by Anonymous | reply 6 | June 17, 2025 9:37 PM |
It isn't nearly as shocking as her marrying a guy.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | June 17, 2025 9:38 PM |
Is she the hasbian?
by Anonymous | reply 8 | June 17, 2025 9:38 PM |
She definitely shocked the world when she married a dude...then this. Wow.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | June 17, 2025 9:43 PM |
R6, From TMZ:
She's survived by husband Stuart Claxton (above). The two tied the knot in 2021; they had no children, though she was stepmom to Claxton's son Javier.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | June 17, 2025 9:47 PM |
I will put good money on either suicide or drugs taken to numb her internal self-loathing. This is honestly less shocking than her “marriage” to a man.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | June 17, 2025 9:50 PM |
Wow, 55? That is very young by today's standards.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | June 17, 2025 9:54 PM |
Also from the TMZ article linked above "Burrell is survived by her four children, her brother, her sister, her mother, and her husband."
by Anonymous | reply 13 | June 17, 2025 9:54 PM |
I am actually really shocked and upset by this. I really really like her.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | June 17, 2025 9:54 PM |

The Grim Reaper better just stay the fuck away from Tabatha Coffey
by Anonymous | reply 16 | June 17, 2025 9:57 PM |
Yeah, she's just one I was used to having around. Her Worst Cooks show is a hot mess but a lot of fun. My mom and I would text about that show. She would always say "brown food is good food" and she wasn't wrong. Food Network is probably freaking out right now.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | June 17, 2025 9:58 PM |
R6 Reports seem to be VERY confused about children. As R10 mentions, she's step-mom to Javier.
But in one report about another three children, they were named as "Isabella" "Ameila" and "Lorraine." ... But Isabella and and Amelia are her two nieces. Anne has featured them them on her IG referring to them as such. And "Lorriane" is a cat she got within the last year, referring to the kitty as the "newest member of our family."
by Anonymous | reply 18 | June 17, 2025 9:58 PM |
Oh, WTF?!
She's a year younger than me...what the hell did she die from/of? I didn't hear she was sick.
I hope it's not suicide...she was a lively personality and I just can't imagine her feeling desperate enough to take her own life.
Drug overdose, perhaps? Those chefs can often be addicts. That was a terrible thing to say, but a little bit of truth to it.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | June 17, 2025 9:59 PM |
I have actually gotten friends who were hopeless in the kitchen to be at least adequate and curious in the kitchen by making them watch early seasons of Worst Cooks.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | June 17, 2025 10:00 PM |
She didn't fit the profile of a drug user or abuser. Then again, what do I know? She was way too present on Food Network to be an addict. High functioning addict, maybe? I hope her husband didn't poison her or something crazy.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | June 17, 2025 10:04 PM |

by Anonymous | reply 24 | June 17, 2025 10:23 PM |
r21 didn't Anthony Bourdain have an entire show based on him and his travels AND was an addict at the same time?
One CAN be famous/popular/functional and still be an addict or alcoholic (although there is usually an eventual fall from those heights in these cases as well).
by Anonymous | reply 25 | June 17, 2025 10:34 PM |

She had some of the best recipes I ever made.
Her tiramisu and her pulled pork sandwiches were amazing!!
Damn. 🥺

Some chef wrote “horrific and senseless tragedy” on the Food Network website. Doesn’t sound like a heart attack or any natural cause to me.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | June 17, 2025 10:36 PM |
R25, yeah, you're right. I forgot about him. I suppose she leaves behind a lot of good recipes. I made her pasta bolognese one time and it was tasty.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | June 17, 2025 10:39 PM |
I’m quite saddened by this. She and Ina Garten are really the ones who taught me how to cook more than anything else. Anne was great at not only showing the technique but the why behind it.
I’ll always remember her teaching me to let the sauce brown in the pot as that’s where the flavor is.
I know I know. Mary!!!

Yes, we were all surprised when it was revealed she got married to a MAN.
Maybe it was a "soul mate companion" kind of thing.

by Anonymous | reply 36 | June 17, 2025 10:56 PM |
At some point, Anne was engaged to a woman she was with for like a decade.
I have a VERY hard time imagining her attracted to a man. Or vice versa.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | June 17, 2025 10:56 PM |
When she wasn't asked back to host 'Worst Cooks' this past season, she must have had a wild depression. I wonder if it was suicide.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | June 17, 2025 11:00 PM |
I think she was a mess. She worked for Batali for a long time, which means that she saw (and endured) some serious shit... and looked the other way. As shocking as her death is, nothing had prepared me for the "Survived by her husband." That woman loved pussy!!!!
by Anonymous | reply 39 | June 17, 2025 11:21 PM |

Per TMZ, emergency crews responded to a call Tuesday morning after Burrell was discovered unresponsive. Paramedics were unable to revive her, and she was pronounced dead at the scene. Her official cause of death has not yet been released, and an autopsy is underway, according to officials.
In the days leading up to her death, Burrell shared a photo on Instagram where she appeared smiling and full of energy-leaving fans and colleagues even more shocked. Her absence from the 28th season of "Worst Cooks in America," which aired earlier in 2025, had raised questions. The chef herself commented on social media that she was unsure why she had been left out
by Anonymous | reply 41 | June 17, 2025 11:45 PM |
She was outed in 2012 and confirmed she was a lesbian and engaged to a woman on twitter.
Somewhere along the way she ditched the girlfriend, married a man and had 3 kids.
Yet it didn’t make as big of a stink as one would think.

Same here, RC.
Those of you saying that she was on drugs, I really don't think so.
She was way too present, vivacious, and sharp as a tack. The woman was just no-nonsense.
Anne also seemed very healthy and full of energy. So I don't think it was a health-related death.
My guess would have to be that she took her own life.
Anne really loved her job on Worst Cooks, and when they fired her from the show, it must have really devastated her. I mean, that was literally "her baby." Other FN personalities rotated as her co-host, but Anne was always the constant.
The fact that she issued a statement saying she didn't know why she was let go from the show, and that she would love to return (if possible), really spoke volumes. FN screwed her over.
RIP, Anne. She'll be missed.

Anne Burrell, celebrity chef and host of “Worst Cooks in America,” has died. She was 55.
Burrell, who got her start as a sous chef on “Iron Chef America,” died Tuesday, June 17 at her home in Brooklyn, New York. Her cause of death is not yet known.
“Anne was a beloved wife, sister, daughter, stepmother, and friend — her smile lit up every room she entered,” her family said in a statement. “Anne’s light radiated far beyond those she knew, touching millions across the world. Though she is no longer with us, her warmth, spirit, and boundless love remain eternal.”
Burrell quickly rose in popularity and became one of the most recognizable faces at the Food Network thanks to her boisterous energy and iconic platinum hair. She went on to be the host for both “Secrets of a Restaurant Chef” and “Worst Cooks in America.”
She also starred in “Chopped,” “Chef Wanted,” and “Food Network Star.” Her most recent project – “House of Knives” – premiered back in March.
“Anne was a remarkable person and culinary talent – teaching, competing and always sharing the importance of food in her life and the joy that a delicious meal can bring,” a Food Network spokesperson said in a statement. “Our thoughts are with Anne’s family, friends and fans during this time of tremendous loss.”
She was born Sept. 21, 1969 in Cazenovia, New York. After falling in love with cooking she enrolled in the prestigious Culinary Institute of America. She graduated in 1996. Following that she apprenticed at Italian Culinary Institute for Foreigners. In the early 2000s she began teaching at the Institute of Culinary Education before making the jump to TV and the Food Network.
Burrell is survived by her husband Stuart Claxon, his son Javier, her mother Marlene, sister Jane, and brother Ben.

Yes, she was taking improv classes with Second City:
[quote] But cooking wasn’t the only exciting activity Anne took part in. Earlier this month, she also invited her followers to attend her June 16 improv show with The Second City comedy school, describing the classes she had been taking in the Instagram post as “an ABSOLUTE blast.”

Andrew Zimmern, another chef, said “I hope that as time passes we learn more about this senseless tragedy.”
So my guess is not a natural cause. I’m going with suicide.

[quote] Andrew Zimmern, another chef, said “I hope that as time passes we learn more about this senseless tragedy.” So my guess is not a natural cause. I’m going with suicide.
I thought you might be reading too much into Zimmern's quote. But in reading his full quote, it does kind of sound that way, especially the way he says "we need to focus on sharing our love and admiration for all the good things she represented." Here's the full quote from Zimmern:
“I have known Anne for over 20 years now. She was my friend," chef Andrew Zimmern told Food & Wine. "She worked in NYC kitchens that I frequented and then of course through our television, nonprofit co-appearances, and food festival work we would see each other often. I was just with her several weeks ago, cooking in Puerto Rico."
Zimmern continued, "My deepest love goes out to her family, friends, and fans. At this time I think we need to focus on sharing our love and admiration for all the good things she represented and all the joy she brought to the lives of so many. I hope that as time passes we will learn more about this senseless tragedy.”

I wonder if the Food Network will do a tribute show to Anne?
I've never seen them do it before, but then again, I don't think they've had one of their high profile chefs die so unexpectedly.
Maybe even just a half hour special showing some Anne highlights, plus some of her chef friends from the network, talking about her.
I think that would be fitting.
by Anonymous | reply 74 | June 18, 2025 1:23 AM |
I hate food network.
I haven’t watched in years and don’t care to. Every time they show commercials for them, it seems they pursue the most ridiculous ideas and cockamamie, absurd competitions.
They forgot what made them popular in the first place. I guess everybody who has ever lived or will live have learned how to cook and don’t need people teaching procedures and steps to cook good food.
Fuck them. If it turns out she was depressed because they took her job away, I will never forgive that.
“Brown food tastes good!”

Food Network star, Anne Burrell, is dead. And while not much is known about her tragic passing at 55, she did have love in her life with her husband, Stuart Claxton.
Burrell married Claxton, a marketing professional, in October 2021 in a fall-themed ceremony in Cazenovia, New York, Burrell's hometown, after meeting on the dating app, Bumble.
The wedding featured a horse and carriage entrance and was attended by close friends, including celebrity chef Rachael Ray, who served as a bridesmaid.
Born in 1972 in Scotland, Claxton's career has taken him from working for Guinness World Records, where he stayed for nearly 13 years, doing ad sales for Univision. He previously spent ten years working for Guinness World Records and, in 2023, began working for NextUp as their vice president of marketing and communications.
As for the couple's private life, Burrell served as a stepmom to Claxton's son, Javier, and lived in an apartment in Brooklyn that they renovated together.
Burrell often referred to Claxton affectionately on social media, with the celebrity chef calling him her "Prince Charming" in a post celebrating their anniversary in 2023.
Burell, of course, is survived by Claxton, following her shocking death, with PEOPLE reporting that she was found dead Tuesday in their Brooklyn home.

High volume restaurant kitchens are overall pretty stressful. One of my first jobs was dishwasher at a banquet hall, scrubbing pots and pans with a ball of copper ribbon and, in between, “running the line”. “The line was a row of low shelves where I’d stack hot crockery for the line cooks to plate up with cheap steaks and entrees like chicken Parmesan (the called that entree “elephant scab”).
These crockery plates were heavy and coated with high mineral glaze to withstand the super hot, high pressure industrial conveyor dishwasher. The glasses were heavy and durable, and each night I’d have to fish a few sets of dentures out of water glasses, left by elderly diners at wedding receptions.
I remember the line cooks were rough characters. I was young and sort of preppy and clean cut, so they’d try to rattle me with some pretty dirty stories. One line chef pulled me aside to tell me some joke, when another guy, a really tall redhead came over and interrupted the conversation with “ don’t let this guy show you how to jerk off with two hands. I tried it and almost ripped it off”. There was a lot of rough and dirty talk like that.
After midnight, when it was time to “break down” the kitchen, they’d sometimes use coke to power through. We had to drag these O-ring commercial mats outside and pressure wash all the spoiled food off them. I’d slip and fall under the heavy mats and get coated with rancid shrimp shells, and everyone laughed. It was not a great summer. The neighbor’s cat would follow me into the house when I’d get home at 2 AM meowing loudly because my clothing was soaked with shrimp water and oil from the fish fryers.

Her most recent appearance on the Food Network was the competition show, House of Knives. It seemed like a big step-down to go from hosting your own show on the network to competing with other chefs to win money. She was wonderful on the show and seemed more peaceful than I've ever seen her before.
She commented that she didn't understand why she had been dropped as host of Worst Cooks. It sure seems like she was being dropped by the network.

Always found her entertaining. An uncompromising presence who gave no fucks about being likable on a network and in an era where everyone struggled to be relatable.
My fondness for her was cemented by her behavior on some cooking competition show (might have been Top Chef or Iron Chef, something like that) when when was a guest judge among other well known television chefs. The shows producers had clearly told everyone to be diplomatic in their critiques and fulsome in their praise but Anne made faces and rolled her eyes after each bite all with the thought bubble "this is shit" The other judges played ball and anything Anne said was cut out, all that remained were her facial gyrations which said it all and couldn't be completely edited out.
Just that kind of hard ass lesbian expert don't blow smoke vibe.. loved it. Surprised to learn she was married to a man.. but to each hers own.

R107 - I'd go with Cat Cora before Lofaso. The latter was married to Heavy D and had a kid. Not that that necessarily means she's straight. I've read Cora has (or had) a raging addiction . Then there's this dramatic scene she created at Alinea. Kinda classic coke head behavior
[QUOTE]On Saturday night, Cora, who was not seated, stormed out of the Lincoln Park restaurant yelling obscenities. She posted her account on Instagram on Sunday morning, criticizing Alinea and writing that the restaurant botched her reservation.
[QUOTE]A camera caught Cora extending a middle finger to staff as she exited Alinea. Cora, who was in Chicago for the International Home + Housewares Show, criticized chef Grant Achatz for not rectifying the situation and called the restaurant “arrogant” and “disrespectful.” She told staff that she knew Achatz; Alinea’s team disputes the friendship, but Cora was angry that Achatz, who was in the kitchen on Saturday, didn’t personally address the problem.
[QUOTE]“We understand that mistakes can be made but at least show your face, come and apologize to your guests,” Cora wrote in a since-deleted Instagram post.
[]Alinea co-founder Nick Kokonas, eager to defend his restaurant’s reputation, commented on Cora’s post and turned to Medium to share his team’s account of the events. He wrote Cora’s posts weren’t confirmation of her reservation. Kokonas posted screenshots showing that Cora had a confirmation for a Friday reservation and claimed that Cora didn’t like the time slot and no showed. He claimed Cora threw a tantrum on Saturday because she expected special treatment that she didn’t receive.

[R135] I’m sure Ted Allen had no idea she was pretending to be straight. Some people don’t need to come out, they are already outed by appearance and they would actually need to announce their heterosexuality because it would be so shocking. Like it was when Anne announced she was marrying a man.

[quote] Robert Irvine's Heartbreaking Message After Anne Burrell's Death
Irvine was one of the Food Network's biggest names to speak out first about Burrell's unexpected death on June 17 at the age of 55. She was found unresponsive at her Brooklyn home and could not be revived, according to TMZ. The Food Network confirmed her death in its own statement. The cause of death is not yet clear, although the initial call came in for cardiac arrest, TMZ reported.
"I am stunned and deeply saddened by the news of the passing of Anne Burrell," Irvine wrote in the emotional statement that he posted to X.
"Anne wasn’t just a fiery chef. She was a radiant spirit who lit up every room she entered. From the very beginning on Worst Cooks in America, our friendly rivalry was fueled by mutual respect: I’d risk bleaching my hair; she’d risk losing hers," he continued.
"An epic wager that epitomized her unbeatable spirit. It was a wager I ultimately lost, but I couldn’t imagine losing to a more fierce competitor. Outside of Worst Cooks I came to know her as a generous and supportive colleague and an even better friend. I’ll always remember her unwavering dedication, not just to food, but to lifting others up," Irvine added.
"She believed in nurturing culinary potential and celebrating small victories, whether in an amateur cook or on a charity fundraiser. That was Anne. Uncompromising in her standards, yet tender in her mentorship," he continued.
"To her husband Stuart, her stepson Javier, her mother Marlene, sister Jane, and her many friends and fans: please know that Anne’s warmth, vibrant spirit, and generous heart will echo in kitchens around the world and in our hearts forever," Irvine added.
"Rest in peace, Chef. Your legacy as a champion of food, kindness, and empowerment will continue to inspire. Thank you for every lesson, every challenge, and every glorious moment. You will be deeply missed and never forgotten."
by Anonymous | reply 140 | June 18, 2025 5:35 PM |
That was a lovely and thoughtful piece from Irvine.
I wonder if she had some long term sobriety and relapsed recently? She had a few setbacks, but it sounds like there was financial security. Often, in relapse, people start using at the level they quit at when they had very high tolerance. Maybe, this happened?
Or she had an old-fashioned heart attack. Post-menopausal women are at elevated risk and heart attacks tend to happen in early morning hours.

Ennui?
by Anonymous | reply 142 | June 18, 2025 6:08 PM |
Well, cardiac arrest could simply (at this point, without any definitive answers) mean that her heart wasn't beating when they found her and she'd been dead for awhile, correct?
That's why they're conducting an autopsy, right? Because they found her unresponsive, heart not beating and they were unable to revive her. The autopsy will determine WHY her heart wasn't beating when found.

R127 - I thought that too. She can do whatever she wants, but it was disappointing to see an out 'lesbian' get married to a man.
She wasn't thin and heart disease for women in their 50s is the #1 cause of death and their symptoms can be different than men's and not obvious. And yes, lower estrogen levels post-menopause makes it worse.
Small note - why is it that chefs all have these 'out there' haircuts - some of the styles are even very out of date. Like half the 'chefs' on TV shows will have haircuts that look like they're in a band from the 80s. I don't understand it.

EL did a blind item, presumably about her in 2013, on how she was publicly cheating on her then girlfriend. At that point she was starring in "Chef Wanted with Anne Burrell" and involved with Koren Grieveson.
[quote] This almost A list celebrity chef with her own show was spotted making out and then bringing back to her hotel room a woman who is most definitely not her girlfriend. She did talk to her girlfriend on the phone though while her pickup for the night was sitting in her lap.
There was also another blind item reveal on her back in 2018:
[quote] Unless you fit a very specific type, this female celebrity chef who seemingly has multiple Food Network shows rotating on a constant basis with a variety of c-hosts is probably not going to be nice to you if you approach her. Once again, Andrew Zimmern makes comments that seem to suggest her death was suicide or something else that was preventable. Maybe not, but his phrasing is curious: "How I choose to remember people," "unnecessary loss."
From his Instagram:
How I choose to remember people. Happy and laughing and believing that anything in life is possible. Sending all our love to her family, friends, and fans. An unnecessary loss is just the hardest to handle and this one really hurts. Nothing but love for all right now, especially Anne.

by Anonymous | reply 151 | June 18, 2025 8:25 PM |

As in the person chooses to remember the deceased individual for their good qualities (personality, vivaciousness, whatever) as opposed to their bad points (death caused by drug use and/or drug addiction).

She got straight privileges, ATTENTION, who knows what financial gain. 5 of the dozen or so lesbians I used to hang out with ended up with men. 1 sent a Christmas letter informing everyone of the switch and announcing her pregnancy. Another moved to Montana and married an old farmer. Whatever. But I don't know a single gay man who went straight after his early 20's

It's interesting how the media won't even acknowledge that she had been dating women before, even though she had been an out lesbian in a relationship with Koren Grieveson. Instead, the story goes that she was just too busy with her career to think about dating and marriage until her 50s:
[quote] For Burrell, the proposal was unexpected. "I mean, I am 50. It didn't seem it would be in the cards for me," she told Today. Focused for decades on her career, Burrell hadn’t prioritized marriage—until she met Claxton.

And as R160 reports, there's some kind of Spanish connection. Besides the prior job at Univsion, People also reported:
[quote] Claxton attended Swansea University, where he graduated in 1993 with a bachelor’s degree in Spanish and philosophy. He then got his master’s degree in media management in 2008 from the University of Stirling, according to his profile on LinkedIn.
Also, white page listings show that Stuart previously shared the same address as "Raquel Claxton." so perhaps she's the boy's mother. Raquel is a common Spanish name.

Alex Guarnaschelli was such a fake bitch. I watched one of her shows where she talked about making an Italian pastry called Sfogliatelle. Those things are notoriously difficult to make, hundreds of layers of flaky dough similar to a French croissant but 10 times more difficult. You need special roller machines to get the dough almost as thin as paper. Well that dumb just rolled out some dough through a pasta machine and then cut to a final take it looked nothing like the sloppy blob she put in the oven. She went down the street to an Italian deli.
To no ones surprise, the reviews were raking her over the coals because no one could make it look like the store bought ones she tried to pawn off as her own.

[quote]You need special roller machines to get the dough almost as thin as paper.
You use just a basic pasta maker to roll the dough, but it looks difficult as hell! You have to attach the rolled pasta to a rolling pin. Then pull it off the rolling pin, stretching, rolling again, and laminating it as you go. Then you cut your roll crosswise and use your thumbs and fingers to manipulate it into a cone.
I've always been tempted, but don't have the guts to try it yet.

She was a conflicted and troubled person, who obviously had issues with her sexuality. I doubt she was happy in her marriage.
Alcohol and drug abuse is the norm in the restaurant industry. So many high-profile chefs have been outed/fired for verbal and physical abuse. It's a rough business.

R180, The past machine is kind of a housewife hack, it is not wide enough, it's a lot of work and you cant get it as thin as an Italian bakery. All the places in Italy where they makes there use a special lamination machine which gives them a 2 or 3 foot wide rollers so you get a nice thin sheet.
This is how they are actually made in Italy. Still a lot of work. I respect anyone who can make these. More so than a French Croissant.

I know a woman in my building that was even younger than her dropped dead without warning. I saw here the day before in the lobby and she was asking if it was really hot in there. I just assumed menopause. Apparently I was wrong. They found her dead in the shower only after it started flooding through the floor to the neighbor below. Maybe that's why Anne was in the shower, to cool off.

On Thursday, June 19, sources told the New York Post that the beloved chef was “found next to dozens of pills.” According to the outlet, Burrell’s husband, Stuart Claxton, found her “unresponsive” in the shower of her Brooklyn, New York home.
Star has reached out to Claxton and a rep for Burrell for comment.
The Worst Cooks in America host passed away at 55 years old on Tuesday, June 17. While her cause of death has yet to be confirmed, a rep for the New York City Fire Department told Page Six that the person who called 911 (presumably Claxton) said Burrell went into “cardiac arrest” and was “DOA [dead on arrival].”
In the days leading up to her death, Burrell was out and about in the Big Apple. She was at Soho House on Wednesday, June 11, for Food Network alum Elizabeth Falkner’s “One Night Only” dinner and posted a selfie on Instagram with the Green Lady of Brooklyn (real name Elizabeth Eaton Rosenthal) on Thursday, June 12. The night before she passed, Burrell performed in a show with her improv class from The Second City New York in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.
“Everyone said she was so great last night and so happy,” a source told People.
A second insider who was with her at the performance told the publication she “was in great spirits… during and after the improv show. Typical fun, outgoing Anne, having a blast.”

There are bottles of nine different medicines, all of them pills, in my main bathroom. Hundreds of pills in all. These are my "morning meds". None of them are the "fun kind". I am addicted to them in as much as I am addicted to not dying. There are almost as many bottles of pills on my night stand. These are my "night meds". Some are repeats of the ones I have to take in the morning. I get 90-day supplies of each, so that's a lot of bottles in total.
If a non-medical person saw these, they could say I'm an addict with "tons of pills". An EMT person (as has happened before) would see them and know that I am being treated for multiple medical issues, with congestive heart failure among them. Also, the EMT would make a note of each one, or my partner would throw them in a bag and take them to the ER.
The jury is still out on this case. I do hope that she died of natural causes and did not suffer.

by Anonymous | reply 248 | June 20, 2025 2:24 PM |
R247 - there's something about that actually - I would say there's a very strong link between depression and comedians. They always say 'what happens when the laughter stops?' Getting into stand-up could be seen as a way to make herself feel better and laugh.
As far as her seeming great the last few nights - these people are personalities - they learn to turn on a switch in public. Who wants to see a depressed celebrity? Particularly as stand-up? I could see how the public expectations every time you leave the house could be a bit much.
A lot of times these 'big' personalities are cover-ups and people playing a part. But it's interesting - Anthony Bourdain just ups and hangs himself, although he was a more grouchy and cantankerous personality.
I think a lot of gays and lesbians have learned how to 'turn it on' in social situations to put people at ease and to be fun and light-hearted - just to fit in and adapt.
The pills could have been a desperate attempt to find her medications in the middle of having some heart episode or other. The presence of a lot of pills only says to me that she had more health issues than we were aware of.
by Anonymous | reply 249 | June 20, 2025 2:28 PM |

by Anonymous | reply 250 | June 20, 2025 6:28 PM |
R250 - Carol is a comedic actress, not a comedian, IMO. And she had a very difficult upbringing with 2 alcoholic parents - there's more going on than what she shows. And several of her kids had addiction issues - she had to step in as guardian recently for Erin Hamiltion.
I don't think she's a nightmare or anything, but I do think she has depression and other issues that she battles.

I worked in a lot of high-end restaurants from small independently owned gourmet types to more mainstream ones. All of them had one thing in common. Wine, coke, drugs you name it. Party time after the last patron leave and the restaurant is cleaned up.
ALL of the chefs were raging volatile screaming types, especially the men. Trowing pots and pans, screaming at waiters, etc. One of the worst offenders was when the chef go mad seeing lemon slices in the water glass with ice before they were filled. He took one of the giant oval serving trays full of about 30 glasses and pushed it over onto the floor breaking all the glass mixed with ice making everyone else clean it up. He was the owner/chef.

From all the stories I've read and all the shows I've seen, I don't understand why the back-kitchen 'culture' is so aggressive and military-like.
It feels like everyone just blindly accepts the same structures without question, then when they move up, it's their turn to hurl abuse towards the newbies.
I understand everyone has their role to play, but it seems like an outdated, negative and ultimately destructive culture. Clearly outline how things should be done - but don't make it an environment where people are scared, being abused and perhaps afraid to even ask questions.

Anne Burrell’s loved ones attended a private wake for the celebrity chef in NYC three days after her shocking death.
The small affair took place Friday afternoon on New York City’s Upper East Side, with over 100 people in attendance, including her husband, Stuart Claxton.
Celebrity chefs Scott Conant, Amanda Freitag, Marc Murphy and more came together to remember their beloved friend.
“Real Housewives of New York City” alum Kelly Bensimon and TV personality Carson Kressley were also in attendance.
A source told the Post that the mood was somber, though friends whispered to one another that Burrell would want them to be smiling and laughing.
The 55-year-old was found “unconscious and unresponsive” in her Brooklyn home Tuesday morning.
Despite the wake, a cause of death is still unknown.
However, a New York City Fire Department spokesperson told Page Six that the 911 caller believed she had gone into cardiac arrest.
Sources confirmed to The Post on Thursday that the “Worst Cooks in America” alum was discovered on the shower floor by Claxton, surrounded by dozens of pills.
The insiders noted that it is premature to speculate on whether the pills played any role in Burrell’s tragic passing.
Claxton has yet to speak out regarding the reality star’s death.
However, Burrell’s family members, as a whole, did release a touching statement on Tuesday.
“Anne’s light radiated far beyond those she knew, touching millions across the world,” they wrote, in part. “Though she is no longer with us, her warmth, spirit, and boundless love remain eternal.”
The “Secrets of a Restaurant Chef” star has since been honored with various social media tributes by Rachael Ray, Bobby Flay and more of her fellow chefs.
Burrell is survived by Claxton, whom she wed in October 2021, and his 20-year-old son, Javier.
Earlier this year, Burrell opened up to “MisSpelling” podcast listeners about her stepmom role being “the perfect amount of parenting time.”
She described meeting Claxton on a dating app in her 40s, explaining it took “so long” to get on Bumble because she was living a “rock star chef life” and wanted to “accomplish stuff” before settling down.
“I just started to feel like, ‘All right, you’re getting a little old to keep on doing this. What are we doing? Where are we going in life?’” Burrell added in the March episode.

R266 I remember my parents addressing that subject way back in the 60s and 70s when I was a kid. We lived in the Los Angeles area, and they'd often go on a 'date night' alone to some fine dining restaurant. Over the years, they got to know several chefs in the area, and while talented in the kitchen, it was like eight out of ten of them were alcoholics or used some drug and had very messy personal lives. I remember how they talked about the profession attracting substance abusers. I also had a very good fried 20 years ago who was a chef, same thing. My sister lived next door to one guy who had competed on Bravo's Top Chef. While living next to her, two of his three restaurants failed. Usually he was a very nice neighbor, but he drank like a fish and was always hiring hookers (or so it appeared). At least he had the good sense to always have uber drive him back and forth to his restaurant.

Chefs are usually people that go into that profession because they have a very strong passion for it. Very strong and people who are like that tend to be loud, aggressive and precise when people dont do exactly what they are supposed to because the Chef's name is on the line. Not to mention deadlines that last minutes or the food can be cold, angry customers, angry owners, shit pay, and if you really don't pay attention you can make people sick or even die from bad habits or mistakes. It's a high stress job, and people have died of food poising many times or burned themselves in the kitchen or cut themselves really bad its a dangerous work environment. Not like a home kitchen where you can take your time.

The service model and customer profile has changed a bit, too. I think more people self-define as “foodies” and our our appetites for personalization have grown, so I wonder if more people send food back and ask for accommodations that slow down the kitchen output and tighten profit margins.
My siblings are all pretty loaded, married wealthier spouses, and immerse themselves in food media. The bad side of that shows itself in restaurants, where they tend to menace servers with irritating feedback on each course. One of my sisters is a nightmare to dine out with because she invariably sends at least one course back to the kitchen. It’s always super uncomfortable and often performative, like a clumsy demonstration of her sophisticated palate.
I would hate to run a restaurant because the margins are tight enough, and hiring servers is super challenging because they (legitimately) get stressed out facing demanding and pushy guests (“Mmmm s’cuse me but this _____ is a little too ______”, can you take this back and bring us ______ instead? K’thanks…”).
Add to this the Yelp generation oversharing their experiences, and expectations of hyper-personalization. Restaurants are a hard way to make a buck right now, and some ridiculous percentage of them fail quickly and ingloriously. I wouldn’t want to own even a share in one, let alone one of my own.

I was wondering the same thing.
Anne had money.
And the husband has a good job.
Why is he begging for money from strangers?
Asking for GoFundMe money is so tacky, especially considering that Anne's estate could easily pay for her own funeral.

2 million estate in these time is a average house in the LA valley. Don't know where she lived, NYC I would imagine but it's not the wealth you guys make it sound like it is. Now if she had that in the bank, that would be a different story. And who know how much she owed on it. Plus she had kids. And she was a good person, helped a lot of people learn how to cook. Cant say that for a lot of the other GoFundMe whores you guys have supported.

Sometimes GFME are set up so the fans of someone can participate, show their love in the mourning process. I know it’s trashy. I am just saying it’s not set up just because someone can’t afford something. The thinking is if you’re gonna show your love, you might as well show it monetarily. Very late capitalistic America.
by Anonymous | reply 318 | June 23, 2025 11:25 AM |

This type of celebrity, “fame”that comes from nonfiction media, looks hard to transform into long term financial security. Performance fees are relatively meager except for a few who are more explicitly (and singularly) tied to a really high profile hit show. If you’re a cast member, that stature is lower and they probably move you on. Negotiating another season is really delicate.
I have always wondered about the real economics of nonfiction media. Those involved in producing it, sometimes including the talent, aren’t compensated lavishly. When a program or project “sunsets”, a lot of the onscreen talent becomes unemployable. You can end up recognizable, but secretly broke. I think that happened to many Real World cast members, Real Housewives, Next Whatevers.
You would be surprised how many really recognizable names are waiting to hear from casting agents, passing their time on Instagram and wringing their hands over the number of likes and followers. That sounds very sad and desperate.
by Anonymous | reply 321 | June 23, 2025 12:07 PM |
She may have had $2.3M but maybe her husband didn't have access to her accounts and doesn't have much money on his own. You can't get a death certificate that quickly in order to file a life insurance claim. It's also possible she was WORTH $2.3M but cash-poor.
What really struck me was when she was on Knives Out and lost the chance to win the whole thing. She, like Antonia LoFaso, hates to lose but the look on her face was shocking, at least to me. She's lost plenty of times on shows but this one seemed to hit her hard. Maybe because it felt like a slap in the face after not bringing her back to co-host WCiA.

[quote]Her husband blocked the amount, but I am curious how much he raised of his $100k GoFundMe goal.
$35 from two donations (made five days ago) is what's currently shown at the link. Presumably it was a scammer posing as Claxton, unless a misguided young relative with access to his ID impersonated him to establish the fundraiser in his name. There's no reasonable explanation for an immediate GFM; even if Burrell pissed away all their money on peroxide and pills, family or wealthy friends would've covered the final expenses. If the goal was involving fans in the mourning process, asking for donations in her memory to a particular cause is all that was necessary.

R320 Like all people do when someone dies. They find out where the funeral services are being held (really easy these days with Google and other search engines) and send the flowers to the that location.

Estate? You all sound like Donald Trump. It's her hose, not some crypto bank account. 2 million today is the equivalent to the Brady House. In fact it's less than that, before it was remolded, it sold for 3.2 million because that's the going price for a normal house in a big city. Now even if her house was paid for, which it probably was not, you cant sell a house in 3 days just to come up with funeral money.

To your point though, it shouldn't require a GFM.

2,000 is a lot of people most Americans do not have readily ava. Se was not some millionaire, she lived in NYC probably considered poor by their standards. A friend passed away in LA where I live and even with cremation, it was about 7,000 or a simple service. 55 is way too young for most people to think about having money around for funeral expenses. [quote] Plans for Anne Burrell’s final Worst Cooks season revealed weeks after her death
Food Network star Anne Burrell’s final season of Worst Cooks in America will debut in July, only weeks after her sudden death at age 55.
The new season, titled Worst Cooks in America: Talented and Terrible, will air Monday, July 28 at 9 p.m. EST. As noted in a press release from Warner Bros. Discovery, which owns Food Network, this season will mark Burrell’s final appearance as mentor. Burrell was joined by another mentor, Chef Gabe Bertaccini, to work with new chefs for the season.
In Worst Cooks in America, chefs and mentors step in to help transform amateur cooks into cooking experts. Burrell hosted the show for 27 seasons, from 2010 to 2024. However, she was absent from season 28, which aired its season finale in February.
In honor of the late chef, Food Network is planning a special Anne Burrell programming block, scheduled for June 25. The first special, which airs at 10 p.m., is a re-run episode of Guy’s Grocery Games: All-Stars and A-Lister Dinners, where host Guy Fieri has Burrell, Eric Greenspan, Jet Tila, and Marcel Vigneron collect some crazy ingredients to make a healthy lunch.
At 11 p.m., the network will show Worst Cooks in America: Worst of the Worst, which is about the top 15 worst dishes ever on the show. At 11:30 p.m., the tribute continues with Worst Cooks in America: Boot Camp Diaries, which shows the insides of the reality show’s intensive training program for new chefs.
In a statement, Betsy Ayala, Head of Content, Food, Warner Bros. Discovery, said: “Anne Burrell was a one-of-a-kind talent whose loss is being deeply felt by family, friends, and fans. With these special programming events, we hope to honor Anne and celebrate her impact on Food Network and beyond, and to offer fans a way to remember her passion and culinary prowess that ran through everything she did.”

[quote] Fans React To Food Network's Anne Burrell Tribute—'She Deserves Better'
Last week's news of beloved chef Anne Burrell's untimely passing sent shockwaves through the community. Countless celebrities and Food Network stars shared tributes to the late chef, and many of her devoted fans hit up the grocery store to recreate some of her most iconic dishes. As a longtime host and personality, the name "Anne Burrell" is practically synonymous with the network, so it's little surprise that the Food Network has announced its plans for a special tribute to the chef later this week.
"As a tribute to Anne Burrell, we’ll be celebrating her with a special selection of episodes that will highlight her extraordinary talent as a chef, competitor, and teacher. Tune in on Wednesday, June 25 beginning at 10pm ET/PT," the Food Network's Instagram post stated. The post then went on to give details about the upcoming season of Worst Cooks in America, which marks Burrell's final appearance as a mentor on the series.
However, fans were quick to express their thoughts on the planned tribute. "I’m surprised you guys haven’t been playing reruns since this happened. She definitely deserves a better time slot than 10 PM," commented one fan.
"10 PM? That's no good...Please give Chef Anne the celebration she deserves," wrote another.
"10 PM feels a bit disrespectful," one person summed up.
In addition to not being happy with what is perceived as a less than ideal time slot, fans objected what they perceived as a too-short tribute. "Anne Burrell deserves a full week not just a day," commented one fan. "She was one of a kind and she should be remembered properly."
"To be honest you could run a marathon of Chef Anne moments all week long. I’ve been a faithful Food Network fan for 20 years and this sucks," another person stated.
Honestly, it is an odd time to air a tribute to one of the network's all-time greats. Perhaps Food Network will take notice of the fans' grievances and pay proper homage to a chef who deserves it.

Hmmm, that looks like the network is milking it. Kind of dirty, it's all about pitching a show they are still trying to make money off of. What happened to everything else she did. Before Worst Cooks in America, she really made a big splash with Secrets of a Restaurant Chef. One day does seem kind of short. CNN ran Anthony Bourdain for over what seems like a year after he died. And he never even taught anyone how to cook.

Exactly.
And all this AFTER they fired her from "Worst Cooks."
It's a money and ratings grab, trying to profit from her untimely death.
Food Network is horrible.
As if we didn't know that already, considering their "star" celebrity Guy Fieri is sucking up all the oxygen on the network.
They're paying both Fieri and Bobby Flay over $80,000,000 on their contracts, but they couldn't let Anne have her own little slice of the pie.
And now they're pretending that they cared so much about her.

Two sides to every story I suppose. Seems to me that Anne was a loud-mouthed shrew at times. Food Network didn't have to do anything to celebrate her. It's probably no easy task to reschedule first-run programming for an Anne Burrell Celebration of Life (thus the later time they're going with). They COULD do something on streaming that would be a lot easier. I've seen them do that for celebrities that have died.

I don't want to believe she did this on purpose, maybe she was scrambling for pain meds or who knows. Maybe it was like the wife of Gene Hackman who also had tons of pill bottles around when she died. Maybe she didnt do so well at the comedy club improve thing she did the night before and wanted to forget about it. Everyone said she was happy that night but no one said anything about her performance.
That said, a woman I work for occasional did try to commit suicide about 6 months ago, and when I gained access to her unit, there were dozens of pill bottles scattered around we collected and threw out. She survived, months later she said she wanted to make sure it worked so she took hand full of pills of everything she had including nausea pills so she would not throw up. She ended up in a coma, but now she's back to normal.

You never know, more people have a fear of speaking in public than dying in a car accident. Not saying that is why she killed herself, but it's possible she wanted to forget about it and have a little extra and just over did it.
Food Network has been known to jerk a lot of people around. She stated off great and then they cut her show. Then they brought her back but lets face it "worst cooks in America" while popular, must have been a real downer for someone who really likes to cook and you intentionally get a bunch of losers you have to try and teach the basics to over and over again. Then she got let go from that too.

It sure seems that way sometimes. How many years has Bobby Flay been on the network? Guy Fieri? Nearly all of their star chefs are now in their mid-50s or older. The Food Network is one of those channels that you could watch one day, then wait a decade before ever watching it again, and realize that nothing has changed (except that everyone is older and fatter).

There have been several Food Network stalwarts who were the cornerstone of the network for their periods who have come and gone. [quote]What's your point?
My point R387 is that very talented people, more talented than Anne one could say, had less successful runs on the Network and recognized that these positions aren't life long and were able to transition into other projects, other networks. She was very lucky for how long she was on the network.

What's sad is that, what started as a great learning tool for people to learn to cook, is now just all about competitions and/or showcasing others who cook.
I enjoyed Secrets of a Retaurant Chef, Boy Meets Grill, Barefoot Contessa, and whatever Tyler Florence's show was called. With the advent of already prepared food delivery services, and DIYers on YouTube, you either don't need to learn to cook from scratch or are getting it from some app like TikTok, etc. All that's left now is America's Test Kitchen, Cook's Country, and Lidia on PBS.

Didn't seem very instructional to me - unlike Julia Childs. Just watching some personality follow a recipe - which hopefully 90% of the public can do anyway.

Say what you want about Food Network, it paved the way for everything you see on social media while pioneering celebrity chef culture and cooking as something anyone can do. The competitions are way too abundant (with some being better than others) these days but I still like having it around. The Kitchen is a fun show on a late Saturday morning.

R395, to each his own. Julia was pretty much before my time. I know of her and did watch some episodes of with Jacques Pepin.
I've made several recipes from Ann, Bobby, Ina, and Tyler. Between them, my mother, and maternal grandmother, I'm a pretty decent cook, IMO. Julia was doing the exact same thing; she and Graham Kerr (The Galloping Goumet) were the front runners of the current crop of celebrity chefs cooking on TV.

[QUOTE]^^ Because until the autopsy report comes back it is a logical conclusion.
Why is it more logical than an accidental OD? Isn't the latter much more common?
by Anonymous | reply 398 | June 27, 2025 7:55 PM |
R398 Yes. The CDC reports that the wide majority of deaths by drug overdose are unintentional, therefore ruled accidental.
[quote] Of the drug overdose deaths in 2022, 92.3% were unintentional, 4.5% were suicides, 3.0% were of undetermined intent, and less than 1.0% were homicides.

R399 - that's because of fetanyl and heroin. Not from pill consumption.

[quote]Guy Fieri is harmless and lovable in a bearish Pillisbury dough boy way.
Sure if you like grease ball homophobic slurs he got caught using on set. Not so much a slur as he said "those people" meaning gay, freak him out and he didn't want to be left alone in the show with them. He's also boring as fuk. His cooking style was through everything into the recipe will make it even better. And he does not even do that anymore it's all about stupid fake grocery store challenges. Who wants to watch that?

[quote] very talented people, more talented than Anne one could say, had less successful runs on the Network and recognized that these positions aren't life long and were able to transition into other projects, other networks. She was very lucky for how long she was on the network.
Actually, most of them did not have much of a careere after that. Alton brown tried to take his show on the road, that failed. Mario Batali arrested went down in a sexual harassment case, Emril Legasse closed his place in New Orleans, Paul Dean when down with a tub of butter and a side of racisim, Rachel Ray another Oprah fail hated being turned into a daytime show , Giada De Laurentis sort of holding on, Tyler Florence where did he go back to the kitchen off the air etc.
by Anonymous | reply 403 | June 28, 2025 2:23 AM |
Giada is a STAH member of the Today Show family.
by Anonymous | reply 404 | June 28, 2025 2:31 AM |
Giada was the first person that ever got a year long contract at the Food Network when they first started. That's how tightfisted they were with talent and the only reason she got that was because of her name and access to the right entertainment lawyers.

[quote]you either don't need to learn to cook from scratch or are getting it from some app like TikTok, etc. All that's left now is America's Test Kitchen, Cook's Country, and Lidia on PBS.
If you are leaning to cook for TikTok you are already cooked, your food is going to suck. It's way too short of a format to lean a skill for that.
Lidia on PBS is the biggest Italian American fraud the cooking world has ever seen. Her son is even worse of a person by most people's standards who have met him.

I was disgusted by Guy's candid photo-op with Dump last year at a boxing match.

Guy Fieri is gross. He's the main reason I hardly ever watch FN. Seems like any time I'm channel surfing and tune to FN, he's on. No thanks.

Guy Fieri is great material for Jaboody Dubs to skewer:

At least Anne was a natural blonde, compared to Fugo Fieri.

R403 my main pint was that they did not end up killing themselves over it - or need to drown out the pain so much that they inadvertently kill themselves.
by Anonymous | reply 413 | June 28, 2025 10:31 AM |
You missed a lot of great shows on cooking from aboitn1997-2011 then R395.
by Anonymous | reply 414 | June 28, 2025 10:32 AM |
I actually think they dumped Anne, to make way for more Hollywood celebs to appear on the network.
There was Valerie Bertinelli, of course.
Last year, Selena Gomez had her own FN special.
And coming soon, Octavia Spencer will be starring in Food Network's new series, 'Family Recipe Showdown.'
It's like FN is the ultimate fangurl, because Selena Gomez and Octavia Spencer are certainly no experts in cooking.
Food Network is dumping real chefs, in favor of actors, which is completely ridiculous.

Is there a Food Network competition show in which Antonia Lofaso or Maneet Chauhan are not present as a judge or competitor?
by Anonymous | reply 416 | June 28, 2025 12:03 PM |
Maneet gets on my nerves.

The L should be removed from LGBTQ. There are obviously no Ls since they all end up marrying men even after coming out or they end up re-identifying as FTM. Lesbians have always been an embarrassment to gay men.

I remember watching FN donkey years ago..."how to boil water" was one of the programs lol

They can’t pay me to watch this shit network now.
Gomez and Spencer???
Who the fuck are they that I should watch to learn how to cook? Or watch for any other reason, for that matter.
I absolutely loathe all those cooking competitions.
Who. Gives. A. Fuck. What. Chef. Performs. Better. Under. Pressure??
Lest we forget, this network started off trying to teach people. It’s too bad they moved away from that.

How many music videos are on MTV? How about Bravo?
[quote]Bravo initially focused on programming related to fine arts and film, showcasing a wide array of content that appealed to the artistic sensibilities of its viewers.
Unfortunately, networks have all devolved to base levels.

R421 And I laugh at the shit they put in a basket on Chopped. It's now become how absurd can we get?
And is there some monumental problem with having TWO ice cream machines in the kitchen for the dessert round? .. They all have their own deep fat fryer when they start.
I think I preferred ye olde "Ready, Set, Cook" back when FN first began.
by Anonymous | reply 423 | June 29, 2025 12:27 AM |
R422, you aren't lying! Just look at A&E and TLC aka The Learning Channel. There's no ARTS on A&E any more and I don't need to see Dr. Pimple Popper and other shows about freaky syndromes and illnesses all fucking day!

R425 Because they don't want it be known.
by Anonymous | reply 426 | July 2, 2025 8:45 PM |
Well, of course, it's unknown. Toxicology takes weeks, even months. Tom Petty died early October, and the toxicology report didn't come in until mid-January.

That Parade magazine article also notes:

Various places?
