It's not necessarily homophobic parents who want a trans kid over a gay kid but the culture in schools and on social media is that gender non comformity pushes the idea that soft and camp boys aren't really boys (hi Jazz!) and non girlie girls aren't really girls.

And a lot of middle class adults who think of themselves as liberal and bohemian, especially white wealthy privileged adults love the idea of being to opt in to an oppressed class and be a parent to a trans kid.
