Here is one of the most beautiful lyrics I still love, to this day, dedicated to someone, while also, dedicated to me.
What are the most beautiful lyrics you appreciate?

“Wish I knew what you were looking for, might have known what you would find.”
Damn, when I heard that, I thought that it would go perfectly at my funeral.
Never really heard the song when it came out back in the 80’s but they play it a lot on the 1st Wave station on Sirius and I truly listened to it once, and my goodness. 😢

I believe the lyrics to Stardust, an old standard, are just exquisite. Pure Poetry.
"And now the purple dusk of twilight time Steals across the meadows of my heart High up in the sky the little stars climb Always reminding me that were apart You wander down the lane and far away Leaving me a song that will not die Love is now the stardust Of yesterday The music Of the years Gone by Sometimes I wonder why I spend The lonely nights Dreaming of a song. The melody haunts my reverie And I am once again with you. When our love was new, and each kiss an inspiration. But that was long ago, and now my consolation Is in the stardust of a song. Beside the garden wall, when stars are bright You are in my arms The nightingale tells his fairy tale Of paradise where roses grew. Though I dream in vain, in my heart you will remain My stardust melody The memory of loves refrain."

It's a translation of Brazilian Portuguese, but "Someone to Light up My Life" (Jobim):
Go on your way with the cloudless blue sky above
May all your days be a wonderful song of love
Open your arms and sing of all the hidden hopes you'll ever treasure
And live out your life in peace
Where shall I look for the love to replace you
Someone to light up my life
Someone with strange little ways
Eyes like a blue autumn haze
Someone with your laughing style
And a smile that I know will keep haunting me endlessly
Sometimes in stars or the swift flight of seabirds
I catch a moment of you
That's why I walk all alone
Searching for something unknown
Searching for something or someone to light up my life

If you could read my mind love What a tale my thoughts could tell Just like an old time movie About a ghost from a wishin' well In a castle dark or a fortress strong With chains upon my feet You know that ghost is me And I will never be set free As long as I'm a ghost, you can see
If I could read your mind love What a tale your thoughts could tell Just like a paperback novel The kind the drugstore sells When you reach the part where the heartaches Come the hero would be me Heroes often fail And you won't read that book again Because the ending's just too hard to take
I'd walk away like a movie star Who gets burned in a three way script Enter number two, a movie queen To play the scene of bringing All the good things out in me But for now love, let's be real
I never thought I could act this way And I've got to say that I just don't get it I don't know where we went wrong But the feeling's gone and I just can't get it back
If you could read my mind love What a tale my thoughts could tell Just like an old time movie About a ghost from a wishing well In a castle dark or a fortress strong With chains upon my feet, the story always ends If you read between the lines You'll know that I'm just trying to understand The feeling that you lack
I never thought I could feel this way And I've got to say that I just don't get it I don't know where we went wrong But the feeling's gone and I just can't get it back

I remember being in middle school and hearing the lyrics at the end of "Throwing It All Away" by Genesis and being haunted by them:
Someday you'll be sorry
Someday when you're free
Memories will remind you
That our love was meant to be
Late at night when you call my name
The only sound you'll hear
Is the sound of your voice calling
Calling out to me
So simple but so poignant; still gives me a twinge when I hear Phil Collins sing it

r18 when I was in fourth grade, I discovered the Invisible Touch album via cassette tape. I listened to it endlessly. It felt like my first exposure to "adult music." It's obviously not the greatest album of all time and certainly marks a decline in the quality of Genesis output; but it remains one of my favorite albums for nostalgia reasons.

Overrated song and vague lyrics, but there is something about that particular lyric and the guitar in the background that just sends me to another place.

And I'd give up forever to touch you
'Cause I know that you feel me somehow
You're the closest to Heaven that I'll ever be
And I don't wanna go home right now
And all I can taste is this moment
And all I can breathe is your life
And sooner or later, it's over
I just don't wanna miss you tonight
And you can't fight the tears that ain't coming
Or the moment of truth in your lies
When everything feels like the movies
Yeah, you bleed just to know you're alive
And I don't want the world to see me
'Cause I don't think that they'd understand
When everything's made to be broken
I just want you to know who I am

Well, use me, use me 'cause you ain't that average groupie I've seen 'em dancin', to hell with romancin' She sweat, wet, got it goin' like a turbo 'Vette I'm tired of magazines sayin' flat butts are the thing Take the average black man and ask him that She gotta pack much back

When an early autumn walks the land and chills the breeze
And touches with her hand the summer trees,
Perhaps you'll understand what memories I own.
There's a dance pavilion in the rain, all shuttered down,
A winding country lane, all russet brown,
A frosty window pane shows me a town grown lonely.
That spring of ours that started so April-hearted
Seemed made for just a boy and girl.
I never dreamed, did you, any fall could come in view?
So early, early....
Darling, if you care, please, let me know--
I'll meet you anywhere, I miss you so.
Let's never have to share another early autumn.

I don't know if I'd say they're the most beautiful, but I do find them poignant.
I hurt myself today
To see if I still feel
I focus on the pain
The only thing that's real
The needle tears a hole
The old familiar sting
Try to kill it all away
But I remember everything
What have I become?
My sweetest friend
Everyone I know goes away
In the end
And you could have it all
My empire of dirt
I will let you down
I will make you hurt

Marcie dresses warm its snowing
Takes a yellow cab uptown
Red is stop and green's for going
Sees a show and rides back down
Down along the Hudson River
Past the shipyards in the cold
Still no letter's been delivered
Still the winter days unfold
Like magazines
Fading in dusty grey attics and cellars
Make a dream
Dream back to summer and hear how
He tells her
Wait for me.

Guess I wasn't the best one to ask Me myself with my face pressed Up against love's glass To see the shiny toy I've been hoping for The one I never can afford The wide world spins and spits turmoil And the nations toil for peace But the paws of fear upon your chest Only love can soothe that beast And my words are paper tigers No match for the predators of pain inside her I say love will come to you Hoping just because I spoke the words that they're true As if I offered up a crystal ball to look through Where there's now one there will be two I was born under the sign of cancer (love will come to you) Like brushing cloth I smooth the wrinkles for an answer (love will come) And I'm always closing my eyes and wishing I'm fine (I close my eyes and wish you fine) Even though I know I'm not this time (even though I know your not this time) And I say love will come to you Hoping just because I spoke the words that they're true As if I offered up a crystal ball to look through Where there's now one there will be two Dodging your memories a field of knives Always on the outside looking in on other's lives I say love will come to you Hoping just because I spoke the words that they're true As if I offered up a crystal ball to look through (I have offered up to you) Where there's now one there will be two And I wish her insight to battle love's blindness Strength from the milk of human kindness A safe place for all the pieces that scattered Learn to pretend there's more than love that matters
