DST-What happened to dumping the time change?

Trump said it would be gone.

by Anonymousreply 34June 19, 2025 8:23 PM

If you actually think anything that comes out of Trump's blowhole is worth listening to, I have some Trump mobile phones to sell you.

by Anonymousreply 1June 18, 2025 6:11 PM

It will happen! He will also turn the water into Pepsi.

by Anonymousreply 2June 18, 2025 6:16 PM

I didn't remember him saying that.

That would be the ONE good thing he could actually follow-through on!

by Anonymousreply 3June 18, 2025 6:21 PM

I fully support us stopping the insanity of switching back-and-forth. Just stay on daylight savings time year around.

by Anonymousreply 4June 18, 2025 6:54 PM

Saving!

by Anonymousreply 5June 18, 2025 7:27 PM

You’ll find it in that dusty drawer next to his vow of defending and upholding the constitution

by Anonymousreply 6June 18, 2025 7:33 PM

Look for that in the dairy aisle with the cheap eggs, hon.

by Anonymousreply 7June 18, 2025 7:35 PM

TACO strikes again!

by Anonymousreply 8June 18, 2025 7:36 PM

DST is the BEST thing we have going. Anyone who thinks otherwise is clueless as to how the US would function in Winter if it was year round and ALSO clueless about living without it March-November.

Re: the hour we gain or lose twice a year, for god's sake get over yourselves. Haven't you ever flown to Chicago or Denver or Atlanta from one time zone away? If you can't adjust, go crawl in a hole.

by Anonymousreply 9June 18, 2025 7:45 PM

R9, what's so good about it?

by Anonymousreply 10June 18, 2025 8:01 PM

r9 what is wrong with just living life by staying with one, fixed time and letting the seasons pass without trying to control everything? Whether we change the clock an hour back or forth, the days STILL get shorter in the winter and longer in the summer as the earth tilts this way and that, PERIOD. You can't control that, so why not just accept it and realize there are some things that can't be changed...and maybe don't need to.

by Anonymousreply 11June 18, 2025 9:37 PM

Most clock set themselves automatically now. DST actually makes things easier for us. Do you want to drive to work in the dark?

by Anonymousreply 12June 18, 2025 9:40 PM

Do people want to send their kids out to the bus stop in the dark?

by Anonymousreply 13June 18, 2025 9:41 PM

"Drive to work" lol

by Anonymousreply 14June 18, 2025 9:41 PM

I don't really care about "driving to work in the dark."

Also, I work from home, mostly. Even when I go into the office, it's never dark when I'm leaving to go to work.

It's not all year that kids would be going to the bus stop "in the dark." And I really thought most schools started after 7:30 these days (closer to 8 or 9am).

by Anonymousreply 15June 18, 2025 9:43 PM

I love getting up in the dark in the fall.

by Anonymousreply 16June 18, 2025 9:44 PM

R11, sorry, I misunderstood the post. I really don't know what DST is versus time change? I'm all for just keeping the clocks the same throughout the year. We've been adapting to solar change for hundreds of years. No need to change it abruptly.

by Anonymousreply 17June 18, 2025 11:04 PM

I remember when we tried it in the 1970s - it didn't work and didn't last long. We were waiting for the bus in complete darkness. I hear the arguments both ways and wish we would not change - I've often wondered why we didn't just split the difference and go with a 30-minute adjustment and stick with that year-round.

by Anonymousreply 18June 18, 2025 11:26 PM

r18 we need to just stay with one or the other and everyone needs to quit their damn bitching. Nothing's perfect. You can't stop the sun from rising and setting either.

Everyone is such a diva these days and needs everything so goddamn perfect. Oh my GOD - DARKNESS!!!! AAAAAAAAHHHHHH! Run away!

by Anonymousreply 19June 18, 2025 11:34 PM

R13 that’s the crotchdroppings’ parents’ problem. It’s not a problem for the part of the world that matters.

by Anonymousreply 20June 18, 2025 11:35 PM

[quote] You can't stop the sun from rising and setting either.

You can't stop change any more than you can stop the suns from setting.

r21 - you're not CHANGING anything, really. You're just letting the masses agree to participate in an agreement about time. And many of us DON'T agree with it.

Time is a construct anyways.

by Anonymousreply 22June 18, 2025 11:53 PM

R22, you’re reading way too much into my post. I just wanted to post a lame Star Wars quote and clip.

by Anonymousreply 23June 19, 2025 12:10 AM

Oh, whoops. Totally missed that.

Sorry, carry on.

by Anonymousreply 24June 19, 2025 12:38 AM

I just hate the winter darkness. Nothing will make it better. Leave the clock as is.

by Anonymousreply 25June 19, 2025 7:06 AM

Don't you dare give him credit for even an iota of a not bad idea, or a tiny "well at least he fixed the Daylight Saving Time" problem.

Are you a 93-year-old dairy farmer? If not, who cares about DST, anyway?

by Anonymousreply 26June 19, 2025 7:14 AM

I agree that we should stop doing the change. I'd prefer it on DST (the way it is right now) for the whole year; no turning back the clock to the "real time" in the fall.

Did Congress agree to send it to POTUS's desk? I know it got through at least one of the houses during Biden admin.

Even if Dump signs it soon, it probably won't start until fall of 2026.

by Anonymousreply 27June 19, 2025 9:37 AM

[quote] I agree that we should stop doing the change. I'd prefer it on DST (the way it is right now) for the whole year.

The sun wouldn't rise until 8:45 in December in Minneapolis (and all of Northern US) under this plan. That's untenable.

by Anonymousreply 28June 19, 2025 3:24 PM

It's on the mounting pile of ideas he's flung at the wall to see if it sticks.

It did not.

by Anonymousreply 29June 19, 2025 5:08 PM

R28 - oh shit!

by Anonymousreply 30June 19, 2025 7:26 PM

REALLY !! This is what people don't understand. The system we have now is the BEST scenario. In early March as the days start getting longer and longer we get to move our clocks ahead so that our evenings are still light. To enjoy the outdoors, sports games, BBQ's, huge savings on energy, etc. etc.

But by November, if we stayed on DST, mornings would be dark for much of the country at 7:30 and beyond that by late December. So we simply move the clocks back an hour to make sure children, commuters, etc. are safe. Standard time is only for those wintery 4 months. Savings time is for the other 8.

Those complaining about the chore of adjusting to a time change 2 times a year are just whining...

Don't mess with what works!!

by Anonymousreply 31June 19, 2025 8:10 PM

What does BBQ possess?

by Anonymousreply 32June 19, 2025 8:14 PM

R31 - I live on the west coast and honestly never realized this!

You have legitimately changed my mind about DST.

by Anonymousreply 33June 19, 2025 8:21 PM

California voted to have DST rescinded in 2018 but because it needed Federal approval, nothing happened. In other words, a completely worthless ballot measure.
