I hate wearing them myself, but I love when a hot coworker is well dressed.

Same as you OP. Before pandemic yes, now just business casual.

Suits were going away even before the pandemic, right?

I had to for one statistician job, a government position where I didn't even have to meet the public.
It annoyed the living shit outta me.
I lasted there about a year -- but the actual research and statistics were a lot of fun. And I learned a lot about government programs for children.

by Anonymous | reply 8 | July 5, 2025 2:53 PM |
I got one when I had my first job during school years at a department store, working Thursday night and Saturday mornings and full days on holidays. My mother and I practically came to blows when she took me to buy it as I hated the one she chose. But I got used to it. Never wore one EVER after that in my years of working.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | July 5, 2025 2:58 PM |
I wear a dress shirt and tie (by choice). I just like the way I look.
I never wear full suits. Just too damn hot and uncomfortable. Plus the dry cleaning bills.

classical musician. so wear sloppy rags to rehearsals. fancy suits to performances

I don’t even own a suit. And never will. Suits and ties are the most uncomfortable things to wear.

What do you wear to funerals, r14? Oh, and are you male?
by Anonymous | reply 15 | July 5, 2025 3:22 PM |
I’m male, and why do you need to wear a suit to a funeral? I don’t see a lot of men wearing suits to funerals anymore. Dress pants, sweater. It’s all I need.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | July 5, 2025 3:27 PM |
Thanks, r16. I'm old, and I have neither been to a funeral nor had a suit that fits in decades. Things have changed, apparently for the better. I have always hated suits, and have a drawerful of ties I haven't worn in at least 25 years. Again, thanks.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | July 5, 2025 3:30 PM |
I only wore a suit to work from 1995 until 2002. I worked at a Wall Street law firm. During the summer there we were allowed to dress down a little on Fridays.
Then I left and went to work at a commercial bank. They established permanent business casual in 2002. I retired last year.

What really sucks is the air conditioning in offices is still set to make a man in a suit feel comfortable.
Yet no one is in a suit and there are many women in the office. It’s fucking freezing
by Anonymous | reply 22 | July 5, 2025 3:50 PM |
How have you gotten through life without owning a suit? Do you rent a suit for special occasions?
by Anonymous | reply 23 | July 5, 2025 4:16 PM |
Somehow, I don't think the suit that OP would wear to work is, umm, [italic]suitable[/italic] for special occasions.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | July 5, 2025 4:19 PM |
I work from home. They’re lucky I wear pants.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | July 5, 2025 4:35 PM |
I'm long retired but I wore a suit every day at work for 33 years at the same company. We had such a strict dress code that we provided a clothing allowance for lower level employees so they could meet the guidelines. I donated a few suits over the years to various charities and had some of them reworked by a tailor when their style went out of fashion. Over all my years working I ended up with a large number of expensive suits, dress shirts & ties. When I retired I eventually tired of looking at all those suits just hanging in closets and decided to donate many of them to Goodwill. I selected 12 suits and 15 white dress shirts and a slew of expensive ties. I called Goodwill and told them what I had to donate and asked them if they had anyone who could come and get them as the haul was just too much for me to deal with. They did send a man over and he couldn't believe what he was picking up. Most of the garments came from Brooks Brothers and were not cheap. Goodwill got a treasure trove of high end suits and I ended up with a nice tax write off.
Now I've got 3 very nice suits that I rarely need to wear. I try to stick with sports coats and nice slacks. I don't think I've put any of the suits on in the last few years other than for funerals.
How have you gotten through life without owning a suit? Do you rent a suit for special occasions?
I own 4 suits, but never want to wear them again. Even for the last funeral I attended, I wore dark slacks and a sweater. My niece is getting married soon so I’ll likely have to pull out a suit from the closet

With the right body, the right cut, the right materials and colors, a suit can look so great in a guy.
I absolutely hate wearing them, insanely uncomfortable, from the collar and tie down to the footwear. Last one was at my sisters wedding two decades ago

That's one thing I don't miss about working in an office - the neverending complaints from fraus that it was too cold or too hot. Mostly too cold, and it just never ever fucking stopped, ever. Every single day.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | July 5, 2025 8:57 PM |
I mostly wear polos and jeans or chinos (or a couple of jean-cut dressier pants that are starting to fade away). I keep a sport coat in the office in case I get pulled into meetings with senior execs.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | July 5, 2025 9:06 PM |

by Anonymous | reply 41 | July 5, 2025 9:34 PM |
A few years ago a cousin of mine got married in an outdoor wedding in July and of course I had to wear a suit and tie. It was blazing hot and I was roasting alive in the sun in that damn suit.
If you have a wedding in the dead heat of summer, FFS don't have it outside!

by Anonymous | reply 45 | July 6, 2025 2:59 AM |
I wore a suit and tie to work for over 20 years. I worked for a company that had a very strict dress code (men couldn't have facial hair). I never found them uncomfortable, unless I had put on some weight. I find most people who find suits and ties uncomfortable have ill-fitting clothes, especially shirts.
I just bought one for my son's wedding. All the suits in my closet are out of style and probably don't fit (I need to clean my closet). It's probably the last suit I'll but, because as noted above, no one wears them much anymore. Even funerals (which are also now rare), I wear slacks and a sports jacket.
by Anonymous | reply 46 | July 6, 2025 3:02 AM |
Once on the train there was a man wearing a skin-tight one. He looked so hot I followed him for a while after he got off the train.
by Anonymous | reply 47 | July 6, 2025 6:31 AM |
I don't care for this new style where it looks like the suit is 2 sizes too small. Slacks too tight and short and the jacket far too short. I call it the Pee Wee Herman style. And don't even get me started on men who wear these little baby suits and then wear dress shoes and no damn socks.
by Anonymous | reply 48 | July 6, 2025 1:16 PM |
I'm retired now, but I look better in a suit than casual wear so I gladly wore one.
Plus I have a thing for men in suits. I walked to work and on the way home I often stopped in a local gay bar for a beer. It was heaven, A bar full of men in suits.
by Anonymous | reply 49 | July 6, 2025 1:29 PM |
I wear stilts to work.
by Anonymous | reply 50 | July 6, 2025 1:31 PM |
That’s an interesting photo, R28. Those baggy clothes don’t look uncomfortable. Im wondering how heavy the material was.
If an environment requires men to wear suits, women should be wearing jackets or tailored dresses of substantial material with sleeves. Don’t bitch about the air conditioning if you are wearing a short sleeved knit top or blouse. And since I’ve criticized women, I’m going to criticize men, too. Men should not be wearing sneakers to work and changing into dress shoes. Unless you are riding a bike, in NYC you do not have a commute that should require you to wear sneakers. Buy some decent shoes that fit and stop walking around like a secretary from 1987. It makes you look like you grew up in a cave.
by Anonymous | reply 51 | July 6, 2025 1:37 PM |
I wear a suit almost every day. (On casual days I wear a sport coat, tie, and buttoned collars.)
If your clothes are uncomfortable, you're wearing the wrong clothes. The biggest challenge to having to dress like this for work and related activities is the expense, but once purchased a quality suit will adapt to the details of fashion and last forever. With about 20 suits, a selection of tuxes, two morning suits, and tails I can meet just about any social need. I know not everyone has the same requirements, but some jobs are like this. Why complain because one can't wear pajamas to work?

My late husband wore a suit five days a week for 31 years. He always looked so hot pulling his hard cock out of the fly for a quick blowjob before he left for work. Miss that man, his suits and his cock!
by Anonymous | reply 55 | July 6, 2025 2:06 PM |
r52 My self esteem isn't so fragile that I must relay the # of suits I own. I also didn't see anyone talking about pajamas? I hope you start to feel better.
by Anonymous | reply 56 | July 6, 2025 2:08 PM |
It’s not a new style, the tiny suits. Pleats and other excess fabric went out ages ago. We’ve been in Thom Browne Pee Wee Herman mode for a long time, and the only change is that the shoes keep getting worse.
by Anonymous | reply 57 | July 6, 2025 2:39 PM |
Men should not be wearing sneakers to work and changing into dress shoes. Unless you are riding a bike, in NYC you do not have a commute that should require you to wear sneakers.
If you're walking to work, you might be walking many blocks. Irrespective how comfortable your dress shoes are, it makes no sense to wear them when your walking that far. Good dress shoes are expensive; who wants to wear them down so quickly? I'm not a fan of rubbers (in both senses) and wouldn't wear them, but I wouldn't begrudge someone wearing them to protect their dress shoes, especially in the winter when there's snow and salt on the pavement.
It's entering and leaving work, not a red carpet. It's none of your concern, R51.
by Anonymous | reply 58 | July 6, 2025 3:34 PM |
It’s entering and leaving work when the greatest number of people see you, R58. You should be able to walk miles in decent shoes. And good shoes can be re-soled and acceptable shoes can be purchased pretty reasonably. Besides, how many people who can’t afford shoes still need to wear a dress shoes to work? I’m not sure what you mean about rubbers. Obviously in very inclement weather rubbers or a change of shoes would be appropriate but that happens in NYC max 10x a year? Because wouldn’t you choose to take public transport or a Uber/cab rather than walking many blocks in a storm? A light on and off rain isn’t going to instantly destroy shoes. And it’s sort of the point that you should wear appropriate shoes, but also shoes you can afford. Afford means being able to eventually replace them after normal wear and tear.
It’s not my concern if you wear a bunny costume to work, either, unless you work for me and are client facing. But it still makes you look bad.
It’s entering and leaving work when the greatest number of people see you,
And who are the people that are seeing you? Others that work in your building. Clients and visitors come later. As I said, it's entering and leaving work, not a red carpet.
by Anonymous | reply 60 | July 6, 2025 3:56 PM |
Quality welted leather shoes in a the correct size are plenty comfortable enough to walk around in. They just cost a fortune and everyone skips it.
by Anonymous | reply 61 | July 6, 2025 4:04 PM |
The other people who work in your building? So all your colleagues and the people who confer about your bonus and whether you should be promoted and the people in the other group, the one you’d really like to work in?
It’s not my concern but it should be your concern. Look, it’s a minor thing that probably won’t negatively affect you. But it could and it’s low hanging fruit. If you are a lawyer or banker or something similar and you are doing this, I would encourage you to rethink it. Especially to older partners or execs, it might make you look like a Character from Working Girl.
by Anonymous | reply 62 | July 6, 2025 4:06 PM |
Please, I wear sneakers on the way to work and back. I put my dress shoes on when I walk into my employer's building. Many, many people wear sneakers one the way to work. I can't imagine anyone judging what you wear to walk in when you are minding your own business. I don't recall a single incident in over 35 years when someone commented about the state of one's shoes. I don't recall anyone being passed over for an advancement because of the quality of their shoes.
On the other hand, I've seen more men going commando under their suits. Their cocks sway when they are walking; I appreciate the sight. They know you are looking, too. Once, a guy in our office got a pube stuck in his zipper, and it required a couple of us to unsnag the zipper for him. He winced in pain with every attempt. When the zipper finally worked again, I saw he had a massive bush. I wanted to pull out his cock, but the guy was straight. I also valued my job...
by Anonymous | reply 63 | July 6, 2025 4:26 PM |
R62 - Those older partners and execs you speak of are long dead. Boomers and Gen X don't care. The current older partners and execs seeing someone that walks or bikes to work see them as someone concerned with their health, saving them money on the health care the company provides. Working Girl came out 37 years ago, more than a generation. How the fuck old are you? You also mentioned it's okay if you bike to work. How does someone else working in your building discern whether they walked or biked? Does walking in with a helmet make you look more professional?

Mother always said "sneakers are for the common people. You don't want to look like riffraff upon entering the office." As the doctor administered the weekly enema.
by Anonymous | reply 65 | July 6, 2025 7:02 PM |
My problem with traditional men's suits is that so many of them are just SO boring - the fabrics on regular suits (not the super expensive ones), the cut, the buttons - just boring as fuck.
Yes men can look great in suits - but so many suits I see really don't do men any favors.
Shit like this link here. I actually think men look better with a sport coat, unbuttoned shirt and more casual pants.
