Isabelle Adjani and Sam Neill's performances in "Possession" (1981)

This film has become a horror hipster cornerstone in internet circles, but I think the praise is deserved. The performances between these two (especially Adjani's) are deranged and terrifying. The movie is insane but gorgeously photographed and compelling from start to finish. I can't think of more intense performances in any horror movie—even "The Exorcist" doesn't come close.
