Of course, they don’t show up. And the bats are out there, I guess chowing down on insects (but hopefully not the lightning bugs).
I love when they blink In synchronization.

I miss that about living in the Midwest. It was beautiful and eerie driving through wooded areas at night. The tree would be full of them. Sadly don't have them on the West coast.

Man, I miss seeing that. I lived in NY for about 10 years (in the country, not the city) and the first time I saw them all blinking out in the backyard, it was the coolest thing.
I grew up in California, so didn't get to grow up seeing that. I'm very thankful for my time out there so I got to experience someplace completely different than what I was used to. I still miss it sometimes.

I looooove them but everywhere I live people spray for mosquitoes….we should outlaw that. Let the lightening bugs thrive again!!! They were magic when I was a kid.

US Yankees in the north refer to them as Fireflys not Lightning Bugs. They are very cool whatevery one calls them. Sometimes I would take walks in the evening and they would blink in the early night- it was so atmoshpheric.

It is magnificent when they’re out.

R5, I’m in Philly but grew up in the south.
R4, I don’t spray for mosquitoes. I hope the bats are eating them.

Grew up in CT - lightning bugs.
I lived in central PA for 20 years. So many of them, it was so cool.

I saw a bunch tonight! Just love them. I've seen one or two in the last week, but this is the first time they've really put on a show.

I grew up in California where they don't exist. At 26, I finally made it to the east coast where I saw them for the first time. They were fascinating and beautiful.
