I don’t know why they award honorary Oscars to Tom Cruise and Dolly Parton yet not award them on the Oscars show.

r1, they've done this now for years. I can't remember the last person to receive the Jean Jersholt or any other honorary Oscar onstage--it must have been Blake Edwards.

Dolly is the finest of songwriters and musicians, but why would she be line for an Honorary Oscar? Her contributions to the film world have been minimal.

Yes I'm aware that she wrote "I Will Always Love You" but that does not an Honorary Oscar make.

If Helen Hunt has one for that awful performance, I'm not going to shit on these industry veterans.

Are there any leftovers? Asking for a friend.

She was the above-the-title star of several major releases, including 9 to 5, Rhinestone, The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, Steel Magnolias, and Straight Talk. That's more than James Dean.

She's getting the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award for her philanthropy.

R2 The last person to receive the Irving G. Thalberg Award on the Oscar telecast was producer Dino De Laurentis at the 73rd ceremony held on March 25, 2001.

The last person to receive the Honorary Award on the Oscar telecast was art director Robert F. Boyle at the 80th ceremony held on February 24, 2008.

The last person to receive the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award on the Oscar telecast was Jerry Lewis at the 81st ceremony held on February 22, 2009.

The first person to receive the Irving G. Thalberg Award at the 1st Governors Awards held on November 14, 2009, was producer John Calley. (The last people to receive a bust of Thalberg were producer Kathleen Kennedy and director/producer Frank Marshall at the 10th Governors Awards held on November 18, 2018; now they also receive Oscar statuettes like the Honorary and Hersholt.)

The first people to receive the Honorary Award at the 1st Governors Awards held on November 14, 2009, were Lauren Bacall, director Roger Corman, and cinematographer Gordon Willis.

The first person to receive the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award at the 3rd Governors Awards held on November 12, 2011, was Oprah Winfrey. (Though they made an exception for Tyler Perry when he was awarded on the Oscar telecast held on April 25, 2021.)

Good for them- Streisand’s philanthropy goes back to the 1960s. She’ll probably get the humanitarian award one of these years.
