Benson Boone's new video for "Mr. Electric Blue"

Doesn't this seem unusually gay and whorish, even for him?

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 90July 14, 2025 1:36 AM

Lighten up, crabbyface. It's just corny beefcake style.

by Anonymousreply 1June 22, 2025 11:58 PM

I don't see how everyone could see how gay Billy Squier's video for "Rock Me Tonite" was forty years ago, but so far no one's talking about this even though Benson Boone is supposedly a straight Mormon. The wet, shirtless, short-shorts look in the carwashing footage is right out of a Falcon video.

by Anonymousreply 2June 23, 2025 12:21 AM

Who's crabby, r1? I characterized the video as that with only the deepest gratitude and appreciation.

by Anonymousreply 3June 23, 2025 12:25 AM

I don't understand this guy's endgame. Is he going for teen heartthrob or slutty gay cock tease? He flaunts that ass like a male version of that little baby doll singer who coos, whimpers, shakes her ass and flaunts her dirty pillows like a Lolita blow up doll. Do we know yet who the country singer that supposedly took his shot and tried to tap that ass during a Grammy party? Apparently he got turned down because that ass belongs to the Imagine Dragon dude.

by Anonymousreply 4June 23, 2025 12:36 AM

I need to start writing down the names of all the celebrities often mentioned on DL that I dont know so I can look them up later.

by Anonymousreply 5June 23, 2025 12:48 AM

r4 where'd you read that?

by Anonymousreply 6June 23, 2025 12:51 AM

[quote] I don't understand this guy's endgame.

Why do you need to understand his 'endgame'?

You are not his manager.

by Anonymousreply 7June 23, 2025 12:56 AM

Just awful

by Anonymousreply 8June 23, 2025 1:18 AM

I think this video shows he doesn't take himself or his fame too seriously.

Kinda charming, that.

by Anonymousreply 9June 23, 2025 1:19 AM

How dare people speculate on a celebrity's motives, r7... here on Datalounge, of all places!

by Anonymousreply 10June 23, 2025 1:24 AM

I'd like him to take my virginity.

by Anonymousreply 11June 23, 2025 3:54 AM

I posted on another thread about how I couldn't figure him out after limited exposure, and this video didn't help much. The music is as vaporous as cotton candy but cute enough for pop radio. Google tells me he's dating a woman, and I just learned from R2 that he's Mormon, so the body flaunting and preening is probably gay baiting. But the thing that strikes me as the most artificial is how hard he leans into the "regular guy who stumbled into the music business" image, which is the thrust of this entire video. He's obviously talented, and he carries himself like an upper middle-class kid who jumped the line for getting discovered. In a generation of kids who promote themselves relentlessly on social media, is false modesty now considered attractive?

If you tilt your head and squint, a point could be made that he's being subversive by taking the traditional role of the female pop vixen. But I doubt that much thought has been put into it. All in all, he's a nice-looking boy who's fun to watch. Good for him.

by Anonymousreply 12June 23, 2025 4:44 AM

He’s basically the child of Harry Styles. Safe pop music with an eccentric / flamboyant image that caters to white girls and gay men.

by Anonymousreply 13June 23, 2025 5:08 AM

Is he going to be David Archuleta 2.0 ?

by Anonymousreply 14June 23, 2025 5:16 AM

He's a bigger star now than David Archuleta ever was.

by Anonymousreply 15June 23, 2025 5:29 AM

I really meant that he might go a few years as a Mormon singer/star, and then come out and renounce the religion of his childhood.

by Anonymousreply 16June 23, 2025 5:49 AM

It's not a great song but the video is cute. He knows he's the flavor of the month

by Anonymousreply 17June 23, 2025 10:04 AM

All of these female pop stars dress like sluts and act like whores, why can’t a guy do it as well? I think it’s awesome - the way he dressed and performs - he’s not just gay baiting, he’s everything baiting. It’s fun to watch .

by Anonymousreply 18June 23, 2025 10:08 AM

[quote]He flaunts that ass like a male version of that little baby doll singer who coos, whimpers, shakes her ass and flaunts her dirty pillows like a Lolita blow up doll.

I assume you’re talking about Sabrina Carpenter. Yeah, he is kind of a male version of her.

by Anonymousreply 19June 23, 2025 10:16 AM

Pandering to the fraus and the gays.

Tale as old as time.

by Anonymousreply 20June 23, 2025 10:26 AM

[quote] He's a bigger star now than David Archuleta ever was.

Not below the waist.

by Anonymousreply 21June 23, 2025 10:52 AM

I can't help finding him sexy.

by Anonymousreply 22June 23, 2025 11:10 AM

He’s young, cute, has a sexy porn ‘stache and great legs. Nothing else matters right now.

by Anonymousreply 23June 23, 2025 1:12 PM

I actually like it! Good for him - fun enough summer tune.

by Anonymousreply 24June 23, 2025 1:32 PM

I think the song is fun and I thoroughly enjoyed looking at him, so... *shrug*

by Anonymousreply 25June 23, 2025 1:53 PM

by Anonymousreply 27June 23, 2025 3:08 PM

When done properly pop music approached an art form. Can't imagine a pop star reducing themselves to a sex object just to sell more records.

by Anonymousreply 28June 23, 2025 3:13 PM

That moustache is so ugly and off-putting. Not helping is his music is horrible.

by Anonymousreply 29June 23, 2025 3:47 PM

Eh, he's 22 years old, and who isn't a complete dumb ass at that age.

by Anonymousreply 30June 23, 2025 4:07 PM

I'm embarrassed for him. He has such a trailer park vibe. And I don't care for his music.

by Anonymousreply 31June 23, 2025 4:31 PM

I’m so tired of pop and hip hop music. It’s complete crap. It’s shit I could make on my computer.

by Anonymousreply 32June 23, 2025 5:03 PM

Tiny dick, blown out hole, Mormon, no talent, he’s the new Psy of Gangnam Style fame or LMAFO. He better be saving his money.

by Anonymousreply 33June 23, 2025 5:04 PM

BUMP- and a cock tease- also the jumping over the piano. Maybe I am old but Sinatra, The Stones, and Patsy Cline didn't need a trick to catch their fans' attention.

by Anonymousreply 34June 23, 2025 6:12 PM

R13 called it. He is the American model of Harry Styles. This video clearly shows he has aspiration to be an actor.

by Anonymousreply 35June 24, 2025 12:14 AM

R30 Someone said this on Twitter about him being 22. I don’t think age is an excuse. That’s 5 years younger than the artists of the “27 Club”.

Some of the most brilliant songs or albums of all time were written by teenagers or people under 21 or a little bit older.

by Anonymousreply 36June 24, 2025 1:07 AM

Not every performer aspires to high art, nor should they be expected to. Having a sense of humor about your own work is commendable.

by Anonymousreply 37June 24, 2025 1:15 AM

[quote] He has such a trailer park vibe.

Newsflash - so is most of America

by Anonymousreply 38June 24, 2025 1:22 AM

R37 Yeah but it’s not about high art. Olivia Rodrigo isn’t “high art” but it’s well crafted pop music.

Benson’s music is textbook TikTok music. He and his songwriters / producers basically write an extremely catchy bar or hook and then fill out the rest of the song with whatever.

I don’t want to sound 800 years old because I’m not but “Stop! In the Name of Love” is not high art but it’s a fucking ear worm from start to finish. The Supremes were 20–21. Holland–Dozier–Holland were 23–25

by Anonymousreply 39June 24, 2025 1:46 AM

And now I just fucked myself.

“Stop in the name of Love” is stuck in my head.

I’m going to be singing the background vocals for the next 3 fucking days.

by Anonymousreply 41June 24, 2025 2:22 AM

I liked it, I like him.

by Anonymousreply 42June 24, 2025 4:18 PM

I think the video is pretty funny. He's not taking himself too seriously and knows he's eye candy for whoever likes that sort of thing.

I hate the mullet and stache, but he does have a great body and isn't ugly.

by Anonymousreply 43June 24, 2025 4:30 PM

He's obviously poking fun at all the blather about him (pro & con) since his rise to fame. I think he's great. A true showman. And I get the feeling that behind scenes he doesn't take himself seriously at all. He doesn't have time to. He's got a show to do.

by Anonymousreply 44June 24, 2025 4:49 PM

Sue me, I enjoyed that. I actually LOLd when he Charlie Blown schlumphed off the diving board.

by Anonymousreply 48June 24, 2025 6:23 PM

You don’t get out much…

by Anonymousreply 49June 24, 2025 7:01 PM

First of all: I would.

Second: He seems sort of nice.

by Anonymousreply 50June 24, 2025 7:15 PM

She's so ironic!

by Anonymousreply 51June 24, 2025 8:27 PM

"He flaunts that ass like a male version of that little baby doll singer who coos, whimpers, shakes her ass and flaunts her dirty pillows like a Lolita blow up doll."

R4 - That description of made me literally LOL

by Anonymousreply 52June 24, 2025 9:11 PM

He's in the business of show. So he needs to show that ass every chance he gets.

by Anonymousreply 53June 24, 2025 9:30 PM

Damn Benson's new album is getting terrible reviews. 43 on Metacritic. Average score 4/10. The NME calls him a 'Lidl Harry Styles'. Lidl = crappy supermarket.

THIS!!!!!!!!

I just can't shake it, the feeling that he jumped the queu. Is he a Tiktok wunderkind or something? Where does he come from? Who discovered him? What's his deal? He suddenly appeared on the Grammys and did a backlfip, and everyone was just supposed to know who he was already. But I'd never heard of the guy.

by Anonymousreply 58June 25, 2025 12:11 AM

There are at least several threads per week on DL for this dude R58. Someone more obsessive than the Condi Troll, no doubt.

by Anonymousreply 59June 25, 2025 12:15 AM

He has no cards to play!

by Anonymousreply 60June 25, 2025 5:27 AM

[QUOTE] Where does he come from?

He jumped the queue by appearing as a contestant on American Idol, which he was predicted to win, although he pulled out before the final because he got a record deal.

In the press release accompanying this album, he foolishly brags that the album only took 17 days to make. None of the journalists were impressed by this and an overarching theme of the reviews is that the album was rushed and throwaway and that Boone didn't take the process seriously.

by Anonymousreply 61June 25, 2025 12:40 PM

[quote] he foolishly brags that the album only took 17 days to make

I'm surprised it took that long.

by Anonymousreply 62June 25, 2025 2:03 PM

The Pitchfork review of his album is pretty hilarious:

"While I consider that, luckily, there are myriad other issues to address with American Heart, starting with its cover, which looks like the movie poster for Zack Snyder’s lost Bruce Springsteen biopic."

"Each song on American Heart is just an empty lunchbox with a few crumbs left by his betters."

"Boone’s music is an invasive species in the garden of good taste..."

by Anonymousreply 64June 25, 2025 6:10 PM

He's so basic. I mean no talent stands out.

by Anonymousreply 65June 25, 2025 10:07 PM

By the way, he was just raised Mormon. He’s not still Mormon.

by Anonymousreply 68July 13, 2025 12:00 PM

These petty reviewers who are trashing Benson's career path and talent are good examples of "those who can DO, and those who can't CRITIQUE". They're jealous someone they consider a young punk was able to develop a great career on a fast pace. They forget what show business is all about. It's about taking every opportunity afforded you. If that puts you ahead of others who may have more talent than you do, so be it. As Jerry Seinfeld once said "show business is not fair, it doesn't need to be fair". It's a dog eat dog business and if someone can make it, especially without harming others, I'm all for it. There are millions of people who are wildly talented who will never get a chance to have a show business career. it's sad, but that's the world we live in.

This new video is blatantly obvious Benson's attempt to poke fun at how his career transpired and is progressing. He seems to know how lucky he is. There is no need for him to apologize for his great luck. He didn't scam this career into being. He was simply at the right place at the right time. No one can fault him for that.

by Anonymousreply 69July 13, 2025 12:28 PM

R69 But we *can* fault him for that pathetic try-stache and his single flipping gimmick.

Those are conscious decisions.

by Anonymousreply 70July 13, 2025 12:31 PM

He’s super cute, never heard of him until now

by Anonymousreply 71July 13, 2025 12:46 PM

[quote] But we *can* fault him for that pathetic try-stache and his single flipping gimmick.

No you can't, or at least you shouldn't. His fans love his backflips. His stache is sexy and he likes it so it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks. The backflips might be "gimmicks", but isn't that what being an entertainer is all about? Finding a gimmick that brings in the fans. He's found one and it's working like a charm.

Even at his young tender age he has already proven himself to be a consummate showman.

by Anonymousreply 72July 13, 2025 1:36 PM

He’s cute, charismatic, and has a nice voice.

The music, however, is terrible. You’d think at this point, he’d be able to work with better people and choose better songs.

by Anonymousreply 73July 13, 2025 1:46 PM

R72 Hi, Benson's mom! Thanks for coming to DL!

by Anonymousreply 74July 13, 2025 2:05 PM

Did this song go anywhere because he now has mother song playing on the radio

by Anonymousreply 75July 13, 2025 3:37 PM

I listened to his new album while working out in the gym. It’s fun pop—nothing distinctive He has a nice voice

by Anonymousreply 76July 13, 2025 3:38 PM

His music and stage show will evolve as he ages and his fan base changes. If he's still performing in 15 years he's not going to be doing any back flips, trust me.

by Anonymousreply 77July 13, 2025 3:41 PM

I would like to feast on his young hairy sweaty taint after peeling down his sequinned flared stretch trousers.

by Anonymousreply 78July 13, 2025 3:49 PM

He sure knows his audience. Some of that is better than 80s,90s soft porn..

by Anonymousreply 79July 13, 2025 5:52 PM

He might develop an anxiety problem.

by Anonymousreply 80July 13, 2025 7:44 PM

Find the song tinny sounding. He has a very thin voice.

by Anonymousreply 81July 13, 2025 8:19 PM

thin frame too.

by Anonymousreply 82July 13, 2025 8:23 PM

He has ONE strong song - Beautiful Things. That's it.

by Anonymousreply 83July 13, 2025 8:56 PM

He’s the male Sabrina Carpenter. Thin voice, a few catchy songs, and super slutty videos and performances.

by Anonymousreply 84July 13, 2025 9:03 PM

When Harry Styles releases his new album, Benson will be tossed in the garbage bin of pop.

by Anonymousreply 85July 13, 2025 10:18 PM

^^^ Not the way we worship younger and firmer flesh. Boone can sing, has a cute face and a nice ass. I cannot think of another young male singer with the voice or showmanship to garner a legitimate comparison to Freddie Mercury. Styles is a marginal vocal talent and is aging like milk.

by Anonymousreply 86July 13, 2025 10:43 PM
