I just heard a song about him. I get that he was a DJ with a gravely voice, but what else? Why was such a person a sensation back in the day?
Eldergays, tell me about Wolfman Jack.

He was the great host of The Midnight Special, which I subscribe to on Youtube. I have very fond memories of staying up to watch with my Dad.

Clap for the Wolfman OP?

My parents wouldn't let me listen to him because he's a Negro.

Are you Julie Eisenhower, r3?

I was very young - but I remember him being a big celebrity in the mid to late 70s. And then he just disappeared.
He wasn't black though.

I read somewhere he was a devout Episcopalian

Did You Boogie (With Your Baby) - Another record he was featured on in 1976.

I saw him once, walking a tiny dog & wearing a caftan, near his home.
He glared at me I drove by, gave a sinister vibe.
He was also very fat, as in morbidly obese.

I remember thinking when he was the host of The Midnight Special that he had no clue as to who the artists he was introducing actually were.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | July 5, 2025 1:45 AM |
r3 No, he wasn't.

[quote]Are you Julie Eisenhower, [R3]?
I think it's Amber Von Tussle

From a friend who worked for him: A coked-up nutcase.

He was okay back in the day. Hardly a “sensation,” OP.

Big sensation back in the day

He was a big star in the mid to late 70s for sure.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | July 5, 2025 2:43 AM |
Yes, R2, that's it.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | July 5, 2025 2:48 AM |
Maybe I'm wrong but he seemed to have a revival after his appearance in American Graffiti.

OP watch American graffiti. He was part of the heartbeat of American youth in the 1960s. Of course that’s a factionalized version.
R18, he came to New York and worked here the year AG came out. Those two facts gave him a bump for a while.

^^^fictionalized

Are you sure that wasn't just Joel's neighbor, R9?
by Anonymous | reply 21 | July 5, 2025 2:53 AM |
thanks for clarification r19

Was he on TV all the time or was he mostly known for radio?
by Anonymous | reply 23 | July 5, 2025 2:40 PM |
Was he the guy that hosted “creature feature” with the flying brains and spinal cords that were attacking people
by Anonymous | reply 24 | July 5, 2025 3:56 PM |
My now dead mother told a story of how everyone thought he was black because of his deep, gravely voice. And then she proceeded to make racist jokes about our neighbors. Oh, she was a peach.

Here's the song I heard. (R2 was right!)
Kind of a stupid and unserious song and I can't imagine any group of people looking more like 70s stereotypes than these guys lol.
