Barbra Streisand Is Still ‘Pissed Off’ Over ‘Fockers’ Salary

Barbra Streisand still gives a “fock” about her “Meet the Fockers” salary. The EGOT winner, who appears in “Meet the Parents” franchise installments “Meet the Fockers” and “Little Fockers,” told Variety that she was “pissed off” by the salary discrepancies across the ensemble cast.

“They’d have to pay me a lot of money because I didn’t get paid what the other people got paid and so I’m pissed off,” the icon said while promoting her album, “The Secret of Life: Partners, Volume Two.”

She added, “I was in the time when women were getting paid less than the men. The head of Universal was Ron Meyer at the time, and he actually sent me a bonus check. It was very sweet.”

Yet Streisand is still working parallel to the “Meet the Parents” universe: The singer collaborates with “Meet the Parents 4” actress Ariana Grande for the song “One Heart, One Voice” off the new album. Streisand said that Grande has one of the “hottest, biggest, most wonderful voices” in the industry. Grande is set for an undisclosed role in the fourth “Meet the Parents” film, which will be released November 25, 2026. John Hamburg, the co-writer of the first three “Meet the Parents” films, writes and directs the fourth.

As for her other possible acting roles, Streisand stayed mum. “I get a lot of offers, but they’re funny offers. Well, one was good. It was something that Peter Bogdanovich was going to do, and Guillermo del Toro sent it to me, I think. It’s a subject that I actually love, but I’m not going to tell you,” she said. “I always wanted to end my career, my movie career doing ‘Gypsy.’ That would’ve been the book end to my ‘Funny Girl’ play. I couldn’t get that done. Time goes so fast.”

Streisand is currently in production on a multi-part documentary about her life, with Frank Marshall directing and Alex Gibney producing. Streisand herself, though, isn’t looking to direct anytime soon. “I’m not ready to direct again,” the “Yentl” filmmaker said. “I think I’ve probably had it.”

So sayeth us all.

She was no longer a movie star nor best-selling recording artist by the 2000s.

These woke feminists are so fucking stupid!

What they want is communism where everyone gets paid the same regardless of popularity/bankability.

Also see the WNBA who want to be paid the same as the NBA despite not drawing huge crowds/revenue.

Does she have hot dog on a stick at her mall? I was just wondering.

[quote]She was no longer a movie star nor best-selling recording artist by the 2000s.

She scored a #1 album in 2009 ('Love Is The Answer'), 2014 ('Partners'), and 2016 ('Encore: Movie Partners Sing Broadway'). She was part of the ensemble cast of a #1 movie in 2004 ('Meet the Fockers').

Stop talking shit out of your ass and do your homework before you post.

Before Fockers (2004) the only film the fourth billed Streisand had done was the Mirror Has Two Faces (1996)

by Anonymousreply 7June 23, 2025 10:03 PM

They’re probably not even entertaining the idea of asking Hoffman or Streisand back anyway. I honestly can’t believe they’re doing a fourth one, when the last one was fucking horrible.

R7, come again?

by Anonymousreply 9June 23, 2025 10:29 PM

I’m surprised she’s not used to it.

Seven nominations on the shelf.

Did this film direct itself?

Her agent should have negotiated a better salary

by Anonymousreply 11June 23, 2025 10:34 PM

I'm puzzled about her salary issues, as she long regretted taking a salary for WHAT'S UP DOC instead of box-office percentage points. The film was a huge hit and she could have a lot more money if she thought twice.

Barbra was a huge 'get' for MEET THE FOLKERS (If Barbra had turned them down, Universal would have gone with Bette Midler) so you'd think she would have commanded as huge salary for it. ...but not taking points again seems odd.

by Anonymousreply 12June 23, 2025 10:38 PM

R12 She thought WHAT'S UP DOC? was a piece of shit that was going to tank. So she took the salary up front. She still doesn't understand the movie's success and has never had much regard for it.

She's incredibly talented, the problem is her ego has always gotten in her own way, much to her own detriment. And as much as she prides herself on always being right, she has made some really bad choices.

Gypsy never would have worked with her regardless of when she did it, because there was no way she was going to allow herself to be portrayed as a ball busting bitch on screen. She had the chops to go there, but her vanity would never allow it. There would have been some redemption or some humanizing of Rose, and it would have flattened the conflict of the story.

Likewise, with directing. She got four academy award nominated performances out of three movies, which is VERY impressive. But Mirror is a shitty movie to go out on. If she had been more understanding with Larry Kramer over ONE line of dialogue, she could have done The Normal Heart (which she wouldn't' have been in and could have given her the respect and awards recognition she really wanted) It took AMPAS a while to warm up to Spielberg, they could have warmed to Barbra had she played her cards right. But Barbra just wanted it HER way. And then wants to cry sexism when people tire of it.

She memoir bombed. Must really chap her ass.

by Anonymousreply 14June 23, 2025 10:47 PM

r12: I've always thought her disdain for WHAT'S UP DOC? stemmed from the fact that though Barbra looked sensational and gave one of her best performances - funny, sly and frisky - Madeline Kahn stole every scene she was in and scored unanimous raves.

I'm sure that annoyed the shit out of Streisand.

by Anonymousreply 15June 23, 2025 10:56 PM

She seems like a miserable person.

Go shop at your underground mall, yenta.

Dustin Hoffman is hot for an old man

by Anonymousreply 18June 23, 2025 11:45 PM

R15 I think they had to coax her out of the rest room after the table read for What’s Up, Doc. Kahn’s reading drew some explosive laughter around the table, and Streisand’s plaintive comment was something like “I thought this was my movie”. Kahn’s scenes were almost all pitch perfect. In that role, at that time, she had a form of freakishly comedic presence that nearly rendered the other actors invisible.

When her character glares at Streisand and asks dismissively “who is this person?”, it’s almost true to life.

by Anonymousreply 19June 23, 2025 11:50 PM

R12 If I remember correctly when the movie first came out, it was said that though Barbra didn't get a huge paycheck for 'Fockers', she negotiated a very easy / gentle work schedule for herself in return of which she didn't have to be 'on set' all day and night like the other cast members needed to be. That was a 'big get' for her back then.

by Anonymousreply 20June 24, 2025 2:46 AM

Barbra's like 100 years old.

She would be lucky to get any part in any movie, at this point.

by Anonymousreply 21June 24, 2025 3:37 AM

Meet The Fockers made an adjusted $900 million at the box office. That’s unheard of for a comedy. It was massive. Even Little Fockers made more money than current darling Sinners despite bad reviews.

I can understand why she’s upset that she didn’t get a huge payday. Stiller and DeNiro were producers so they have both made a fortune.

I'm available!

Didn’t she steal some doors she liked from the set?

Surely those are worth something.
