Rachel Zegler is Broadways biggest star now!

Evita may transfer to NY in 2027 because of how massive it is. It’s making tons of money and people are lined up outside to see her sing from the Balcony!

She is also in talks to star as Maria von Trapp in a new production of “The Sound of Music”

Baz Bamigboye is a name I've not heard in years.

He was always one of the "showbiz reporters" who was happy to plant stories in exchange for exclusives.

It isnt THAT popular or wanted if they "may" have a Bway run in two years.

by Anonymousreply 2June 20, 2025 8:41 PM

R2 it is.

Who cares - get rid of her.

Despite the huge amount of publicity there are still huge amounts of seats unsold. Even the cheap seats on Saturday nights.

Yes it's in one of the biggest theatres in London and a lot of those will sell nearer the time at a reduced price through the ticket agent at Leicester Square but it's far from a sell out. It may turn a profit, considering the low budget of the staging.

And Zegler may have some online fandom but being "the girl from Snow White" isn't going to make Japanese tourists buy tickets at that price when there is so much else to see.

Is Zeigler Argentinaian? Why didn't she refuse the part so someone from Argentina could take it?

I'm thrilled at the chance to do The Sound of Music the right way, finally. There's a big focus in the original on Maria's love story with a guy who is literally her boss. Weird! So we're not going to do that this time. This time Captain von Trapp will have to come into Salzburg to see Maria at her life coaching office. She will be the one who makes the determination whether he's good enough for her to take him on as a client.

Frankly, we're hoping to expunge the memory of that retrograde Julie Andrews version, where the women have so little power. In our version, Maria, the Baroness, Mother Superior, and Liesl and the other female children will leave Austria to start an independent commune in Vermont, and abandon George, Friedrich, and Kurt to Herr Zeller and the Nazis.

Why didn't they lighten her brows a bit, and slightly slightly thin them out? I mean, if they're going with the too-platinum hair, why keep the much too dark and thick eyebrows?

As it is it's way too jarring.

I saw clip of Zegler on the BBC from last month saying how amazing it was she was playing Peron, her second "latina" role in musicals after West Side Story.

But Evita wasn't Latina?!!?! She was a white woman of European heritage in the same way that Lionel Messi is a white European.

This blog post is quite something. I'm sure Zelger would agree with it entirely if it wasn't for the $$$$

At this rate, she'll be lucky to be doing dinner theater in a year.

by Anonymousreply 10June 21, 2025 11:56 AM

Her face is distracting. Yikes.

Eva Peron was of French/Spanish descent.

She was not Mestizo (mixed Indian/European) which many Latinos are.

Argentina's population is predominantly of European descent (the biggest groups being Italian, Spanish, German, French in that order) due to a large wave of immigration from Europe in the late 19th/early 20th centuries.

In the 1990s, lefties complained about Madonna's casting for the film version -- and many still do -- but she's of French/Italian descent, so the joke's on them.

Lloyd is really into leads doing curtain calls in their underwear covered with blood. Is that how Waiting for Godot will end?

[quote]She was not Mestizo (mixed Indian/European) which many Latinos are.

Sorry, that should be "Indian/Spanish mix."

by Anonymousreply 14June 21, 2025 12:27 PM

R9 she's latina. But not the type latina americans think of. For us its cultural rather than racial. Hell latin americans consider Evita more latina than Rachel Z.

by Anonymousreply 15June 21, 2025 1:01 PM

R9 as an argentine I don't think I have ever, in my life, wanted to punch a bitch as much as I wanted to punch the author of whatever that excrement was supposed to be. The ignorance, the exagerrations, the bullshit assumptions......this is what you get when you get american miopic ignorance, american race obsession and deranged woke obsessed mindset.
