Trump pisses off the Pope

The first U.S. bishop appointed by Pope Leo XIV has called for priests, deacons and parish leaders to accompany migrants to court and stand in solidarity with them.

[quote]Rev. Michael Pham, who was named bishop of San Diego, California, by Pope Leo in May, wrote a letter about the action on Wednesday, along with Rev. Felipe Pulido and Rev. Ramón Bejarano, both appointed by the previous pontiff, Pope Francis.

[quote]"On the morning of June 20th, which is International Refugee Day, a group of priests and faith leaders are planning to visit the federal court building to stand in solidarity with migrants who are making their court appearances," they wrote.

Just don't let the priests watch over the migrants' children, please.

[italic]PLEASE.

That is a great papal directive. Good idea Leo!

Welcome to the club!!!

Obviously Pope Leo doesn't consult his MAGAt brother in Florida when making his policy choices.

The Vatican has many buildings and much land. I hope the Pope has the generosity and charity to offer these resources to the migrants. Or else he is nothing more than a celebrity with large homes and a lot of land calling for the rights of migrants while living in pristine environments with a collection of gorgeous Italian shoes. I understand he does not own these properties but he can certainly fight for the right to house and provide for these individuals. But would he? Of course not. Why sully such beauty? Let others take it on. Just another phony Catholic.

What, did Trump say no little boys for Lents?

R5: Just another DLer who knows ZERO about the topic he professes to be on top of. The Vatican operates a four story homeless shelter built from a palace, the Palazzo Migliori next to St Peter’s Basilica in Vatican City, which is NOT part of the “much land” OP seems to think exists in the smallest (less than a half a square km) sovereign nation on earth. The Vatican also supports homeless shelters in Rome itself and in churches throughout Italy. Catholic Charities USA supports hundreds of shelters and thousands of homeless people in the US as does the Roman Catholic church around the world. More than that, OP deliberately misses the point. Rome and Chicago have roughly the same population (2.7 million people) of which 2200 are estimated to be homeless in Rome (not just within the Vatican’s 100 acres) and 68,000 to be homeless in Chicago.

Homelessness is far worse in the US than in Rome yet the US is exponentially richer than the Catholic Church. You don’t like Catholics: don’t dress it up with bullshit that’s so easily shown to be false.

[QUOTE]with a collection of gorgeous Italian shoes.

Why do you think Leo is like Benedict? Francis certainly didn't have a collection.

by Anonymousreply 8June 22, 2025 4:49 PM

He’s not the first American to piss off a pope.

R7 I have been to the Vatican There are many buildings and much land that goes unused. There is still much more that can be done and the Catholic church has the resources that are still being unused to do it. I know much about the church and their NGOs. I've made love in enough rectories and with seminarians to prove it. I guess you're a member of Dignity. Is that still a thing? What a joke.

by Anonymousreply 10June 23, 2025 12:48 AM

I’m not a Catholic. You are a bigot. I’m not interested in your sex life, just what you write.

I corrected every incorrect statement you made and you come back and say the same thing. You offer no facts, just continue to spew nonsense.

by Anonymousreply 11June 23, 2025 11:39 AM

I grew up a Catholic and therefore I know of what I speak. You know shit about Catholicism. It is a very sick religion and you are beyond stupid. I'll never forget a priest saying to me when I was very young 'The only good nun is a dead nun.' And I talk about my sex life to just point out its hypocrisy which you would know but then you are a complete dimwit. And I stand by my statement that the Pope should keep his mouth shut about migrants when the church is nothing but a money launderer for the Camora. But you know nothing about that either.
