ABC is still struggling to make 'GMA 3' a hit after seven seasons, and has decided to axe cohost DeMarco Morgan (who has not hosted the show in weeks), who joined the network in 2022. Co-host Eva Pilgrim announced she's leaving the show to host 'Inside Edition' on CBS, an announcement she made before ABC fired her, after working for the network for ten years.
The talk show - an afternoon extension of their popular morning show 'Good Morning America' - premiered in September, 2018 as a replacement for the canceled 'The Chew'. It was titled "GMA Day", and co-hosted by GMA anchor Michael Strahan and The View panelist Sara Haines. The show never caught on with viewers, constantly losing to its competition on CBS and NBC, so ABC rebranded the show in January, 2019 to " GMA3: Strahan & Sara". That never gained traction, so they added a third host - Keke Palmer - and rebranded it once again to "GMA3: Strahan, Sara & Keke" just seven months later.
Once the pandemic hit in March, 2020, ABC pulled the three hosts from the show and replaced them with news reporter Amy Robach and medical correspondent Dr. Jen Ashton for a show called "Pandemic: What You Need to Know". By August, 2020, ABC officially canceled "GMA3: Strahan, Sara & Keke" , and brought in GMA correspondent TJ Holmes to join Robach and Ashton for the newly titled "GMA3: What You Need to Know", focusing on news headlines as well as 'lifestyle and entertainment' news.
For the next two seasons, the show improved in the ratings as audiences took to Robach and Holmes. The two cohosts took to each other, and began an extramarital affair which became very public by the fall of 2022. By December, the two hosts were 'put on leave', and finally axed from the network in January, 2023. ABC announced DeMarco Morgan and Eva Pilgrim as the new hosts to join Ashton. In June, 2024 Ashton left ABC. The show started losing viewers shortly after.
In March, 2025, there were major changes behind the scenes. starting with a new producer and cut-backs to staff. Rumors started flying that ABC would be firing the two hosts, and bringing in another new concept. DeMarco Morgan was pulled from the show in June, and different GMA hosts filled in on a rotating schedule. Pilgrim announced she was leaving the show on July 7. A few hours later, ABC announced Morgan was leaving the network.
For now, the show has been rebranded as "GMA 3" and will rotate hosts from "Good Morning America" 's talent pool.
