Today we can commemorate the birth of two important people in pop culture history:
Nancy Reagan and her best friend, Merv Griffin.
Nancy was born in 1921 (though she loved to tell the press 1926 when her husband was elected President in 1980) and died in March 6, 2016 at the age of 94. Daughter Patti Reagan, estranged from Nancy for many years, described her mother Nancy as a pill-popping, alcoholic child-beating, adulteress who enjoyed playing the socialite in Washington, DC (in her thinly veiled memoir 'Home Front' from the mid-80s. Patti and Nancy made up in the early 2000s, when she realized she wouldn't be getting a dime from Nancy's will.
Merv Griffin was born in 1925, was everyone's favortie TV talk host in the 1960s - 1980s. Griffin was said to be romancing Eva Gabor until her death on July 4, 1995. But choreographer Denney Terrio filed a lawsuit in 1991, claiming Griffin (producer of one of Terrio's shows) sexually harassed him, and sued for $11.3M. but the suit was later dismissed. (Griffin never admitted he was gay, but it was widely speculated). Griffin, who claimed Nancy Reagan was his very best friend since their early days in Hollywood, died in 2007.
