NC is a swing state
Breaking: Thom Tillis not running for re-election

Not really a swing state đ

Someone on X was saying Trump attacked him yesterday. I had not heard that. Is it true ? Whenever I get news about some Republican announcing his "retirement" I get happy for about two seconds because., foolishly, I think, "Well, maybe he will vote with the Dems since it won't matter. But then I realize that he won't. He'll vote for every heinous thing the Republicans propose ...because it won't matter.

He must be ready to sink the "Big Beautiful Bill" and give Dump the middle finger by giving his seat to a non-Republican.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | June 29, 2025 6:20 PM |
He deserves prison for going against baby face dictator Donald Trump.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | June 29, 2025 6:22 PM |
He really had no choice. He spoke out vocally against Trump, which led Trump to seek retribution. Tillis is over as an elected Republican official. He also has his own safety and that of his family to consider since Trump sicked his dangerous MAGA dogs on him.
If he doesn't step down, his life will be pure hell and possibly at risk.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | June 29, 2025 6:38 PM |
R5 I don't feel a bit sorry. I am sure he and his family can afford to move to more hospitable surroundings. I'm also sure he probably carries a gun.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | June 29, 2025 6:47 PM |
Trump attacked him a couple of times on Truthsocial.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | June 29, 2025 6:54 PM |
Trump attacks anyone who tells the truth.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | June 29, 2025 6:59 PM |
And here I cynically thought his vote against the bill was because he was up for reelection in a swingy state. I wonder if this news makes it more likely that the popular former Democratic governor Roy Cooper now runs.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | June 29, 2025 7:20 PM |
I hope Mark Robinson jumps in the race.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | June 29, 2025 7:23 PM |
So much for Trump's political acumen. He didn't need Tillis's vote, but he couldn't help but criticize him. Now the NC Senate seat is more in doubt than it might otherwise have been.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | June 29, 2025 7:30 PM |
Even in his addled state, Dump never forgets a slight. He'll probably sic the IRS on Tillis.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | June 29, 2025 7:40 PM |
The bravery is stunning.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | June 29, 2025 7:42 PM |
Huh. Maybe Dems can pick this seat up?
That would be helpful
by Anonymous | reply 14 | June 29, 2025 7:43 PM |
Even running for reelection in '20 with Trump leading the ticket, & running against a compromised candidate, Tillis only won with 48.69% of the vote, so yes, this is a flippable seat.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | June 29, 2025 7:49 PM |
Do the Dems have a good candidate ready to go?
by Anonymous | reply 16 | June 29, 2025 8:09 PM |
NC is a Red cesspool.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | June 29, 2025 8:16 PM |
Roy Cooper, the recently term-limited former governor, R16.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | June 29, 2025 8:18 PM |
The very credentialed Lara Trump may well be Tillis's replacement. I'd like Cooper's chances against her.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | June 29, 2025 8:43 PM |
^ I thought Lara was busy with her singing career.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | June 29, 2025 8:51 PM |
Some good news for the Dems and a Republican who isnât a spineless coward. This big beautiful bill should give Dems something to run on in 26.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | June 29, 2025 8:55 PM |
Thom Tillisch!
by Anonymous | reply 22 | June 29, 2025 9:12 PM |
For those who haven't been paying attention until now, Thom Tillis has already been on thin ice with other Republicans for a while. Also, he's unpopular in NC. The Republicans would have needed to jettison him regardless of recent events with the BBB.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | June 29, 2025 9:25 PM |
Elon is doubling down on his criticisms of the BBB and what he ought to do is assure the dissenters he will support their reelection, to mute Trump's threats.

Musk is radioactive and doesnât have a constituency of his own the way Trump does with his crazy cult members.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | June 29, 2025 11:39 PM |
Musk's political power is gone. The Trump supporters only have to repeat and reuse the anti-Musk campaign that the Democrats waged against him to stamp out any potential impact of Musk's carping.

Musk is a giant asshole who is hated by everyone. People are literally burning their Teslas.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | June 30, 2025 12:08 AM |
R25, yes but this bill is So controversial and unpopular that Elon might just buy his way into a more sympathetic image if he does it smartly.

It doesn't help that the Medicaid cuts don't kick in until after the midterms.

They always plan shit like that so they can claim they have nothing to do with it.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | June 30, 2025 3:06 AM |
Don't rejoice yet...........

Please no Lara Trump. She is an ignorant big foot.
