Angela looks nervous and Elizabeth looks like she's sleeping with her eyes open.
Angie was obsessed with memory. She talked a lot about how things don't last and end up just being a memory.

Angela was always a class act. It’s funny how she would sometimes use her more American accent and other times sound beyond British. I miss her.

Is this that weird celebration of Elizabeth Taylor that was held for no reason? I recall an old DL thread on this topic.
Liz looks great but also pilled the fuck out?
Love and miss Angela Lansbury as well, R2.

She looked like a sassy little doll in Gaslight!

R2 She also sounded a bit Irish too. The pronounciation of her "Rs" is Irish.

Elizabeth in glam mode. Yowee!

R5, she lived in Ireland for 50 years. Her mother was Irish. She had Irish citizenship. She got her kids away from drugs and Charles Manson (who was using her credit cards) by taking them there away from LA. I believe she had a house later in California but when she wasn’t working she lived in Ireland. Her Irish home was featured in many magazines. It was exactly how you’d picture it, non-ostentatious and practical.

Liz looks drugged out of her mind.
I loved how Angela would never trash anyone but you could tell who she didn’t get on with. She said that Bette Davis shared a small dressing room with her when they did Death on the Nile and that’s all she would say.

Sure, Jan. She paid tribute to Bette.

Angie when she was just a wee girl. Isn't she adorable? :-)

Liz is 61 yrs old in that clip.
It is amazing how she was able to slim down, pull herself together and get beautiful again after her fat and bloated years.

Angela, dare I say it, is kind of a hero of mine. Just a great all-around performer, very smart and articulate, emotionally intelligent, and a total PRO. Man, what a pro. In every respect.

Angela revered Bette, despite Bette's moods.
Maureen Stapleton wanted to fight Bette because she was so nasty to Angela and her when they did the Gloria Vanderbilt miniseries. Angela had to intervene and told Maureen to just let it go because that was the way Bette was.

R13 That explains Angela's love for Bea Arthur too.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | July 6, 2025 5:51 PM |
I don't find Elizabeth zonked out at that tribute at all. She is very still because she's sincerely listening to what Angie has to say. I'm sure it's hard for even the most ego-maniacal star to have to sit and listen for 2 -3 hours as colleagues you haven't seen in decades go on about you, especially when you don't know exactly what they'll say. Bette had the same rapt attention listening to Angela. All those flooding memories...

Angela admitted to having gallows humor, so I don’t think much got under her skin. She reportedly walked in on some young twink tied up in Stephen Sondheim’s bedroom and quickly shut the door. She also frequented gay bars and clubs even taking the cast of Mame to watch Charles Pierce. She stood on her chair to clap. The more you learn about her the more it becomes obvious as to why she got along with Bea.

What are the chances Angela saw Pink Flamingoes? lol

R16 Oh the crazy and naughty things she and Bea must have done. I wish they had filmed some of it and it was released for our own pleasure and entertainment.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | July 6, 2025 8:44 PM |
Bea was a drunk. I’m sure Angela witnessed it.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | July 6, 2025 8:50 PM |
I remember when Bea died, Angela saying that she was sad, but relieved because it meant "Bea was out of pain." That moved me deeply.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | July 6, 2025 8:55 PM |
Angela's husband, Peter Shaw, must have been Bea's twin sister with short hair.

Is Murder She Wrote any good? Does it go downhill after a few seasons? It did last for 12 seasons.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | July 9, 2025 4:58 PM |
Elizabeth Taylor could be exhausting. You never knew after a certain point if she was hurt or was using pain as an excuse to take meds. I have a bio published in 1994 that lists all of the medications prescribed to her when she entered the Betty Ford Center and it’s quite a long list of narcotics.
She claims she broke her foot getting ready for this tribute. She said she just did her best to smile and say to herself, “I can get through this!”
The kids call it “being extra” and she definitely was.

Murder, She Wrote is great R22. Do a search. The show has been talked about a lot here.
Just be sure and read the episode descriptions. The schedule was grueling and a few seasons in they started doing “bookend” episodes. Angela would usually appear in the begging to introduce a mystery and at the end to close out the episode, but she doesn’t appear in the actual story. This gave her some days off, but it also caused the ratings to slip.

It's light r22. And the guest cast has many old familiar faces.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | July 9, 2025 6:18 PM |
What kind of a tribute is it? Did she get the AFI Life Achievement award?
by Anonymous | reply 26 | July 9, 2025 6:27 PM |
I love the old stars and many of them were on Murder, She Wrote, yet I never watched it (I saw an episode and it didn't appeal to me). Mendocino doesn't really look like anywhere in Maine. Why didn't they just set it in Northern California?

"Elizabeth Taylor becomes the twenty-first recipient of The American Film Institute's Life Achievement Award hosted by Carol Burnett and featuring appearances by Michael Caine, Angela Lansbury, Roddy McDowall, Michael York and George Stevens, Jr."
