I remember that commercial playing well into the 80s, OP.
As a preteen, I was sold.
My mother was a great cook and lived in the kitchen. She also didn't like anything fun or new, so I could not talk her into buying it.

There was a version of this ad with the line “slice meat so thin your in-laws will never come back”. As a kid I didn’t understand what that meant. Actually I still don’t understand what that meant.
