Trump’s Faith Office violates the Gospel of Jesus Christ by holding loud, public prayer circle

Do you think they're aware of this passage from Matthew? What's the guy speaking in tongues saying? Didn't Dress Barn have a larger size? What exactly does a "faith office" do and what's the budget? So many questions.

[QUOTE]“When you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men … but when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your father who is unseen.” -- (Matthew 6:5-8)

We're on the stupidest timeline.

Hey, Trump did say he was a devout Episcyterian

A flock of fraudsters.

by Anonymousreply 3June 24, 2025 12:04 AM

As somebody raised Catholic, prayer was silent and staid.

Speaking in tongues and charismatic prayer is extremely odd. If you’re looking for that kind of emotional high, they could go clubbing, sing along to music or have sex.

It's very American, r4

by Anonymousreply 5June 24, 2025 12:07 AM

When did we go back to 1825?

by Anonymousreply 6June 24, 2025 12:12 AM

I should add, I wish I could go back and be an historian of American religious movements. It's a topic that fascinates me.

by Anonymousreply 7June 24, 2025 12:13 AM

I really miss the Old Money New England WASP Republicans.

Sure, they were Christian Conservatives, but they would NEVER EVER have such a tawdry and sloppy display of religion or emotions like this.

by Anonymousreply 8June 24, 2025 12:13 AM

Even trashy Southern Baptists don't engage in this shit.

by Anonymousreply 9June 24, 2025 12:17 AM

R4 Same here. My mom was a very quiet Catholic, and that verse OP quotes was one of her favorites, and part of how we kids were raised to think about prayer.

by Anonymousreply 10June 24, 2025 12:34 AM

True, R9, I was raised southern baptist, the sermons were extremely boring.

Southern baptists were/are very bigoted towards catholics. When I was a child (1970's) no images of Jesus (except for prints & posters) were allowed, we were taught that the catholics were Mary worshippers who prayed to statues & stained glass windows.

These people make me sick.

And OP? You forgot the end of that Bible quote: and God, who sees what you do in secret, will reward you.

R8

My dad is so WASPy about religion that he’s offended by those Christ/fish car emblems.

by Anonymousreply 13June 24, 2025 12:49 AM

r13 My dad is too! lol He always says "I'm just a traditional Presbyterian, we don't do that."

by Anonymousreply 14June 24, 2025 12:57 AM

These freakazoids run the country!

by Anonymousreply 15June 24, 2025 12:57 AM

Fundies LIVE to shove their obnoxious religiosity down your throat!

by Anonymousreply 16June 24, 2025 1:24 AM

Thanks, senior lesbian/r12. I had a long and faded memory of the passage. I did a quick search and found a BBC site where the passage was apparently truncated.

I'm a Catholic school product -- West coast from early 70s to '82 -- taught by Franciscans and Sisters of Mercy (with a 2 year public school pitstop for Jr High). The theology I learned was more along the lines of Matthew and the Sermon from the Mount, which is ever-perplexing to "Christian" MAGAts. Their notions of Christianity are so medieval that they would spit on JC and disavow him if he walked the earth now.

BTW, I'm a happy atheist. JC may or may not have been an actual real historical figure -- probably an amalgamen of figures from regional legends.

by Anonymousreply 17June 24, 2025 1:25 AM

R17 - MAGA is straight-up Roman paganism with the absolutely thinnest of veneers slapped on top that supposedly make them Christians.

by Anonymousreply 18June 24, 2025 1:40 AM

Christ, these people are fucking insane!
