His ungodly beauty and sex appeal needs to be remembered. I just saw this youtube short of him in Endless Lovewhen he was 20...how the fuck was he so fuckable and hot even at that age? He wasn't just cute, he was sexy, and he knew it
He really was perfection. Just beautiful.

I worked on an episode of The Blacklist and it was clear the majority of people working on the show loathed him. When it was announced that he was on his way to the set there were plenty of groans and eye rolls. And, yes, he was a jerk. I got to observe him for a few hours and he had this superior, know it all attitude that was off-putting. And he's ugly as sin now. But, yes, he was cute in his youth.

He's a bit of a diva like most genius's R2
And at least he still has his sexy voice.

Stable genius at R3.

Back in the day, he was so pretty even I thought he was hot.
If you want to see him at his best, watch Sex, Lies, and Videotape.

I was in his class with Uta Hagen. This was before he was well known. Back then I never thought of him as being so gorgeous. He sure didn't age well.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | July 3, 2025 2:45 AM |
R5 his hair length in that movie bothers me a little I dont think he was ever sexier than in PiP. Steff is in my top 3 sexiest male performers of all tie. And this in a John Hughes teen flick.

So he wasn’t acting as Steff in Pretty in Pink?

dweeby and gorgeous in Stargate

Saw him in Streetcar when he was young, playing the small part of the young man in the play. I think it was in Somerville. (Mass.)
by Anonymous | reply 13 | July 3, 2025 3:20 AM |
I used to have a boss that looked exactly like him.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | July 3, 2025 3:35 AM |
Not my type. Too mayonnaise and white bread. But he is talented. He's the bright spot in several shitty movies. Almost always believeable.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | July 3, 2025 3:45 AM |
R14 yeah I think they went to the same school and were friends. Both fist bitingly adorable there
by Anonymous | reply 17 | July 3, 2025 3:49 AM |
Did he like black guys? I mean, with that last name of his.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | July 3, 2025 3:50 AM |
He's very plain. In the '80s they did his hair well to make him look sexier, but his looks are nothing special, though he has good eyes.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | July 3, 2025 3:51 AM |
R16 it's funny because I dont like pretty boys at all. I like virile, handsome guys with strong features. Almost without exception. Spader is the one huge exception. That said, its more about his sexiness than his looks.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | July 3, 2025 3:51 AM |
R19 gmafb. If it took nice hair to make someone hot there would be 50 times as many hot dudes.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | July 3, 2025 3:52 AM |
Probably looked his best on the Jack's Back poster
by Anonymous | reply 22 | July 3, 2025 3:53 AM |
R21 I didn't say his hairstyle made him hot, did I? I meant the hairstyle made him look more attractive (hairstyles can do that).
by Anonymous | reply 23 | July 3, 2025 3:57 AM |
R20, like i said, I appreciate his talent and his name attached warrants a try, even obvious crap. He could do the confident menacing wasp type better than so many others. And I thought he was exceptional in Sex Lies Videotape.
One time I found him sexy was in an awful movie called Jack's Back. I was in Cancun Mexico in 1989 or 90, in the Radisson on that hotel strip, stuck in my room with tourista and a terrible sunburn. That movie played on the tv three times a day and I saw it five times. He cured me.

No man in Hollywood "hit the wall" harder than he did. It was shocking.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | July 3, 2025 1:28 PM |
R26 hit a wall in what sense? Career wise he's done incredibly well, though he is sorely lacking at least an oscar nod.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | July 3, 2025 2:01 PM |
If he went to “high school” with JFK Jr., it was Phillips Andover prep school, because that’s where JFK Jr. went.
Curiously, Spader was the son of one of my English teachers at a nearby prep school, Brooks, where I went from ‘64 to ‘68. Back then he was known as Jimmy Spader, and wore coke bottle glasses. Last time I saw him, he was about 5 years old.
Who knew?
by Anonymous | reply 28 | July 3, 2025 2:49 PM |
I believe Spader went to that prep school because his parents taught there. He has said he was very middle class in reality but he was able to attend very elite schools because of his parents. I guess that is why he has the very posh New England accent we know and love.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | July 3, 2025 2:59 PM |
In every interaction I've had with him, he's been the most conceited, arrogant, off-putting person in the room. My mother would have referred to him as Mr. Know-It-All.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | July 3, 2025 3:02 PM |
Have never found him remotely attractive. Sour, extremely punchable face.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | July 3, 2025 3:03 PM |
Spader's Steff from PiP is so iconic. I once read online a paper on him that sumed it up so well:
"In the 1986 teen mov8ie, Pretty in Pink, Andie is pursued by 3 high school boys: Blaine, Duckie and Steff. It is Steff who is simultaneously the most threatening and the most thrilling of her suitors. Played by James Spader in all his blond glory, Steff stalks the high school like a sexy grown up beast. Resplendent in t-shirts and suit jackets, Spader's steff looks more like a brooding adult male than the smooth faced teen he is supposed to be. In comparison to Mcarthey's bland Blane and Cryer's spunky duckie, Steff is clearly a threatening presence: angry, smoking and VERY ready for sex. The character of Steff was clearly written to bethe boy teen girls to love to hate, but the role is given more edge by Spader's all-american beauty and the undercurrent of perversion that beauty ultimately brings. His good looks are unsettling, as is his palpable horniness, read as disturbing by Ringwald's Andie, is for adult viewers watching the film now, exhilirating. His performance is a tiny patch of sexual brightness in an otherwise sexually safe film"
Couldn't have said it better myself. Its almost like the character does not fit in in the Hughes film. He's like a doubdle blgianchocolate plate on a wholesome healthy fruit platter.

He's a talented actor who belies the nepo baby curse. There's no sin in aging--the alternative being death. But he looks as if he's eaten the entire Thanksgiving dinner and drunk up the liquor cabinet to boot. Obviously he has demons.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | July 3, 2025 3:49 PM |
Dear god, you people exagerate, he doesnt look that bad. He grew bald, that's it. I still think he was pretty sexy in The Black List.
Another movie he is stunning in is White Palace with Susasn Sarandon, but my god is that the ultimate "female gaze" film. There is no way no how, that on any planet I could evision Spader's yuppie, prude character that had a dozen beautiful women at his feet be interested in a mid 40s boozy sloppy broad....no how. So Spader's character ( Max I think?) is pretty much just eye candy there for all the middle aged women the movie is supposed to be for.
Also the first sex scene is kind of gross and seems rapey-ish, on her part. It did not sit right with me.

That’s bad. Very bad.

R31 are you even going to explain how you are supposed to know him?
by Anonymous | reply 38 | July 3, 2025 9:55 PM |
R38=As a waiter in one of his favorite restaurants. Once his fat ass is down, it's not getting up.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | July 3, 2025 10:24 PM |
So you're still a waiter? Or you were one?
What was his favorite dish?
by Anonymous | reply 40 | July 3, 2025 10:28 PM |
How much of Spader's annoying behavior and perceived arrogance might be attributed to his obsessive compulsive disorder? Reading about his challenges, I think it would be difficult to live or work with him or even be him.
by Anonymous | reply 41 | July 3, 2025 11:30 PM |
He's deemed difficult to work with. A number of my fellow actor friends who've been on set with him corroborate this, saying he's a fucking nightmare.
by Anonymous | reply 42 | July 3, 2025 11:44 PM |
"You know, I had two older sisters, and everybody seemed to be naked all the time, my parents and my sisters,” he says. “Our household was very comfortable with sexuality. There was just a lot of girls around. And guys. I played doctor with both.”
Damn. I love this guy.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | July 4, 2025 12:10 AM |
He ruined the last season of The Practice.
by Anonymous | reply 45 | July 4, 2025 1:42 PM |
I started watching when he came on and he was amazing. But he did take over the whole show, because hello, it's Spader, so I can see long time fans hating it. But I loved it, he gave the show some edge.
I loved Boston legal too, at least the first few seasons. Then he slowly morfed into a democrat Denny Crane and the character lost all edge.
by Anonymous | reply 46 | July 4, 2025 2:32 PM |
I've gone into a bit of a deep dive with Spader and caught this hilariously bad made for tv ocie about Cocaine addiction. It stars Dennis Weaver in a hilarious turn, almost as hammy as the motel attendant he played in Touch of Evil. Spader is his hot kid in a uncharacterstic likeable, noncreepy (so sort of boring) non pervy role. But he looks SCRUMPTIOUS. Especially in that end scene.
