Private sector lost 33,000 jobs in June

Badly missing expectations for a 100,000 increase.

*Private sector hiring unexpectedly contracted in June, payrolls processing firm ADP said Wednesday.

*It's a potential sign that the economy may not be as sturdy as investors believe.

Private payrolls lost 33,000 jobs in June, the ADP report showed, the first decrease since March 2023. Economists polled by Dow Jones forecast an increase of 100,000 for the month. The May job growth figure was revised even lower to just 29,000 jobs added from 37,000.

Market's are flat today, you make it sound like markets are exploding higher today. They are not.

This is all Jill Biden's fault, and how fucking DARE you suggest she's not president right now.

by Anonymousreply 5July 2, 2025 2:13 PM

I am frankly surprised the economy has held on for as long as it has. I think that speaks to the strength of the economy under Biden.

by Anonymousreply 6July 2, 2025 3:23 PM

33,000 isn't nearly enough to rattle Republicans. Add 300,000 and it's still not nearly enough.

by Anonymousreply 7July 2, 2025 4:11 PM

Winning!

by Anonymousreply 8July 2, 2025 4:12 PM

the Biden economy, which focused on bolstering the middle class, was booming. Trump literally killed it by firing thousands of federal workers and stopping billions in government grants.

Blaming Biden is ridiculous

by Anonymousreply 9July 2, 2025 4:21 PM

Since when did facts ever stop a rethugs from lying, r9? Or Fux Noise from lying?

And the dumb maggot cunts who voted for this and lost their jobs will believe the lies because they’re brain dead maggot cunts

by Anonymousreply 10July 2, 2025 4:24 PM

Trump will be glad to be able to use the stat to hammer the Federal Reserve to lower interest rates.

WTF??? How did CNBC get it wrong?

The US economy added a stronger-than-expected 147,000 jobs in June and the unemployment rate fell to 4.1%

The US job market continues to chug along despite heightened uncertainty about the economy and how President Donald Trump’s tariffs could shake out.

The economy added a stronger-than-expected 147,000 jobs in June, and the unemployment rate ticked down to 4.1% from 4.2%, according to Bureau of Labor Statistics data released Thursday.

Last month’s gains, which landed above expectations for 117,500 jobs to be added, marked a slight increase from May’s total, which was revised up slightly (5,000 jobs) to 144,000. April’s job gains were revised higher by 11,000 jobs, for a net gain of 158,000.

How many MAGAs who lost their government jobs already think it’s because of Biden. I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s most of them.

by Anonymousreply 13July 3, 2025 1:50 PM

the GOP doesn't care, they got their HUGE tax cuts

by Anonymousreply 14July 3, 2025 1:58 PM

Hmmm...

🚨 #BREAKINGNEWS Job report out today makes zero sense. ADP showed we lost 33 thousand private sector jobs. Today's report shows we added 73 thousand private sector jobs, while adding 70 thousand goverment jobs.

Goverment spending is up 300 billion in 2025 versus previous years. Tells me DOGE didn't decrease goverment size, but increased the government size.

Excluding May jobs numbers they have been revised down up to 100 thousand per month. Something tells me this month's books are being cooked.

Manufacturing jobs last month also decreased 7 thousand jobs.

I will bet these numbers are revised down around 50 thousand by the end of the month. 🚨

^^I wonder if the government jobs numbers aren’t DOGE’d employees being secretly rehired.

by Anonymousreply 16July 3, 2025 2:13 PM

ADP apparently doesn't have the greatest track record on jobs, and normally the government jobs report should be much more reliable.

Unfortunately, now it comes from the Trump Administration, which is thoroughly corrupt and believes in lying as a virtue and does its best to weed out anybody who isn't in the cult, so who knows, really?

Yesterday's numbers were private-sector hiring only and were from ADP, which is a private company. Today's numbers are from the government and include hiring in the public sector, which was responsible for most of the increase in hiring (it was mostly in state and local government). The government's numbers show an increase in private-sector hiring but it's definitely still weak.

by Anonymousreply 22July 3, 2025 3:35 PM

And you believe the numbers from the US Dept. of Labor? Considering they are a lot higher than ADP?

Things that make you say, "Hmmm..."

Live Updates: U.S. Hiring Remains Solid, Sign of a Resilient Economy Employers added 147,000 jobs in June, and the unemployment rate ticked down to 4.1 percent, suggesting that tariffs, interest rates and other headwinds are not yet causing employers to pull back significantly.

by Anonymousreply 24July 3, 2025 4:05 PM

[quote] Employers added 147,000 jobs in June,

Well, assuming their numbers are honest, that includes 70,000 government jobs. That is very weird, considering that everybody in the Trump Cult has been shrieking and howling and sobbing that there are too many government jobs, they're all pretty much waste, fraud, and abuse, and we just went through a whole rollercoaster ride of incels rushing around closing down agencies and firing everyone in sight.

So, what is this shit? Is it all new concentration camp guards? Or what? Who is being hired for all these government jobs and why do they magically not count as government expansion under Trump?

by Anonymousreply 25July 3, 2025 4:18 PM

Curiouser and curiouser!

by Anonymousreply 26July 3, 2025 5:04 PM

[quote] WTF??? How did CNBC get it wrong?

Bottom line, if someone got it wrong, it was ADP. There was a net gain in jobs last month, not a loss. People hoping that the U.S. economy tanks will have to keep searching the sky for another sign.

So, what I'm getting from this jobs report is, it's great to hire more government workers and to spend more on health care.

Well okay then. Is that going to be the policy going forward?

[quote] “Government at the state and local levels did much of the hiring in June,” said Mark Hamrick, senior economic analyst at Bankrate. That helped “the total payrolls number to top expectations,” he said.

[quote]State government payrolls grew by 47,000, while local governments added 33,000 jobs. The bulk of those new jobs on both levels were in education, the data shows.

It looks like the education sector isn’t hurting job-wise, or this just the normal hiring for the new school year?
