In my country it didn't even make the evening news, but Val Kilmer and Coolio's deaths did.
I know he wasn't Richard Gere-level famous, but he was still a well-known actor.

He wasn't even that big in the US, why would it make the evening news abroad? He just never was a household name.

A Tarantino repertory guy

Coolio died?!
by Anonymous | reply 3 | July 6, 2025 6:04 PM |
I didn't know Coolio was dead? Overdose - wow.
Michael Madsen didn't have a ton of big roles unfortunately.

I guess he was kind of a niche actor but, yeah, I’m surprised it’s not a bigger deal because many people are fans of Tarantino films. Also Thelma and Louise was a big phenomenon when it was released.

Wait. Val Kilmer died?
by Anonymous | reply 6 | July 6, 2025 6:54 PM |
r6 Joan Crawford did, also.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | July 6, 2025 6:59 PM |
Who?
by Anonymous | reply 8 | July 6, 2025 7:04 PM |
I never heard of this actor until the other day when he died. When I looked up his movie career, I realized I never saw any of the movies he was in.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | July 6, 2025 7:05 PM |
He was no Michael Bowen.

Michael Madsen's death has been a big deal in the media. I keep reading about him, all the while I have never heard of him until hos death.

Never mind. I get Val Kilmer and Mickey Rourke mixed up. Both attractive macho types who ruined themselves.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | July 6, 2025 8:03 PM |
His death covered in both the New York Times and on NPR, OP. Do you want them to put his casket in the capitol rotonda?
by Anonymous | reply 13 | July 6, 2025 8:06 PM |
I would say the most important thing about him is that he was married to Cher’s sister.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | July 6, 2025 8:06 PM |
It’s because he just never had that star quality. He never learned to roll with the punches. And believe me, in this business they come left, right, and below the belt.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | July 6, 2025 8:12 PM |
I would also say that it takes a certain kind of talent to be in 330 movies nobody ever heard of.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | July 6, 2025 8:14 PM |
It was covered on Canadian news.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | July 6, 2025 8:16 PM |
When I heard he died, my first thought was "Again?!!". Turns out I was thinking about Tom Sizemore. In my mind, they are essentially the same person so it makes sense they both died.

Whooio?
by Anonymous | reply 19 | July 6, 2025 8:59 PM |
Madsen was not a household name and 98% of the public couldn’t even name a film he was in if the last time they saw him in something.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | July 6, 2025 9:03 PM |
He was a child of God.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | July 6, 2025 9:13 PM |
At least 21 people thought enough of him to comment.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | July 6, 2025 9:14 PM |
He seemed to spend most of his life looking like he was knocking at death's door. So, his death announcement wasn't that surprising.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | July 6, 2025 9:17 PM |
I had a mass said for him today. Tomorrow, I will plant a tree in his honor.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | July 6, 2025 9:20 PM |
Virginia Madsen’s brother?
