YouTube has decided I love this guy and keeps suggesting videos about him, so I see a lot of his TikToks and what not. Being in my dotage and out of touch with pop music, I can't quite figure out what his deal is. I watched his American Idol audition, where he claimed he had neither sung in public or played the piano before, and then sat down and did both quite well. His TikToks all seem to be aggressively similar to what the average kid would make. The persona seems to be "regular Joe who stumbled into the music business," but it feels awfully insincere. Is it all a bunch of marketing BS, or have I misjudged an earnestly humble artist?

I like his voice (especially on that song “Cry” which is a rock song) but he’s already seeming camp at an early age. He’s parodying himself when he should be trying to be a good singer. Maybe his team knows he can’t go far.

I find him an interesting dude. He really embraces the retro look which he was not around to experience. His voice is good, some of his songs are fun to listen to and anyone who can do a back flip off a piano has talent in my book. Plus nice body and loves to show it off.

I agree that his album sounded rushed. There's a few catchy songs but the rest are just fillers and it doesn't feel cohesive.

This is an interesting idea for a show: two singers from different groups sing a duet without the other person seeing them. Then they have to guess who is on the other side of the barrier. Here two singers duet to Benson Boone, exposing his music to other parts of the world. So, if he flops here, there might be a foreign market.
