“Dept Q” - Netflix British crime series - Solving cold cases in Edinburgh - And so much more
Has a little of everything - Hunky Matthew Goode looking like he’s sleeping rough, your favorite recognizable Scottish actors and those lovely Scottish accents, mysterious characters and suspects everywhere, a dedicated squad of misfits, and a Missile Silo.
Based on a series of Danish Nordic noir crime novels by Jussi Adler-Olsen, known as 'Department Q' (Danish: Afdeling Q).

Steven Miller has the juiciest tatas, I had no idea they were hiding such jewels up in Scotland.
Shame he shaved his chest, I'd like to see him in his full glory.

[quote]From the Alexej Manvelov thread:
Steven Miller - he of the incredible body (any screen captures?) - also plays Reverend Alan Calder, the brother of DI Ruth Calder (Ashley Jensen) in ’Shetland’. And ‘Dept Q’ gay copper Colin Cunningham played by Angus Miller, also appears in ’Shetland’ as Donnie Russell (husband of Tosh).
A growing Scottish cabal of good actors to rival the British cabal.
(Stay away from IMDB on 'Dept Q' if you haven't finished the series. There's a rather usually innocuous entry that gives away a plot point.)

I missed the missile silo. Spoiler?
Spoiler?
There is the tanker at port. Or warehouse on a dock. Where is the missile silo?

Look how much better he looks here. He needs to lose the porn stache and steal that wig from the set.

Listened to The Watch podcast interview with Scott Frank from last week. Couple of bits I found interesting:
- He said he got the rights from the author 15 years ago because Adler-Olsen wasn't happy with their Danish adaptations. He sat on them all this time, until the author contacted him again a couple of years ago, asking him if he intends to do anything with them.
- His friend Tony Gilroy (Andor) told him to do it with less backstory next time, but Frank insists you need all that for the emotional payoff when all those ghosts are visiting her at the end.
- He said he had always found Goode too posh for the role, until he met him for the first time and he was hungover and wearing a leather jacket. He then bombed his audition, but was asked back for another shot at it. It was between him and DL fave Jeremy Renner. (Can you imagine?)
- Netflix hasn't approached him yet for a possible second season.
- He's doing the Red Harvest adaptation next.

Oh thank God Renner wasn’t in this. I’d have had to skip.

It was fun but annoyingly implausible at the end, as though phones had never been invented or police never call for backup. For a show that is supposedly focused on human relationships, it became too plot driven and dependent on twists.

I can't watch anything with Renner in it, I just can't with that potato face. I bet the execs were pushing him, thinking he'd be great for the ratings.
And what, he'd play a Yank detective who somehow gets his own department in Scotland (as if!) and then we'd be subjected to endless American jokes? Or, as an even more terrible alternative, he'd put on a posh British accent? File this one under Seconds From Disaster.

^^^ My partner thinks it's primarily because I liked the characters. I think he may be right.

Which is a pretty damned good reason.
