Happy 80th birthday, Debbie Harry!

The fabulous Debbie Harry was born on July 1,1945: I’m sure many DLers will want to join me in wishing her a happy 80th birthday! I’ve so enjoyed listening to her music and watching her in concert for over 40 years.

It's comforting to me that she's 80 and still going strong

She still looks fabulous.

Wow, who knew she was so lovely in her youth.

And Debbie was 35 when she appeared on The Muppet Show. I always thought her movie career would have worked out better if she had become famous in her 20s.

Love Blondie and Debbie Harry! They have so many great songs. She reminds me of Michelle Pfeiffer in her youth.

I really like her a lot, but it's a little puzzling how she is such a huge icon!

Debbie Harry is not supposed to be 80. It just doesn't sound right.

How old are you, r6?

by Anonymousreply 8July 4, 2025 5:58 PM

38, r8

And really didn't mean it in a shitty way at all - just meant that Blondie had so many great songs as a band, but she wasn't super successful as a solo artist, right? Based on what I read/watch. I've lately become super into Blondie's music, so just really getting to know details.

I know, r9, that's why I asked. You have to realize, Debbie *was* Blondie.

r10 Makes sense - thanks

R6 I think her iconic status mostly developed in the Nineties after Blondie, and most of her solo career was over. Firstly, in the number of bands that seemed to emulate her, and then the influence in fashion that came through the pages of Vogue, and all the designers who loved her. It is a little unusual that a star's career keeps on developing without the participation of the star, but that is what happened with her.

"Your old lover is lying in the gutter / He used to be such an all night strutter." I love Blondie's lyrics... this one always gives me a chuckle.

Hard to believe that Barbra is only three years older than Debbie.
