Would you risk everything to stand and fight for your country and its people?
Many of us worry how far the US authoritarian regime will go down the road in persecuting its scapegoated targets and punishing its opponents, especially now, with the immense funding just approved for ICE and building detention camps around the nation and Trump's demonstrated willingness to call in Federal troops for citizen protests.
We wonder why and are dismayed that our Congressional reps, especially the Republicans, are not living up to their oaths to defend the Constitution and call them cowards. (Of course, we see that many elected officials are happily complicit with the administration's corruption and cruelty -- those are not the people I am referring to here.) Theoretically, If anyone should have the heart of a patriot and be willing to put it all on the line, it should be someone elected and paid to represent us in government, right? (I am not as naive as this comment might lead you to believe, and please stop laughing.)
Many have speculated that Congressional reps and senators may have been blackmailed or threatened with serious consequences to not fight back or step out of line. Seeing how this regime has operated this year, even toward Democrats in Congress and governors, does anyone doubt the possibility of this happening?
It's one thing to risk your own life to do what's right, but what happens when your sticking your neck out might also harm your loved ones, or at least affect their future? And knowing that doing so--making great sacrifices--still might not change the outcome. Self-preservation and protection of family are natural instincts.
Considering all that, what would be your choice, if you were an elected official?

Wrong link above. This is the one I intended for the OP.

Clearly a worry almost exclusive to Democrats. The vast majority of ignorant, mean-spirited Trump supporters are collectively happy as a pig in shit to see the Constitution trampled upon by a angry, vengeful Trump bent if robbing and destroying.

It was always going to end this way, OP.

R3 Does that mean you think it's best to accept the inevitable?
And by "end", do you think we can recover what is being destroyed?

As being a US. senator or representative it's big worry of all but an infinitesimal number of people, shouldn't the question be something like:
"Would you risk everything to remain in the U.S. to stand and fight for your country and its people? Or would you make preparations to leave the US shitshow?"
Not everyone has leaving as an option, I'm aware, but for those who do, what are you waiting for?

the ending of American democracy is an acceptable option if it means a black can never be POTUS again

Except Dems lost the Senate as well in 2024 and the party starting losing non white voters.
Over 81,000,000 chose Kamala as the first ever female VP in 2020. No white or Latina woman has won in that role.
Democrats have to stop relying on lazy excuses.

If I stand to lose everything, yes. I’m on SS, VA, HUD. I was planning to live in my car if I have to, but I just bought an older Mercedes coupe. It was only a little more than what I paid for a VW 12 years ago.

Why weren't you worried when Democrats were acting authoritarian the past four years, enforcing CRT to re-educate people or else, DEI to discriminate against men/whites, passing laws to limit free speech, and canceling/ostracizing people for not going along with woke/trans ideology.
Trump getting rid of all that so that no one has special privileges, plus securing our borders and being tough on crime is not being authoritarian. Its called watching out for the American people, which Democrats were not doing, because they were more concerned with foreign affairs and illegal immigrants. In fact, it's safe to say that modern Democrats (i.e. globalists) don't give a fuck anymore about their fellow Americans.
You liberals don't live in reality and look/sound like fools when you call Trump a dictator and claim that your rights are being taken away.

Actually, he's just another Trumper who somehow thinks his incoherent arguments will sway others. They don't. They just make him look really foolish.

White males being discriminated against in the US is total fuckin bullshit, okay? Bullshit! Let me correct myself - white HETERO males being discriminated against in the US is bullshit! No matter what else was happening - DEI or whatever - it's bullshit!
Period.

It’s all so fucking sad. And scary. And enraging. I’m Canadian and I’m watching it all go down with a daily-sometimes hourly-sense of shock and awe. How did it happen? How could it get this bad?
For all your flaws America, I didn’t see the attack on American democracy ITSELF, coming from within. Not the sheer size and scope anyway. Not at this level of acceleration. It’s mind boggling! And I sure didn’t think it was inevitable like so many are saying.

"So spoiled by democracy" is another of those myths to which Americans subscribe.
The U.S. scored only in 36th place as a democracy. And that was 5 years ago. Things have gone down hill rather substantially of late.

Nazis left their native homelands and found a home AND SAFETY here in the US.
Here's an immigrant tossing a nazi salute on stage behind the presidential seal DURING THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES INDOOR INAUGURAL EVENT.

the "original sin" is an 81 year old moving slower and behaving like an 81 year old.
(An 81 year old who found time and energy to pay respects to a Senator who was assassinated with her husband and family dog last week)
his more virile energetic rival, a mere 3 years younger and the sitting president didn't show up.
the sin of flashing a nazi gang sign on stage is not problematic for prostitutes who read the news from a teleprompter.
