, 2025 2:09 PM

[quote] If it were not for those European explorers, none of us would be here, and there would be no United States in which Mamdani could seek public office.

Yes, true, but none of that negates the fact that starting with Columbus those "explorers" were often also brutal exploiters. It's not anything we can do anything about, except to try to build a better, more fair country. But if somebody wants to point at that Columbus was a moral monster, well, yeah, he kinda was. It's not a trauma for somebody to point that out. Acknowledge it, and then get to voting for the only candidate who actually gives a shit about doing anything about New York's current problems.

by Anonymousreply 34July 9, 2025 2:24 PM

[quote]Yes, true, but none of that negates the fact that starting with Columbus those "explorers" were often also brutal exploiters.

It was the same story that has happened throughout history. The colonization/settling of what became the United States was typical of all the other colonizations/settlings all over the world that preceded it. History is violent and ugly.

by Anonymousreply 35July 9, 2025 2:29 PM

Also true, r35, but the difference is nobody is asking anybody to pretend that Genghis Khan or Attilla the Hun or Julius Caesar weren't monsters in many ways. They were all other things as well, of course, but still nobody feels some silly need to pretend that attacking them is some horrifying attack on their ethnic group. They did amazing things, sucked in many ways, and we don't need to pretend either wasn't happening.

I will say the scale of the death in the New World was different, but really that has a lot more to do with diseases spreading so easily to a population that had no immunity. The real genocidal maniac was the smallpox virus, but the colonizers certainly didn't mind helping things along with the occasional slaughter as needed or wanted.

by Anonymousreply 36July 9, 2025 2:38 PM

[quote][R28] it's mostly been eradicated except for some distinct neighborhoods, as has already been noted

Staten Island is not a "neighborhood." It's a borough. South Philadelphia is also not a "neighborhood," it's nearly 20% of the entire city's geography and contains dozens of actual neighborhoods.

It was claimed above that Italian Americans are 100% assimilated with no trace of their native culture and that is laughably false to those of us in these "neighborhoods." It's also worth noting that this culture persists well outside of these "neighborhoods" all across the northeast, including all of New Jersey, much of upstate NY, large swathes of Pennsylvania, and, of course, New England.

by Anonymousreply 37July 9, 2025 2:38 PM

r37 yes there are pockets just like there are with all ethnic groups but the eldergays for God knows what reason seem to have a hard-on for believing Italian-Americans are all guido types everywhere. It's truly bizarre. Most of them today are the same as other white ethnic groups. And yes, 100% assimilated.

by Anonymousreply 38July 9, 2025 2:42 PM

[quote] It's also worth noting that this culture persists well outside of these "neighborhoods" all across the northeast, including all of New Jersey, much of upstate NY, large swathes of Pennsylvania, and, of course, New England.

Not entirely true. NJ and PA and NE have huge numbers of Italian Americans who are totally assimilated.

by Anonymousreply 39July 9, 2025 2:44 PM

Seems like all the air is coming out of his socialist balloon.

by Anonymousreply 40July 9, 2025 2:44 PM

[quote]try educating yourself … Develop critical thinking skills. It's really never too late to learn and grow.

So persuasive r19. Being patronizing is such a sure-fire tactic to sway people to vote for Mamdani.

by Anonymousreply 41July 9, 2025 2:47 PM

It almost seems like more of a DL insider joke at this point r38. I don't know. Maybe some are seriously concerned about whether Italians are "truly" white, but mostly it just seems like a funny, kinda dumb gotcha thing to say to Italian American racists, that hey, bitch, you sure you're really white yourself?

by Anonymousreply 42July 9, 2025 2:49 PM

[quote]Mamdani is so hot

This FAMILY GUY clip was made about women voters, but I think it also applies to many gays, particularly the effeminate type, who tend to be like women in many ways, including voting emotionally rather than rationally.

Yes, them homos and chicks is nothing like the douchebros out there voting for the calm rationality of Trump. In fact, is there any tiny part of the Trump Cult that doesn't come down to ME NO LIKE, ME GRRR, ME VOTE MAD!!!

by Anonymousreply 44July 9, 2025 2:57 PM

R35 not to mention, hominins (e.g. Homo sapiens, Neanderthals, Denisovans) have been displacing each other the world over for millennia.

And when Homo sapiens crossed over the Bering Strait into the Americas around 15,000 years ago, they caused the extinction of several prehistoric animals (e.g. wooly mammoths).

by Anonymousreply 45July 9, 2025 3:00 PM

r45 Homo Sapiens caused the extinction of Neanderthals. If we had video of what actually happened, it would most likely be appalling.

by Anonymousreply 46July 9, 2025 3:05 PM

[quote]God knows what reason seem to have a hard-on for believing Italian-Americans are all guido types everywhere. It's truly bizarre. Most of them today are the same as other white ethnic groups. And yes, 100% assimilated.

I wonder why it bothers some of you so much when DL says that Italians aren't white-white.

by Anonymousreply 47July 9, 2025 6:38 PM

Because it's archaic and stupid r47

by Anonymousreply 48July 9, 2025 6:54 PM

[quote]Because it's archaic and stupid [R47]

If people stopped posting shit on DL because it's archaic and stupid, the board when dry up and wither away.

by Anonymousreply 49July 9, 2025 7:04 PM

Because it's equal parts racist and ignorant, moron. You announce your own stupidity every time you trot that out.

by Anonymousreply 50July 9, 2025 7:05 PM

You queens are gonna be so upset when he wins

by Anonymousreply 51July 9, 2025 8:21 PM

not all of us r51. I fully expect him to win, and he is the only one who seems like he won't just go through the motions of pretending to care about all groups and all factions. Instead, I suspect he wants to get real things done, and not just play make believe with commissions and stale initiatives.

by Anonymousreply 52July 9, 2025 8:26 PM

R39- Who assimilated them?

THE BORG

by Anonymousreply 53July 9, 2025 8:30 PM

New Yorkers love him.

by Anonymousreply 54July 9, 2025 8:34 PM

I can't wait til he wins. I'm not a New Yorker but I'm thrilled we're seeing a Democratic Socialist elected mayor of the country's largest city. Democrats need a new direction and it's not to the right that so many mistake for the center. The center is well to the left of Democrats like Andrew Cuomo and Kirsten Gillibrand.

by Anonymousreply 55July 9, 2025 8:53 PM

My opinion on him will be anathema here, but put simply, I just don’t know what to make of him. He truly seems like a unique phenomenon. I haven’t seen someone like him before.

I’m watching everyone try to put him in their respective boxes of A vs B, but he doesn’t fit any of those narratives.

It’s a fascinating experiment that I’m actually looking forward to seeing develop.

by Anonymousreply 56July 9, 2025 9:04 PM

Just as an aside, he reminds me of a hotter Muslim Lin Manuel Miranda. And Miranda is very popular.

by Anonymousreply 58July 9, 2025 11:48 PM

Italian Americans may have fully assimilated but they still have a unique culture, especially those in the northeast. Italy Americans act just like black people. They just get white privelege.

by Anonymousreply 59July 9, 2025 11:50 PM

He's very cute and I'd definitely do him, but hot is a stretch.

by Anonymousreply 60July 9, 2025 11:50 PM

by Anonymousreply 63July 10, 2025 12:05 AM

R62 Autotype. Meant Italian Americans.

by Anonymousreply 64July 10, 2025 12:07 AM

r64 you're still a total moron.

by Anonymousreply 66July 10, 2025 12:56 AM

It's not as effective as we'd hoped r66

by Anonymousreply 67July 10, 2025 1:01 AM

he’s got a great platform and connects with voters quite well, but he’ll get totally ratfucked by the establishment if he gets elected, and they’ll hold him up as an example of why “socialism doesn’t work”.

by Anonymousreply 68July 10, 2025 1:48 AM

He doesn't seem all that Punjabi Hindu from his mom.

by Anonymousreply 69July 10, 2025 1:52 AM

He can win the primary but they will cheat the general election against him.

by Anonymousreply 70July 10, 2025 1:54 AM

Maybe r68, but I suspect he's not going to accept the traditional rule that the job of every Democrat is to get kicked in the dick and consider it a moral victory.

by Anonymousreply 71July 10, 2025 1:55 AM

I hope he wins. He won’t be very good in the job, but Democrats need a new type of candidate to get voters excited and get disengaged people to the polls. That’s how Trump won twice.

by Anonymousreply 72July 10, 2025 1:58 AM

R65 Fuck you. Angry ass.

by Anonymousreply 73July 10, 2025 2:01 AM

R72 That’s exactly how I feel.

by Anonymousreply 74July 10, 2025 2:02 AM

by Anonymousreply 80July 10, 2025 3:21 PM

R79 wow nice racism. There are plenty of clean and well taken care of black neighborhoods. It’s unfortunate you only know about projectish neighborhoods in big cities.

by Anonymousreply 81July 10, 2025 4:12 PM

r81 Italian American neighborhoods are very well-kept and have a strong sense of community. And those hot AF Italian boys have always been very, very generous to my Irish-German ass! 😉

by Anonymousreply 82July 10, 2025 4:20 PM

Those Italian neighborhoods are so clean because of the Mob. You guys completely ignore the ingrained criminal element in that community, while complaining about black people. Shame shame shame.
