Ezra Miller Admits Holding 'A Lot Of Regret' But Would Return To Hollywood 'On Tentative Grounds'

The "Fantastic Beasts" actor, however, touched on their shocking resurgence at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival, where they attended the premiere of Lynne Ramsey's "Die, My Love."

Wearing a maroon tuxedo and beret, Miller barely interacted with photographers, briskly walking past with their head down. They refused to take any photographs.

"I came to Cannes to support one of my closest friends in the world, who is Lynne Ramsey—who I think is one of the greatest living filmmakers," the actor explained.

Miller said they made the big sacrifice because they would do "anything" for Ramsey.

Later in the interview, "The Perks of Being a Wallflower" touched on their past legal troubles and erratic behavior. Miller got philosophical, giving cryptic comments to describe the difficult time.

"When we go through those crucibles, if we can survive, which was up in the air for me if I'm being real, we then have that capacity to see other people in their crucibles and just to reach towards them," they told the Italian publication.

The 32-year-old continued, "I think that grows more and more rarefied in our world, too. Like, the capacity to do that, the desire to do that, the willingness to do that."

They also confessed to being "very consumed in notions of perception." However, they managed to dig past that by "being a friend to people."

Miller further spoke about those who were supportive during their troubles, saying, "They have my lifelong devotion."

However, the DCU actor also became aware of those who abandoned them during their legal controversies. Discussing the betrayal, they said:

[quote] "I’m grateful for the revelations of who was not that. When you work in this industry, you’ll find yourself in deep, deep relation with a lot of people who do not give a single f-ck about you, or your well-being, at all."

Miller continued, "Not that I don't hold a lot of remorse and lamentation for a lot of things that I did and a lot of things that happened in that time, but I'm really, really grateful for the lessons that came with that abyss."

Ezra Miller's controversies date back to 2020, when a viral video showed the actor appearing to choke a woman at a bar in Reykjavik, Iceland.

Although no charges were filed, things went downhill from there, with 2022 being his worst year. It began with a series of arrests in Hawaii.

On different occasions, the New Jersey native was accused of causing a scene and harassing patrons at a karaoke bar. They were arrested and charged with disorderly conduct, later pleading no contest and paying a $500 fine.

Barely a month later, in April 2022, Miller got in trouble again for allegedly hurling a chair at a 26-year-old woman at a private party. They were slammed with a second-degree assault charge.

Come June 2022, grooming allegations were levied against the "We Need To Talk About Kevin" star. They were also accused of breaking into a Vermont home to steal alcohol.

Miller finally issued an apology in August of that year via a lengthy statement. "Having recently gone through a time of intense crisis, I now understand that I am suffering complex mental health issues and have begun ongoing treatment," it read. "I want to apologize to everyone that I have alarmed and upset with my past behavior."

To be fair R6 - that character was the Trashcan Man and he was absolutely batshit crazy and did shout and scream while running around wearing only filthy underwear with his skin peeling off. Randall Flagg raped him. He was insane and had been driven even more insane with radiation poisoning in the book. Perfect character for Miller.

In June 2022, Iron Eyes' parents filed legal documents asking a judge to issue an order of protection against actor Ezra Miller on her behalf, due to Miller allegedly using "violence, intimidation, threat of violence, fear, paranoia, delusions, and drugs" including marijuana and LSD to hold sway over her. Although Iron Eyes was 18, due to tribal regulations Iron Eyes' parents were still considered their legal guardians.

Iron Eyes' parents claim that an inappropriate relationship began between the pair in 2016, during the Dakota Access Pipeline protests, when Miller was 23 and Iron Eyes was 12. They further claim, and photos document, that the year after the two met, Iron Eyes flew to London to visit Miller on the set of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.

In 2021, they dropped out of school, allegedly to follow Miller. Iron Eyes' parents also alleged in the legal documents that Miller caused bruises on Tokata and that Miller had given Iron Eyes a large amount of LSD in 2020. Their parents countered by claiming their child does not control their social media. Iron Eyes stated in the video response that it's her own choice not to have a phone. As of June 10, 2022, law enforcement was unable to locate Miller to serve them with the order. Miller then posted messages on their Instagram account mocking the court's attempts to find them, but has since deleted them.

In August, Miller's former music collaborator Oliver Ignatius stated that he had witnessed Miller verbally abuse Iron Eyes over her wearing makeup. She defended Miller by referring to the incident as "a catty comment" and a part of "queer dialogue"; she called the allegation of abuse "homophobic".

According to a September 2022 Vanity Fair article, the tribal court dismissed the request for a permanent protective order, and the parents say they withdrew their request for custody, believing the odds were stacked against them; the same article reports that Miller claimed to be Jesus, the devil, and the next Messiah, while Iron Eyes believed herself to be a Native American spider goddess. The article also claimed that Miller and Iron Eyes believe their relationship will bring about a Native American revolution followed by the apocalypse.

The once-troubled “Flash” star was in legal hot water in June 2022 for allegedly assaulting people in Hawaii and Iceland. I was actually a big Ezra Miller fan back in the day. I suppose it's not fair that I expected him to come back from his dark night of the soul looking like a "normie," by which I mean a Hollywood leading man. But he doesn't seem stable to me at all. Long hair, a handlebar mustache and a dress does not telegraph "I'm no longer off the rails."

Having said all that, I think something really bad happened to him. I think he was not protected from things and something, or many things, happened. I can understand how seeing behind the curtain and experiencing the horror aspects of the Industry could cause people to lose their minds. Feeling used, feeling like a pawn, feeling raped and taken advantage of can cause all sorts of internal chaos. Especially for the younger actors and actresses. It's a tale as old as time.

So if he has found is truth in long hair and a dress, he's found his truth. He owes me nothing. My response, however, is to feel icky and to wish to distance myself from all of it. And if I were a film producer I still would not trust Ezra Miller as far as I could throw him. He still gives capable of unraveling at any moment. I don't see him getting anymore big-budget opportunities anymore, and perhaps he doesn't care about the money anyway and is living a different kind of integrity, but he was one of the very best actors of his generation and this doesn't feel like a win for him, where he's landed.
