And they said this marriage wouldn't last...

July 1, 1998 - Barbra Streisand married actor James Brolin in her Beverly Hills back yard, two years to the day in which the two of them met on a 'fix up' at a dinner party. It was the second marriage for Streisand, then 56 and the third for Brolin, then 57 (he would turn 58 two weeks after).

27 years later, they are still happily married, now known as one of the 'longest' celebrity marriages in Hollywood. Brolin, who turns 85 in two weeks, has admitted they go to therapy 'regularly' and that is what has strengthened their marriage. Streisand, 83, just released her 37th studio album for Columbia Records.

Nobody said any such thing. Nobody gave/gives a shit.

by Anonymousreply 1July 2, 2025 11:40 AM

Oh, I could probably give a shit or two.

R1 Oh yes they did - 27 years ago. They didn't think Streisand could stay married as she was 'single' for all but 8 of her 56 years; she couldn't 'share' herself with anyone so a marriage wasn't for her. They didn't think Brolin really wanted to be in a third marriage as he was pushing 60. It was said he wanted to stay in a 'partnership' with her, not a marriage - but she coaxed him into marrying her. Gossip columnists back then gave it 3 years or so - predicting a split after the new millennium. They were wrong.

WHO IS THEY?

by Anonymousreply 4July 2, 2025 1:31 PM

Streisand was partnered for many more than eight years. Gould - 6, Peters - 8, Baskin - 4. That’s eighteen years, pal.

R5 Partnered, but not married. Big difference.

by Anonymousreply 6July 2, 2025 5:32 PM

R4 Skeptics and gossip columnists.

The where does the "8" come from in R3's post, R6? Elliott Gould and Babs were married from 1963 to legal separation in 1969.

by Anonymousreply 8July 2, 2025 6:14 PM

R8 They were married on September 13, 1963 and legally divorced on July 6, 1971. That counts as just shy of a full eight years of marriage. Even though they separated earlier, they were still legally married until the divorce was finalized.

She dated Jon Voight right before meeting James.

Imagine those two together?

by Anonymousreply 10July 2, 2025 8:16 PM

She dated Anthony Newley right under Joan Collins’ nose Imagine those two together?

Yes, R9, and Elliott Gould had a pregnant 18 year old girlfriend. Last two years don’t count.

I'm a Gold Star Gay, but I think I would love to have married her.

R10 And the Diana Ross began a relationship with Voight once Arne Naess left her. Interesting how Ross found romance with 2 of Streisand exes - Ryan O'Neal and John Voight.

John Voight

OH DEAR

by Anonymousreply 15July 3, 2025 1:41 AM

Robert Young died 20 days after they were married. Probably heartbroken he wasn't invited.
