Does your place of work observe Juneteenth?

I'm a college teacher, and our library and our offices are all closed today to observe the holiday. But I think other than a few other colleges and universities we're among the only places in the Pacific NW who observe it.

by Anonymousreply 23June 20, 2025 1:32 AM

Really? It's a federal and state holiday!!!

by Anonymousreply 1June 19, 2025 7:12 PM

Yes. We observe it from our desks while we work. But please stop by the cafeteria for Juneteenth snacks!

by Anonymousreply 2June 19, 2025 7:13 PM

Federal government does. We get off.

by Anonymousreply 3June 19, 2025 7:14 PM

No.

by Anonymousreply 4June 19, 2025 7:14 PM

Yes. I work for a private company and we are off today.

by Anonymousreply 5June 19, 2025 7:19 PM

Yes we’re off, instead of MLK day lmao. Like that’s how it was phrased, “this year we’re taking Juneteenth as a holiday….instead of MLK day”. Classic lib logic.

by Anonymousreply 6June 19, 2025 7:20 PM

My school is closed. My son’s workplace is open

by Anonymousreply 7June 19, 2025 7:27 PM

My work is on summer holiday.

by Anonymousreply 8June 19, 2025 7:28 PM

I'm retired, my building staff have the day off.

by Anonymousreply 9June 19, 2025 7:32 PM

Well Helen Pixley got confused! She thought it was "Jew" Teenth and picked up some Star of David cookies at the bakery to hand out at the senior center! The colored staff were perplexed to say the least! The cookies were good they were butter sugar cookies with a blue and silver icing! Poor Helen bless her heart she meant well!

by Anonymousreply 10June 19, 2025 7:49 PM

Nope both me and my husband have work today. The only people I know who have it off are government employees.

by Anonymousreply 11June 19, 2025 8:06 PM

No one takes Juneteenth seriously, apparently.

by Anonymousreply 12June 19, 2025 10:42 PM

As opposed to classic conservative logic: "We're taking neither day off because we don't believe Black people deserve holidays."

by Anonymousreply 13June 19, 2025 10:45 PM

Or, as opposed to classic, consetvative Republican bussinessman logic, we already gave "you people" a holiday to celebrate. If ypu want another holiday, you can pick one or the other, but you sure as hell can't have both.

by Anonymousreply 14June 19, 2025 10:51 PM

The NY Stock Exchange closed in observance. I don’t know anyone who had to work today.

by Anonymousreply 15June 19, 2025 10:55 PM

Yes, we're a nonprofit and we decided to observe it starting a few years ago.

by Anonymousreply 16June 19, 2025 10:57 PM

I'm glad the restaurants and bars are open!

by Anonymousreply 17June 19, 2025 10:57 PM

Seemed like there were more people out and about in my neighborhood today. I think more people have off than most think.

by Anonymousreply 18June 19, 2025 11:08 PM

The library I work at observes all federal and state holidays so we’re closed.

by Anonymousreply 19June 19, 2025 11:11 PM

No, but every African American person in my department (6 out of 15 of us) took today and tomorrow off, as they should! Some took Monday as well-

My company is utterly corrupt and largely white. Sociopaths every where you turn, and not one black or latino person in any executive role.

They are so despicable that they stopped vacation time this year- under the guise that "it's unlimited! You only need to ask) Yeah right, as our public company's 2.8 rating on Glassdoor illuminates.

It was because vacation time/banks show as a financial liability... My company also Was going to work with the trump administration, we found out- in the area of migrant housing before deportation.

They also were just decimated in a wrongful termination (sex discrimination) suit that they wisely paid off before going to trial.

So no Juneteenth for us!

by Anonymousreply 20June 20, 2025 1:10 AM

I work for a non-profit publishing company and we had the day off along with all other federal holidays.

by Anonymousreply 21June 20, 2025 1:19 AM

[quote] Federal government does. We get off.

by Anonymousreply 22June 20, 2025 1:22 AM
