Most famous for originating the role of Felicia in the West End production of Priscilla. A truly hot bitch back in the day and a ridiculously handsome man now.
[quote]I was lucky enough to play some amazing roles in some amazing shows but the one people ask and talk most about is Priscilla Queen of The Desert. It is only now, years later, that I realise what an impact the show had on the people who saw it, the shows being made and stories being told today, and my own life.
[quote]I am so proud that this became a gateway musical for other shows that came after, where drag and stories about queer people are given centre stage. It was a trailblazer of a musical way back in 2009. It proved that our stories can be theatrically commercial and in a landscape where macho men and cis juve-leads were the roles I had to shape shift into, this show gave me, and the many actors beyond who identify as LGBTQ and gender queer, room to be ourselves and see ourselves represented.
[quote]I have been on a long journey with my gender identity. I grew up at a time where we didn’t even have words for the spectrum of gender that we are going some way to recognise today. We were, and always have been, there but without the words and representation, I found it impossible to explore this aspect of myself and subscribed to making myself as cis male, and straight acting, as possible. I still celebrate the person that experience turned me into. On the spectrum, I sit comfortably towards a cis presenting, preppy looking, Sloane toting person and I look forward to embracing roles that align with my authentic self… but I have had to do the work on figuring out that I am non binary. To feel complete and at peace with myself, I acknowledge that I sit on that messy gender spectrum, which only I can define. My pronouns are He/They.
[quote]Playing Felicia allowed me to crack the door open, just a tiny bit, so that I could discover so much more about myself and I am eternally grateful… and it was also just a brilliant show!
A reminder: being an insatiable bottom does not make you less of a man!
