Enigma - 2025
The bitterness and bitchery of elderly trans women is like DL come to life in this documentary. The petty jealousies are still there after half a century which makes it fun.
[quote]Lear's background remains a mystery. She has variously let it be known that her mother was English or French or Vietnamese or Chinese, and that her father was English, Russian, French or Indonesian. She may have been born in Hanoi in 1939, or Hong Kong in either 1941 or 1946. Once she said she was from Transylvania. And to this day, it is a matter of conjecture as to whether she was born a boy or a girl.

I just watched it. I didn't realize it was the same director of another excellent trans-themed HBO Doc -- "The Stroll". I only knew of Amanda Lear superficially... having never lived in Europe and being born after the height of the disco era. And I'd never heard of the other main subject, April Ashley, an equally fascinating figure. I thought it was really quite beautiful the way the film showed how their paths differed with Ashley bein openly trans and Amanda denying her identity to this day. Honestly, it could have been a slightly longer 3-part docuseries, but better to leave us wanting more, I suppose. I don't know what OP's video was because the linky is stinky, but here's the trailer...
