How are you cunts going to properly honor her?

I think I'll watch the episode of "Tabitha" where she plays a heretofore unknown witch named Cassandra.

by Anonymousreply 7June 14, 2025 1:00 AM

R6. Bitch, she was doing those parts while you were still a baby dyke.

by Anonymousreply 8June 14, 2025 1:09 AM

She would show up on Match Game during the 1970s.

by Anonymousreply 9June 14, 2025 1:23 AM

I'll tell "Stop the bus! Sister, stop the bus" at my bus driver tonight, in her honor.

by Anonymousreply 10June 14, 2025 1:26 AM

^yell

by Anonymousreply 11June 14, 2025 1:26 AM

by Anonymousreply 14June 14, 2025 2:30 PM

OP, I suspect you're a treasure.

by Anonymousreply 15June 14, 2025 2:34 PM

[quote] She would show up on Match Game during the 1970s.

I don't think Brett Somers cared for her.

by Anonymousreply 16June 14, 2025 3:07 PM

Mary died at 85 in 1995. Never married.

by Anonymousreply 17June 14, 2025 3:17 PM

She never married? Was she a Lebanese?

by Anonymousreply 18June 14, 2025 3:23 PM

Happy Birthday Mary!

by Anonymousreply 19June 14, 2025 3:27 PM

A penguin bit me!

by Anonymousreply 20June 14, 2025 3:34 PM

I recall her appearance on Sigmund & Sea Monsters.

by Anonymousreply 22June 14, 2025 3:59 PM

We are all going to die.

by Anonymousreply 23June 14, 2025 4:04 PM

R21 I was in it, too, you bitches!

by Anonymousreply 24June 14, 2025 4:07 PM

R18, possibly devout Lesbyterian.

by Anonymousreply 25June 14, 2025 4:30 PM

Watching the lemon party lesbian porn film she did with Billie Bird, Nedra Volz, Judith Lowry and Zara Cully.

by Anonymousreply 26June 14, 2025 4:30 PM

R18 I think it was confirmed sometime ago that she was of the lesbian persuasion.

by Anonymousreply 27June 14, 2025 4:31 PM

Betty White did not approve of her muff diving.

by Anonymousreply 28June 14, 2025 4:34 PM

Oh, go on and cry. You'll pee less.

by Anonymousreply 29June 14, 2025 4:52 PM

She was quite worn out by the time Postcards came out.

by Anonymousreply 30June 14, 2025 6:00 PM

Was it Hayely Mills who said after doing a scene with Wickes on The Trouble with Angels? Why does her face always smell like pussy?

by Anonymousreply 31June 14, 2025 6:12 PM

She never married? That's odd. I saw her on Tattletales a few weeks ago. I didn't watch the whole thing so I wonder who the guy was.

by Anonymousreply 32June 14, 2025 8:53 PM

I recently watched the episode of Dennis the Menace where she and Alice Pearce’s character hilariously vie for the love of the local cop.

by Anonymousreply 33June 14, 2025 9:04 PM

This Mary Wicks Birthday thread is a nice change of pace after the collapse of democracy by Fascist & Friends.

by Anonymousreply 34June 14, 2025 9:25 PM

by Anonymousreply 35June 14, 2025 10:21 PM

R32 On "Tattletales," Mary Wickes' male partner was Christopher Connelly. They appeared together during a week in 1974. He was married to a woman.

by Anonymousreply 39June 14, 2025 10:36 PM

R38 God Bless, Reta. Never lost her South Paris, Maine accent.

by Anonymousreply 40June 14, 2025 10:39 PM

r40 Or the 50 extra pounds.

by Anonymousreply 41June 14, 2025 10:43 PM

Reta was also a witch on "Bewitched."

by Anonymousreply 42June 14, 2025 10:49 PM

In Steve Taravella’s biography of Mary Wickes (“Mary Wickes: I Know I've Seen That Face Before”), he devotes a chapter (“Not an Ounce of Romance”) to the question of Mary’s sexuality. He interviewed many people who knew and worked with Mary. There was no strong evidence that she had any sexual relationships in her life.

Mary lived with her mother throughout her mother’s life and became “single” in mid-life. She had many gay male friends, and she acknowledged and included the partners of those that had them. She was also of course great friends with Lucille Ball.

The core of the issue seemed more that although Mary was a great friend and companion of many people, she was unable to form intimate relationships with anyone of either sex.

Some friends said that Mary occasionally expressed her loneliness when she was going home from a social get-together, but they also said she never was able to do anything about it. Most of the time, Mary would say she loved her life as it was.

by Anonymousreply 43June 15, 2025 12:06 AM

Lucie Arnaz believes she was a dyke who didn’t act on it. I know it’s a stretch.

by Anonymousreply 44June 15, 2025 2:00 AM

Mary hated kids. She treated the Arnaz kids like they were unlovable. They don’t have many good things to say about her. They also said that Lucy basically felt sorry for her. She kept all the letters celebrities sent her. Mary’s stuff was auctioned off. It was quite sad. She had no life.

by Anonymousreply 45June 15, 2025 2:02 AM

Who, if anyone, is the Mary Wickes of today?

by Anonymousreply 46June 15, 2025 2:20 AM

MARY!

by Anonymousreply 47June 15, 2025 2:49 AM

R45, to be fair, the Arnaz kids, especially that Lucie were unlovable...

by Anonymousreply 48June 15, 2025 3:14 AM

Wow. Did not see that coming.

by Anonymousreply 49June 15, 2025 3:19 AM

And on her birthday…

by Anonymousreply 50June 15, 2025 3:20 AM

Let me guess-Rita Shaw ALSO never married AND had no children-right?

by Anonymousreply 51June 15, 2025 3:27 AM

Those gay actresses apparently had difficult lives but they were truly talented and made us laugh.Nancy Kulp also comes to mind. I’ve heard some comedy legends say things like ‘’ All my life I just wanted to make people laugh’’ maybe that was good enough for some of them.

by Anonymousreply 52June 15, 2025 3:34 AM

Well, that and get some sweet Palm Springs pussy.

by Anonymousreply 53June 15, 2025 3:47 AM

Mary Wickes was an actress audiences knew by sight but not name. I saw her do Wonderful Town in LA (not Ruth or Eileen obviously) and when she made her entrance, the entire audience delightedly went "Ohhhhhhh".

by Anonymousreply 54June 15, 2025 3:55 AM

She was the villain in White Christmas and that is a hill I’ll die on. I’ve watched that movie once a year for the past six decades, and every time I have to question aloud why she didn’t get any comeuppance.

by Anonymousreply 55June 15, 2025 4:01 AM

St. Mary of Wicks -maybe the Chicago Pope will canonize?

by Anonymousreply 56June 15, 2025 4:04 AM

Chicago Pope-is that still,on?

by Anonymousreply 57June 15, 2025 4:05 AM

She wasn’t the White Christmas villain she just mis-heard a phone call and relayed it to George Clooney’s aunt.

by Anonymousreply 58June 15, 2025 4:09 AM

She put up with Bette Davis, she should have a Purple Star.

by Anonymousreply 59June 15, 2025 4:34 AM

With Lucy and Lucie.

R51. RETA!

by Anonymousreply 61June 15, 2025 5:16 AM

Mary Wickes was a lifelong Republican.

by Anonymousreply 62June 15, 2025 7:01 AM

R62 Republicans then don't resemble Republicans today at all.

My mom was a lifelong Republican and would be appalled by what's happened to the party today. She would have denounced them.

by Anonymousreply 63June 15, 2025 11:35 AM

I always think of her as the nurse on the TV show Doc as the role I remember her most for.

R32 Tattletales once had Fannie Flagg and Charles Nelson Reilly as a couple, too.

by Anonymousreply 65June 15, 2025 11:49 AM

But not as a couple themselves.

by Anonymousreply 66June 15, 2025 11:54 AM

R66 Well, obviously.
