Trump Promised To Keep The U.S. Out Of Middle East Wars, But JD Vance Has A New Justification
Vice President JD Vance said he can "empathize with Americans who are exhausted after 25 years of foreign entanglements...But the difference is that back then, we had dumb presidents."
Vance argued that President Donald Trump’s recent bombing of Iran is different from past “entanglements in the Middle East” because Vance believes Trump is smart.
Vance’s remarks came on NBC’s ‘Meet the Press with Kristen Welker’ on Sunday as he defended Trump’s unilateral decision to insert the U.S. in Israel’s war on Iran, a move that numerous lawmakers have condemned or called unconstitutional.

“First of all, the president has clear authority to act to prevent proliferation of weapons of mass destruction. And the worst weapon of mass destruction of them all is nuclear. The idea that this was outside of presidential authority, I think any real serious legal person would tell you that’s not true,” Vance told Welker.
He added: “I certainly empathize with Americans who are exhausted after 25 years of foreign entanglements in the Middle East. I understand the concern. But the difference is that back then, we had dumb presidents, and now we have a president who actually knows how to accomplish America’s national security objectives. So this is not going to be some long, drawn-out thing. We’ve got in. We’ve done the job of setting their nuclear program back. We’re going to now work to permanently dismantle that nuclear program over the coming years. And that is what the president has set out to do.”
Vance also insisted that the U.S. isn’t at war with Iran ― “We’re at war with Iran’s nuclear program,” he said.
“We have no interest in boots on the ground,” Vance added. “The president has actually been one of the fiercest critics of 25 years of failed foreign policy in the Middle East, which is why he did what he did: a very precise, a very surgical strike tailored to an American national interest. And that national interest is Iran cannot have a nuclear weapon.”
Trump, who prided himself on being a “peacemaker and a unifier,” broke his promises to Americans that he would “prevent World War Three” and stop “chaos in the Middle East” when he bombed three nuclear facilities in Iran — in Fordo, Natanz and Isfahan — on Saturday.
Despite bipartisan pushback from lawmakers, Trump has also threatened more attacks on Iran.
“If peace does not come quickly, we will go after those other targets with precision, speed and skill,” the president said on Saturday.

This is going to cook Vance’s goose, just as her Senate vote cooked Hillary Clinton’s. The Trump coalition has a strong anti-foreign war contingent who is never going to forgive this.

Trump chose well when he picked Vance. Dumb and Dumber. I have been thinking. We all know Trump is a puppet, an asset of Putin's. Now this Iran thing comes up and suddenly it appears that they're on opposite sides. But I'm thinking there is more than meets the eye. Does anyone else remember this? Back in Trump's first term, there was some dust up with Syria. Russian troops and military stuff was involved. And we were speculating what Trump would do. And it turns out he ended up bombing this airfield with Russian planes and soldiers there. So we find out after the fact that Putin and was warned ahead of time, so he could order his people to safety, and so Trump bombed the airfield, and bragged about it. The Russians suffered absolute minimum damage. And Trump and his buddies claimed it was proof that Putin didn't run Trump. So now we have him bombing Iran, and and bragging that it was a huge success, and the Iranians claiming they moved their stuff back in March, so yes it was damaging, but it was not catastrophic. Now the Iranian minister is heading to Moscow. I think Netanyahu has a huge target on his back, and Trump is engaged in another one of his charades. He bombed Iran to show everyone he is on Israel's side, but he also did it in such a way as to not fuck with Putin. At least this is my theory. I know one thing. The Iranians are pissed off at Trump and so is the rest of world and he is making it hard for Americans to travel.

Republicans tend to poll one way on an issue, then when Trump does the opposite, they suddenly poll that way. The general American opposition to involvement in Iran is about to disappear, joining the list of 50/50 partisan issues. Mindless worshippers, all of them. Their real war was always on education.

How interesting and inexplicable-seeming it is having Henry VIII as the current United States Vice President (and, sadly, probably the continuing future one or even President).

[quote] Iran says US ‘must receive a response’ after Trump’s strikes on nuclear sites
Iran has warned the US to brace for retaliation after Donald Trump’s administration joined Israel in its war against Tehran, tearing up his isolationist foreign policy and launching the most consequential intervention in a conflict in a generation.
Almost a day after US strikes targeting three key Iranian nuclear sites, Iran’s president, Masoud Pezeshkian, told France’s Emmanuel Macron: “The Americans must receive a response to their aggression,” signalling a potential Iranian reprisal that could drag the US into a new, protracted conflict in the Middle East.
Iran’s foreign minister, Abbas Araghchi, said he planned to fly to Moscow to meet Russia’s president, Vladimir Putin, on Monday morning for consultations. Ali Akbar Velayati, an adviser to Iran’s supreme leader, said any country used by the US to strike Iran “will be a legitimate target for our armed forces,” the state-run IRNA news agency reported.

Is Cheney really cowering with fear somewhere? His daughter was extremely high profile fighting against Trump. It didn’t work but she fought the good fight.
