What is the deal with ICE agents? Have they actually gotten worse have they always been horrible people?

I understand that they take orders from the top. At the same time, you have the question whether a person‘s values would change that much just because of a leadership change at the top. It seems like on some level, you would have to be at least nominally an asshole to even want to take that kind of a job in the first place. Really it’s the same deal as the border patrol who are harassing detaining US citizens when they re-enter the US.

They’re hiring proud boys, 3%ers, j6 terrorists, and neo nazis. I saw an ICE agent with straight up nazi white power tattoos everywhere.

You don’t join ICE out of love and compassion, you join because you couldn’t pass the psychological test to join the army or the local police department.

Op - you don't go into that line of work unless you are a certain type of person obviously.

R1 is correct that they're openly hiring and encouraging white supremacists, Nazis and MAGA types now as well on top of the previous "certain kind of person" who enjoys that type of job and having power over the less thans. Put it this way - there are no good, kind or caring people working at ICE. They are all nasty, vile cunts.

I think of them as the government equivalent of bounty hunters or repo-men. (Not to denigrate either profession, but, let's face it, they don't attract gentle, compassionate souls).

I think of them as proto secret police. If the US ever becomes a full-blown authoritarian country, the secret police will be made up of ICE and DHS goons.

The FBI and the Marshals are too professional.
