What's everyone doing today?

I'm staying in and lounging. Might watch Sinners later. Not feeling particularly patriotic this year and no one I know is doing anything.

by Anonymousreply 52July 5, 2025 11:01 AM

I'm watching "Independence Day" on this Independence Day.

I wish real aliens would come and blow us all up and end this farce.

by Anonymousreply 1July 4, 2025 7:12 PM

I spent most of the afternoon working to get rid of my farmer’s tan. My face, neck, forearms and calves are a nice golden tan but my torso and thighs are milky white.

My friend and his dog are coming over so the dogs can have a playdate. I’m weirdly excited for my dog but a little nervous. He’s good with other dogs and loves his dog cousins but we’ve never had another dog come visit at our house. I hope it goes well.

by Anonymousreply 2July 4, 2025 7:43 PM

I just watched Hamilton on Hulu.

Surprised myself by absolutely loving it!

by Anonymousreply 3July 4, 2025 7:46 PM

My mom just moved into independent living, but with a broken arm. My cousin and I are providing a holiday dinner for the three of us at my mom's place featuring chicken tenders, potato salad ... and Selena Gomez oreos!

by Anonymousreply 5July 4, 2025 7:55 PM

Eating too much, napping, watching Wimbledon.

Going to a tasteful party at the home of a local homosexual.

by Anonymousreply 7July 4, 2025 7:57 PM

There's a Twilight Zone marathon on the OTA Heroes and Icons channel.

Combine that with looking online for a motorcycle just like the one I have now, but newer. I got some bad news the other day about why it's not running right, although I'm grateful that someone finally was able to diagnose the problem (nobody knows how to work on Triumphs!), but it will be $2200 to fix it, and I'm not sure that getting a newer model might not be a better option.

I also did a bit of lopping and weed-wacking earlier in the day. My lawn work is never done!

Orgy down at the Mertz's apartment.

by Anonymousreply 10July 4, 2025 8:08 PM

Started watching Independence Day — which I loved as a kid — but somehow forgot Will Smith is the lead. Just can’t watch him anymore.

by Anonymousreply 11July 4, 2025 8:17 PM

I’m flying to Seattle.

Six Flags Over My House (i.e., nowhere)

Though some yard work this morning before it got too hot.

by Anonymousreply 17July 4, 2025 8:56 PM

Hate watching ‘And just like that’ with a chilled pinot noir from New Zealand.

by Anonymousreply 18July 4, 2025 9:33 PM

Thinking that given the current situation with our own mad king we might have been better off sticking with England.

by Anonymousreply 19July 4, 2025 9:45 PM

I’m in Europe watching fireworks honoring the USA on the 4th. Where I am, they celebrate every year: a naval assault that helped liberate their nation from Nazism. We speak not of Dumpf—they empathize, endlessly.

by Anonymousreply 20July 4, 2025 9:57 PM

R9 meaningless without known how many sq feet were covered.

On the front porch with my dog and cocktails.

Watching Bel Biv DeVo

by Anonymousreply 23July 4, 2025 11:18 PM

Waiting in perfumed splendor for the fireworks to begin.

r11 Get over it. God.

by Anonymousreply 25July 4, 2025 11:31 PM

I was going to watch Born On The Fourth Of July, but that movie is too depressing.

I'm staying in since it's 101° outside. Already had a burger.

by Anonymousreply 26July 4, 2025 11:34 PM

Wishing my American counterparts on DL a

HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY

We love you and have every confidence you can weather this, and come back better than before.

by Anonymousreply 27July 4, 2025 11:38 PM

Pretended to do some work this morning but really was finalizing travel plans. Made a Nicoise for dinner and now my husband is rubbing my feet while we drink wine. It’s been rainy all day and lately the vibes have been rancid, so super mellow is what we’re going for. Maybe the rain keeps a lid on the fireworks.

by Anonymousreply 28July 4, 2025 11:38 PM

I spent the last few days at my parents' cabin with them, my siblings and their gaggle of kids.

I went home today because it is just too darn hot, spending more than three days with my family might induce a mental break, and I am pretty sure one of my nieces has some kind of toxic stomach bug. When she put her hand in the bag of chips right after announcing to everyone that she just took a dump, I knew it was perhaps time to leave.

Earlier today we played lawn games at the home of the fat couple - Marlene and Darryl - who live two doors down along with their adult chidren and seemingly 20 grandchildren. One of the lawn games involved two toilet bowls set out directly across from each other in the front yard with the goal of seeing which team could successfully toss plastic figurines of various presidents into the toilet bowls. I told Marlene that I only wanted to toss the Trump figurine into the toilet. She said that wasn't possible because the Trump figurine is standing on the mantle inside. I did compliment her husband Darryl on reducing the size of his gut. It is now simply massive rather than absolutely enormous (thanks to Ozempic). I only said this because he insists on being shirtless all the time.

by Anonymousreply 29July 4, 2025 11:38 PM

Best laugh of the day r29.

by Anonymousreply 30July 4, 2025 11:46 PM

Bought new pants and a denim skirt. Hoping everyone's pets get through the fireworks noise without too much panic.

by Anonymousreply 31July 4, 2025 11:57 PM

We had a beach day and a nice cookout. Fuck Trump. He doesn’t get to co-opt our holiday.

by Anonymousreply 32July 4, 2025 11:58 PM

Just got home from spending the afternoon in Central Park with a friend, now relaxing and watching two different Twilight Zone marathons on H&I and Syfy, respectively.

by Anonymousreply 33July 5, 2025 12:07 AM

It's my ex-FIL's 91st birthday so we all flew out to Lake Forest yesterday to celebrate.

Right now, we're all watching "Yankee Doodle Dandy" on DVD before the Fireworks-Lake Michigan water temp was 70 degrees-it was brisk, I liked it.

Wrapping up a long day of drinking at a pool party with Love Island USA in bed

by Anonymousreply 36July 5, 2025 1:39 AM

Reminiscing about the old times in the USA and realizing I’ve never been more ashamed of this country than I am on this very day.

by Anonymousreply 37July 5, 2025 1:41 AM

What's to celebrate? This country is OVER!

by Anonymousreply 38July 5, 2025 1:49 AM

My ex-FIL& MIL, ex-wife& her married partner and my son RL(Richie Lucca) are all members of the Onwentsia Club. Plus, about 20 other members of my ex-in-laws family. My wedding rehearsal dinner party was held there. I was never asked to join the club. The party was held at my son's home Lake Michigan in LF.

by Anonymousreply 39July 5, 2025 1:50 AM

Damn, R33 -- you're hard core!

I can only watch one Twilight Zone marathon at a time.

Just saw one of the Shatner episodes. It's incredible to think that man is still alive!

by Anonymousreply 40July 5, 2025 2:01 AM

Now, the Robert Redford episode. He was actually prettier than Spader, back in the day.

by Anonymousreply 41July 5, 2025 2:14 AM

Trying to keep my already anxious, recently adopted shelter dog from freaking out over the firecrackers.

by Anonymousreply 42July 5, 2025 2:27 AM

SL/R40, I may be hardcore but it’s tough on my remote! Especially when two of my favorite episodes are on at the same time and I can’t decide between them. (Oddly, this morning they both aired one of my all-time favorites, “On Thursday We Leave for Home,” simultaneously at 9am.)

And I agree, Redford was all kinds of beautiful back then.

by Anonymousreply 43July 5, 2025 2:27 AM

No one I know was celebrating today, certainly not like in years past.

I stayed in tonight (I always have since getting my first dog 25 years ago) so my dog won't be afraid of the fireworks in the neighborhood. Watched 'Yankee Doodle Dandy' on TCM, and enjoyed it more than I ever thought I would. Cagney was superb.

by Anonymousreply 44July 5, 2025 2:28 AM

OP I’m doing the same thing as you. I set up Sinners to record. I worked in the yard earlier.

by Anonymousreply 45July 5, 2025 2:59 AM

The feisty little terrier we had growing up went nuts over any loud bangs like fireworks and thunder. Wanted to challenge it as opposed to some larger dogs we had who hid under beds and cried.

I hate the idea of getting anyone stoned without their consent, and no animal can consent, but my older stoner brother blew weed smoke into his face and it worked. Dog wasn't completely calm but he stopped trying the door and reacted much as we did.

by Anonymousreply 46July 5, 2025 3:32 AM

I slapped the first face I saw as hard as I could

by Anonymousreply 47July 5, 2025 3:45 AM

My miss Molly is completely nonreactive to fireworks and thunderstorms. Couldn't care less, doesn't even open an eye or flinch. love it but still can't relax because I am SO accustomed to dogs who freak.

by Anonymousreply 48July 5, 2025 3:54 AM

Like others, I just did yard work before it got too hot & worked on developing a new skill I might need if my job gets cut. I live in MAGA territory & while you'd think they'd be jubilant, it's pretty quiet around here. You don't see as many of the numpties with the American flags flying out of the back of their vehicles, the usual sign of how Extra Patriotic they are

by Anonymousreply 49July 5, 2025 9:48 AM

Pointedly NOT celebrating or acknowledging this shit show of a country and its diaper-wearing GOON of a president.

by Anonymousreply 50July 5, 2025 10:34 AM

Well that’s not very American. Otter of Delta Tau Chi showed us how it is done!

I’m going to TJ Maxx and Marshall’s.

I’ll celebrate the opportunity to buy cheap Chinese clothing at pre-tariff prices.
