Who’s in the mood for the 4th of July this year?

Not I.

I’d rather we had a 14th of July celebration just like the one in 1789.

by Anonymousreply 39July 4, 2025 11:39 PM

Same.

by Anonymousreply 1July 4, 2025 12:12 AM

Ditto

by Anonymousreply 2July 4, 2025 12:31 AM

I'll get my knitting basket.

by Anonymousreply 3July 4, 2025 12:35 AM

Not "me."

by Anonymousreply 4July 4, 2025 12:36 AM

What's to celebrate this year? People will say, "But it's a celebration of our past." Sorry, but celebrating the country's glory days only reminds me how bleak the present is.

by Anonymousreply 5July 4, 2025 12:40 AM

Drinking our sorrows away. What a shit country full of fucking idiots.

by Anonymousreply 6July 4, 2025 12:46 AM

STICK YOUR SPARKLERS AND YANKEE DOODLE DANDY UP YOUR ASSES!

by Anonymousreply 7July 4, 2025 12:50 AM

It’s a day off and the weather is supposed to be perfect. I will take it.

by Anonymousreply 8July 4, 2025 12:58 AM

Aux armes, citoyens!

by Anonymousreply 9July 4, 2025 1:12 AM

R4, not I. Because “I” am not feeling it.

by Anonymousreply 10July 4, 2025 1:29 AM

Going to a friend’s roof deck , but I’m leaving before the fireworks

by Anonymousreply 11July 4, 2025 1:30 AM

I look fabulous. My 401(k) is doing very well. And aren’t these the only things that are important?

by Anonymousreply 12July 4, 2025 1:38 AM

My Fat Daughter is thrilled because she doesn’t have to “work” tomorrow.

If someone can tell me what “work” my fat daughter does, besides tweeting nonsense and shoveling transfats down her gullet, I would be appreciative.

This is the first time that I have noticed that George Washington has the same hairline as My Fat Daughter.

Every year I watch 1776, and feel at least a little spark of hope and gratitude and pleasure for what is good about this country, even with all its problems, yes even the ones all the way back then. It's one of the few little rituals I still give myself.

Tomorrow, meh, I'll watch it, but I seriously wonder if I'll feel much of anything other than, why did they fucking bother? Oh, well, I'll see I guess.

by Anonymousreply 14July 4, 2025 1:47 AM

I love you, Ambassadress!

by Anonymousreply 15July 4, 2025 1:54 AM

Agree. Trump has kinda ruined everything.

by Anonymousreply 16July 4, 2025 2:02 AM

Kinda, R16? Everything he touches turns to shit, even July 4.

by Anonymousreply 17July 4, 2025 2:08 AM

I'm worried about my pup. He did very well with fireworks up until last year. (he turned 6 on May 27). No issues. He turned into a trembling mess last year. So, I'll be home being vigilant again.

by Anonymousreply 18July 4, 2025 2:14 AM

OP seems to lack an understanding of the French Revolution.

Let's try to avoid [italic]that[/italic] and look more toward electing rational non-fascists to office.

by Anonymousreply 19July 4, 2025 2:15 AM

Good luck, R18.

My dog lost it one day from the noise and never recovered. Had to have Animal Control come to take her away after three days. It was horrible.

by Anonymousreply 20July 4, 2025 2:19 AM

Very grim July 4th.

by Anonymousreply 21July 4, 2025 2:22 AM
Had to have Animal Control come to take her away after three days. It was horrible.

What the fuck, R20?

by Anonymousreply 22July 4, 2025 2:23 AM

Ugh, we have high winds and red flag warnings until tomorrow night. Morons shooting off fireworks in a dry climate-what could possibly go wrong?

by Anonymousreply 23July 4, 2025 2:23 AM

R20, I've never heard of dog trauma from fireworks that permanently fucks up any dog.

by Anonymousreply 24July 4, 2025 2:54 AM

r18 Thundershirt might help, no? Or frequent hugs and canine-human mind melds.

by Anonymousreply 25July 4, 2025 2:55 AM

One block east of my apartment is a high rise with balconies and on the opposite end of my block is a youth hostel. One of those is already shooting off fireworks but it's hard to tell which direction they're coming from. That'll start around 1 am tonight and it'll be worse tomorrow night.

by Anonymousreply 26July 4, 2025 4:11 AM

Sadly the movie to watch this year isn’t 1776, it’s 2001.

by Anonymousreply 27July 4, 2025 4:36 AM

My son is an Anglophile and a gadfly - when he was 10, he insisted on wearing a Union Jack tee in our neighborhood parade.

by Anonymousreply 28July 4, 2025 4:44 AM

R18

Buy 3rd of July supplements and start them ASAP.

by Anonymousreply 29July 4, 2025 4:44 AM

R20

You gave your dog three whole days, the traumatized her further? No vet visit, no calming supplements?

You’re gross.

by Anonymousreply 30July 4, 2025 4:46 AM

R20 just gave his dog away. Yeah, gross is the word. Cunt is another word.

by Anonymousreply 31July 4, 2025 5:38 AM

How is that rebellion working for you now.

by Anonymousreply 32July 4, 2025 6:14 AM

I finally managed to get up off the couch and went to bed. Now I can’t quite get up off the bed. No Bauer BBQ this year.

by Anonymousreply 33July 4, 2025 6:15 AM

It's a day of mourning for me.

by Anonymousreply 34July 4, 2025 6:16 AM

R18 here. Thank you for the suggestions. I have some CBD calming "treats" that I used a few months ago when I had old gutters and drain spouts torn out and replaced. He did well. I didn't realize there's fireworks specific stuff. I'll head over Petco tomorrow . They have some in stock.

Unfortunately I can't deal with a thunder shirt. I have a crocked elbow (going in for surgery on Tuesday), so it's going to be lots of left-sided hugs.

by Anonymousreply 35July 4, 2025 7:22 AM
I've never heard of dog trauma from fireworks that permanently fucks up any dog.

Agree. Almost sounds like a Kristi Noem solution.

by Anonymousreply 36July 4, 2025 7:25 AM
R20 just gave his dog away. Yeah, gross is the word.

Well, yes, but only after having been inconvenienced by the dog for three whole days.

by Anonymousreply 37July 4, 2025 7:55 AM

I assumed r20 was joking...

by Anonymousreply 38July 4, 2025 8:15 AM

Happy 4th to all of us, from r18.

My babester got calming hemp and we're ready!
