I guess all of them need money.
The Devil Wears Prada 2 starts production this week

Seriously? Outside of a few scenes with Blunt and Streep, that film was pretty cheesy and overrated. A lot of nonmeat filler subplots and some really thinly constructed conflict made it feel about an hour too long.
Stanley Tucci’s character reminded me of Buffalo Bill in Silence of the Lambs, a dopey stereotype that no one seemed to notice. Maybe in Part 2 he could sing “Goodbye Horses” in the mirror.

Finally something that can unite the nation.

Branagh is the interesting twist here. He's known to be a diva.....and Streep is known to have no patience for that nonsense, so this might get juicy!

A classic that doesn't need a sequel.

Fuck do I hate Kenneth Branagh.
Otherwise, I’d be feeling some degree of anticipation, though I agree with r1 - a lot of the original was pretty pedestrian.

I never got the appeal either, I'm much more excited about Practical Magic 2.

Today is when I learned there is a Practical Magic 2 coming out. JFC. Hollywood really loves its sequels these days.

r7 In fairness, there are four books in that series, and the last one takes place thirty years after the first one which was made into a movie. So at least they have that excuse.

Adjusted box-office totals:
The Devil Wears Prada $521 million
Practical Magic $92 million
Meet the Fockers $900 million

I doubt that Streep does.

Will there be a cameo from newly unemployed Anna Wintour?
by Anonymous | reply 11 | June 30, 2025 6:13 PM |
Anna is replacing Andy Serkis in the role of Gollum.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | June 30, 2025 10:18 PM |
First image and she looks amazing, of course.
Okay, the face is kinda Joker-adjacent, I'm mostly referring to her getup.

Is Andy going to have returned to Runway and knocked off Miranda?
by Anonymous | reply 14 | July 21, 2025 7:08 PM |
I'm surprised Streep and Hathaway agreed to return.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | July 21, 2025 7:16 PM |
Sequel wouldn't be happening without those two, r15. Same for Practical Magic 2, there's just no point in having the same name of the movie in that case.

I want Stanley Tucci in me deeply.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | July 21, 2025 7:29 PM |
Stanley Tucci seems like a shitty human being. I have no idea why he is everywhere now.

Streep was fine but I've never cared for Hathaway.

That's all.

Will Branagh be sporting his Poirot mustachios?
by Anonymous | reply 21 | July 22, 2025 2:09 AM |
That kind of why the movie works, r19. Hathaway's character believes the job is beneath her and has contempt for the fashion industry in general. It's funny and justified when Streep's character is a giant bitch to her.
If Hathaway's character had been likable and respectful, Streep's character would have just been a nasty bully and the movie wouldn't have been funny.

[quote]As previously reported, the sequel will have Priestly, still the head of Runway, contending with the headwinds of publishing, with the magazine now in a diminished state. Blunt’s onetime assistant will now be an executive at a luxury brand conglomerate that advertises with Runway.
With a decent script, this could be interesting. Priestly now having to grovel to Emily for ad dollars. Andie and Emily now having a grudging friendship. The impact of social media and the decline of print magazines.
Now, if they do a Met Gala riff so they can have dozens of high profile cameos, we can just wait for it to hit streaming and not bother.

If something happens to Streep early in filming, we'll know who to side-eye.

“I said to myself, go ahead. Take a chance. Hire the smart, fat girl. I had hope. My God, I live on it.”

I guess The Devil Wears Prerogatives.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | July 22, 2025 5:20 AM |
The original was really trying to humanize a very bitchy person....Anna Wintour, we might just be talking about you. A lot of it was rather lame. But some scenes were priceless - the Cerulean for instance. And a few toss-away comic lines, like Emily Blunt's, "I'm just a stomach-virus away from reaching my target weight".
I think someone posted this on DL before, but I think it's very cute.

Meryl looks so chic here. I love the color palette. Now, I think this will be good.
