Michelle Obama ‘glad’ she didn’t have a son: ‘He would’ve been a Barack Obama’
Michelle Obama says she’s “so glad” she never had a son — because he would’ve been a kiddie clone of her husband.
“You should’ve threw a boy in the mix,” radio host Angie Martinez told Obama in an episode of the former first lady’s “IMO” podcast released Wednesday.
The remark came as Obama and her brother, Craig Robinson, along with Martinez, discussed society’s view of masculinity and the challenges of raising boys and young men.

“I’m so glad I didn’t have a boy,” Obama exclaimed.
“Why didn’t you throw in a third?” Martinez said with a chuckle to the mother of two.
“Because he would’ve been a Barack Obama,” the “Becoming” author and former president’s wife quipped to laughs.
“Baby Barack — it would’ve been amazing!” Martinez replied.
“Ooh, no, I would’ve felt for him,” Obama added of the potential mini version of the ex-commander in chief.
“She just borrowed our boys,” Robinson said of his brood.
“I got plenty,” Obama, 61, agreed.

Pulling isolated quotes from conversational podcasts leave a lot of room for misinterpretation, yet the press lives for it.

I think what she is saying is that a son would have felt the weight of the world on his shoulders to live up to his father - NOT that she doesn’t like her husband.
And R6 I agree within you. But Michelle is very well versed in the grinder that is mainstream media. She should know to be extremely clear in her phrasing as to not let something like this be cherry picked and misinterpreted. She’s no novice.

R4 A lot of women hate their husbands. They’re never good enough, not even a man who becomes the President. It seemed like it was a horrible experience and she and the media tried to frame that as relatable.
But if you’re not a woman and you’re hearing her, she just sounds like a cunt.
I’m gay, I’ve been in relationships with men. They’re not that bad.

She says this stuff in jest, but rightwingers will run away with it and call her a bitter, angry black woman who hates her husband almost as much as she hates Uh‘merca.

She hasn’t raised any boys, so why is she even having a discussion about the “challenges” of doing so?

I have to say to Michelle that if she did have a boy, there are worse things he could have been than a "Barack Obama."
No matter how she meant it, she should be grateful for her husband.
He's a good man, and he was a good President.

Interesting, r21, because I was about to add a comment that I have worked with them in relation to appearances at major events (US Open, Kennedy Center Honors), etc... and I have been nearby when the two of them were pretty much totally alone (agents never far!) and they had a really nice way with each other... very protective and caring for one and other. That was the impression I got.

Michelle Obama sounds very victimized by her husband's success and popularity, as if it all came at a directly correlated personal loss to her.
Still it allows her to live in great wealth and do very white things like host a podcast! I guess she will found a bespoke dogfood company next!
