Move over, Miss Close - Nicole Scherzinger being discussed for 'Sunset Boulevard' movie

Glenn Close, the 'Sunset Blvd' train might leave the station after all, but you won't be boarding it after 25 years of lobbying for it. It looks like with the new success of the musical's revival both on Broadway and The West End, star Nicole Scherzinger is the one boarding the train - and she's manifesting this dream right now.

"I'd love to do it all. I'd love to do some interesting films, some really bold, daring roles. I'd love to do a movie musical, obviously. Still waiting for someone to do Sunset Boulevard the movie musical with me. Music, still. I wanna just do stuff that shows all of me and continue to do singular stuff like this show is."

Scherzinger recently said that there has been "some talk" of a Sunset Boulevard flim adaptation, stating: ""That is my dream, so I’m manifesting that right now."

Isn't she still a bit young to play an over the hill Hollywood star? I mean, 46 isn't exactly "young," but it's not exactly ancient, either.

by Anonymousreply 1June 13, 2025 9:23 PM

Glenn is too old at this point in her career. R1 Nicole is actually early to mid 40s.

by Anonymousreply 2June 13, 2025 9:24 PM

Gloria Swanson was only 50 when she starred in the movie, so I guess Nicole is just about the right age. She just doesn't really "look" the role.

by Anonymousreply 3June 13, 2025 9:25 PM

It must suck for Glenn - too old to play an old movie star.

by Anonymousreply 4June 13, 2025 9:26 PM

Glenn Close was 47 when she took the stage, while Lupone was 44. Make-up can make you look a little older, probably easier than making you look younger.

I'm wondering if this will be a cinematic release or a Netflix / HBO release.

R2 Nicole turns 47 in two weeks.

by Anonymousreply 5June 13, 2025 9:26 PM

Glenn would have been fine in the movie circa 2000, but Nicole would definitely be more apropos now.

by Anonymousreply 6June 13, 2025 9:27 PM

So does this mean Barbra's too old to do GYPSY at 83 ?

by Anonymousreply 7June 13, 2025 9:28 PM

Glenn could still pass for forty, so these excuses don't really add up.

Ageism strikes once again. This was supposed to be the vehicle that finally got Glenn her oscar. To have it snatched away on the one yard line is beyond cruel.

Not happy with this news. At all.

by Anonymousreply 8June 13, 2025 9:29 PM

You think Glenn close could pass for someone born in 1985 R8?

by Anonymousreply 9June 13, 2025 9:30 PM

[quote] Glenn could still pass for forty

In dog years, maybe.

by Anonymousreply 10June 13, 2025 9:31 PM

That is NOT a big screen face.

by Anonymousreply 11June 13, 2025 9:31 PM

R6 when the movie project was really 'heating up', it was in 2004-05. That's when ALW's list leaked out of who he wanted to play Norma - Barbra, Meryl and Glenn (in that order). Barbra had said the 'project' she was sent needed a lot of work and was no where near ready to go in front of the cameras (ALW disagreed), while Meryl wasn't too excited about doing it. Close was most interested, and ready for it - but then it kept stalling at Paramount. (In the meantime, David Gest was telling everyone that his wife Liza was 'thisclose' to signing the contract to do the movie, unbeknownst to all involved).

by Anonymousreply 12June 13, 2025 9:32 PM

Can't carry a movie

And her implants look so fake in that picture

by Anonymousreply 13June 13, 2025 9:34 PM

Michelle Pfeiffer would’ve been a great choice. Didn’t ALW at one point want Madonna for Norma?

by Anonymousreply 14June 13, 2025 9:35 PM

HA! HA!

by Anonymousreply 15June 13, 2025 9:35 PM

Nicole might be a good choice for the movie, but not for at least 5 years. She’s still too young looking. Put it this way - she’s younger than Kate Winslet and Kerry Washington.

I also suspect that she can’t act for the screen.

by Anonymousreply 16June 13, 2025 9:36 PM

I would love to play a role like that. Unfortunately, I'm far too young.

by Anonymousreply 17June 13, 2025 9:36 PM

R14 If Madonna could act, she'd be the perfect physical type for the role. A delusional, aging hag, so desperate to hold onto to her youth that she's butchered her face into an unrecognizable horror show.

by Anonymousreply 18June 13, 2025 9:38 PM

Sounds like Nicole is just "manifesting" her wishful thinking - that there's actual discussion of her for a Sunset Boulevard movie.

by Anonymousreply 19June 13, 2025 9:40 PM

A Sunset Blvd. movie musical with aged Nicole would bomb as badly as JLo in Kiss of the Spider Woman. They are both delusional.

ALW's movie musicals have all flopped. He doesn't translate to the big screen.

by Anonymousreply 20June 13, 2025 9:41 PM

Although Gloria Swanson was just 50, 50 was really old back then. The movie wouldn’t make sense to anyone with someone who looks as young as Nicole

by Anonymousreply 21June 13, 2025 9:45 PM

Maybe it’ll be as great as that Cats movie!!

by Anonymousreply 22June 13, 2025 9:45 PM

I think Glenn Close would make more sense nowadays

by Anonymousreply 23June 13, 2025 9:45 PM

Too young, not white, the entire thing is ridiculous but I knew this was going to happen.

by Anonymousreply 24June 13, 2025 9:47 PM

What year is this thing supposed to be set? Wasn’t she supposed to be a star in the 1910s? How many non-whites were there? It makes no sense. On stage you can get away with it but on film where people want things to make a modicum of sense, this doesn’t work.

by Anonymousreply 25June 13, 2025 9:49 PM

The stage version, and her performance, only worked if you took nothing literally and turned off any cerebral functioning. Unlike her costar, she hasn’t shown the acting chops to play the role outside of Jamie Lloyd’s construct. This sounds like a recipe for a Hollywood flop.

by Anonymousreply 26June 13, 2025 9:52 PM

R13 We don’t know yet because she has never starred in one. I feel like she’s building momentum because of the success of the Broadway musical. Because of tik tok, her connection to this project is popular among the general public.

by Anonymousreply 27June 13, 2025 9:56 PM

Nicole is half white and I feel like can present Anglo white with the right makeup and contouring and wig.

by Anonymousreply 28June 13, 2025 9:57 PM

Starring Glenn Close, but with her voice dubbed by Nicole. It would serve her right.

by Anonymousreply 29June 13, 2025 9:58 PM

It’s bad enough this boney Pussycat Doll MAGA bitch won a Tony over the Queen of Broadway Audra McDonald who made Tony history with that absolutely riveting and already legendary performance of “Rose’s Turn” at the awards ceremony last Sunday. Now they’re considering this ho for the screen version of Sunset Boulevard? I really hope that doesn’t happen.

Glenn Close is aging very well and would still be a great choice for the part. Michelle Pfeiffer would also be a great choice.

by Anonymousreply 30June 13, 2025 10:01 PM

If I'm so great, r10, why not me?

by Anonymousreply 31June 13, 2025 10:03 PM

R2, you do know you are typing on technology that could tell you Nicole's age.

by Anonymousreply 32June 13, 2025 10:06 PM

I could see Glenn Close as Hedda Hopper. Perhaps they could persuade Weber and Don Black to expand the part and pen a song for that character?

by Anonymousreply 33June 13, 2025 10:18 PM

I thought a provision of Glenn originally signing on to do the show was her contract stated she would appear as Norma in any film/TV version.

That’s what’s made any film version so cumbersome to develop (?)

by Anonymousreply 34June 13, 2025 10:25 PM

it gaga can keep her chops for another decade she can play Norma. Cheesy vehicle for a cheesy but talented star.

by Anonymousreply 35June 13, 2025 10:45 PM

"I'm manifesting that right now"

Barf. Every time this woman opens her mouth, some inane crap falls out. I thought God did everything for you honey?

I don't think Hollywood is going to want to chance a big production with a 47 year old newbie - but weirder things have happened.

by Anonymousreply 36June 13, 2025 10:54 PM

[quote] Too young, not white, the entire thing is ridiculous but I knew this was going to happen.

She’s in the same age range as Lupone, Close, Buckley and Paige were when they first played Norma.

CZJ would be great, Nicole Kidman can sing.

by Anonymousreply 37June 13, 2025 10:56 PM

But can Nicole Scherzinger smell nappy pussy?

by Anonymousreply 38June 13, 2025 10:57 PM

nicole Kidman can't handle the closeups

by Anonymousreply 39June 13, 2025 10:59 PM

Why not Audra?

by Anonymousreply 40June 13, 2025 10:59 PM

Has Audra ever sung anything from SB?

by Anonymousreply 41June 13, 2025 11:05 PM

Will this be like Chicago where everyone just wanders around in black negligees?

by Anonymousreply 42June 13, 2025 11:07 PM

R37 - I agree - Catherine Zeta Jones would be a great choice. They'll have to try hard to convince her to do that part considering she's 39 years young.

by Anonymousreply 43June 13, 2025 11:13 PM

The "loosen up my buttons" chick??

by Anonymousreply 44June 13, 2025 11:16 PM

[quote]You think Glenn close could pass for someone born in 1985 [R8]?

Good Lord, Glenn Close is ancient.

In Fatal Attraction, one of the plot elements was that her character was aging, and the unexpected pregnancy might be her last chance at having a kid. That was 1987.

by Anonymousreply 45June 13, 2025 11:19 PM

R40 - I believe it requires an aging beauty, someone who you can see used to be stunningly beautiful. That's why Patti Lupone was never going to work.

by Anonymousreply 46June 13, 2025 11:21 PM

Good for Nicole

by Anonymousreply 47June 13, 2025 11:36 PM

Yeah r44 I didn’t know she could actually sing either. I wonder if any of the other pussy at dolls can

by Anonymousreply 48June 13, 2025 11:36 PM

[quote] Gloria Swanson was only 50 when she starred in the movie

Being 50 today is very different versus the 50s. The inflation calculator states that 50 in 1950 is the equivalent of 70 today.

by Anonymousreply 49June 13, 2025 11:39 PM

And an 8 inch dick today was a 10 inch dick in 1950. reverse inflation.

by Anonymousreply 50June 13, 2025 11:56 PM

[quote] Being 50 today is very different versus the 50s. The inflation calculator states that 50 in 1950 is the equivalent of 70 today.

Exactly. Swanson’s Norma was vain about her body and her health but she couldn’t hide the ravages of time if she wanted to. Today, 50 year old Hollywood actresses are still very attractive by any standard. Cosmetic procedures, exercise and nutrition protocols are just exponentially better.

Unless they are unlucky Meg Ryan or Nicole Kidman and their face doesn’t handle plastic surgery well, they’re probably still sexy and beautiful. Look at Jennifer Connolly, Halle Berry, Naomi Watts, Angela Bassett. Ditto the “girls next door” types like Julia Roberts. Jennifer Aniston and Sandra Bullock.

Imagine telling a washed up 30 year old writer he has to squire around Charlize Theron or Eva Mendes. His bros would be jealous af.

by Anonymousreply 51June 14, 2025 12:39 AM

The dialogue in both the movie and the musical makes it clear Norma is only fifty:

JOE: "There's nothing tragic about being fifty--not unless you try to be 25."

by Anonymousreply 52June 14, 2025 12:44 AM

[quote]R52 JOE: "There's nothing tragic about being fifty--not unless you try to be 25."

Classic, clueless mansplaining

by Anonymousreply 53June 14, 2025 1:00 AM

R30. Please stop. I never listened to Ms. McDonald and her cast recording of Gypsy, but watching the Tony performance, I thought it was embarrassing with her affect and "Bojangling" across the stage with those facial expressions.

by Anonymousreply 54June 14, 2025 1:04 AM

R54, you can have an opinion, but you are extremely stupid if you think your opinion means anything if you didn’t see the actual performance. I’m sorry that life didn’t allow you the opportunity, but maybe you should just keep your mouth shut.

by Anonymousreply 55June 14, 2025 1:21 AM

[quote]ALW's movie musicals have all flopped. He doesn't translate to the big screen.

R20 You couldn't be more wrong....

Andrew Lloyd Webber's "Jesus Christ Superstar" grossed $24.5 million ($161.3 million in 2022) at the box office and earned North American rentals of $10.8 million ($71.1 million in 2022) in 1973, against an estimated production budget of $3.5 million. It was the highest-grossing musical in the United States and Canada for the year.

by Anonymousreply 56June 14, 2025 1:26 AM

[quote]JOE: "There's nothing tragic about being fifty--not unless you try to be 25."

You do realize that line can be tweaked to make it work for an older actress in the role, don't you ? That's why they hire screenwriters.

by Anonymousreply 57June 14, 2025 1:47 AM

R55 = Kecia Lewis

by Anonymousreply 58June 14, 2025 1:54 AM

R58 speaks lousy French and reads book reviews like they was books.

by Anonymousreply 59June 14, 2025 2:00 AM

Glenn Close must be rip-shit. She fought long and hard for at least 20 years to get this film made (even ALW credited her for being relentless and not giving up the fight) only to be dropped and have Scherzinger take the movie from her ?

I guess while she was fighting, she forgot all about manifesting.

by Anonymousreply 60June 14, 2025 2:01 AM

R56 - meh - it was a new concept at the time and the country was more religious. I doubt that POS would do very well today. It sucks.

by Anonymousreply 61June 14, 2025 2:02 AM

Glenn Close introduced Nicole on the Tonys

by Anonymousreply 62June 14, 2025 2:03 AM

Never forget, Nicole is MAGA>

by Anonymousreply 63June 14, 2025 2:06 AM

She certainly made awards great again on Sunday, r63! Thanks for the reminder!

by Anonymousreply 64June 14, 2025 2:07 AM

She is a Trump Supporter.

by Anonymousreply 65June 14, 2025 2:09 AM

R60 another twat DL with zero reading comprehension. No movie has been offered to Miss Scherzinger.

by Anonymousreply 66June 14, 2025 2:19 AM

Trump Supporter = doesn't give a fuck about other POCs or gays.

Supposedly she said her post doesn't reflect her political views - but bitch, how come you're following all these Trumpers and right wingers that you are liking and hearting their posts?

She's a liar on top of everything, wrapping herself in her Christianity as some supportive, moral person. Makes me want to barf.

Cole Escola had her number when he said 4 more years - but he walked back the comment yesterday I believe. I don't think he meant it. He said "oh I mean she's going to be on Broadway for at least four more years" - huh? Nice try Cole - but we all know. And it's OK.

by Anonymousreply 67June 14, 2025 2:21 AM

Is Ben Platt age appropriate for the role?

by Anonymousreply 68June 14, 2025 2:23 AM

R61 But it was still a box office hit movie based on an Andrew Lloyd Webber stage musical, which you said has never happened. Once again, you were wrong no matter how you want to make excuses for its success some 50+ years later.

by Anonymousreply 69June 14, 2025 2:24 AM

I love that she's suposedly a Christian... after hawking as much of her tits and ass as she possibly could with the Pussycat Dolls!!

by Anonymousreply 70June 14, 2025 2:31 AM

R52, I saw Sunset Blvd. last night and they changed the line to “there’s nothing tragic about being 40–unless you’re trying to be 20.” The Norma of the revival is younger.

by Anonymousreply 71June 14, 2025 3:10 AM

Ugh, I’ve already had enough of this cunt.

by Anonymousreply 72June 14, 2025 3:16 AM

R55. Can you not read? I saw the Tony performance. If that was a history making performance, as you claim, then what she does during the actual Gypsy show on Broadway must be God awful.

by Anonymousreply 73June 14, 2025 3:57 AM

FWIW Nicole doesn’t say she has the movie yet. She is saying she wants it.

She is still pissed that ALW gave JHud CATS instead of her.

I still think that if she could act on screen, we would know by now.

by Anonymousreply 74June 14, 2025 4:03 AM

R28 is blind.

by Anonymousreply 75June 14, 2025 4:05 AM

She’s a MAGA cunt. Fuck her.

by Anonymousreply 76June 14, 2025 4:06 AM

The odd thing about that production of Sunset is that Norma is attractive. Better looking than Betty. In the movie I believe Betty is sort of horrified that Joe is sleeping with such an old hag.

by Anonymousreply 77June 14, 2025 5:16 AM

“Evita” the movie was a moneymaker too.

by Anonymousreply 78June 14, 2025 6:41 AM

R56, it was filmed in the Israeli desert with a bunch of nobodies!!

by Anonymousreply 79June 14, 2025 10:51 AM

Glenn Close will be lucky to get a card-playing cameo in this film next to the corpse of Buster Keaton.

by Anonymousreply 80June 14, 2025 10:52 AM

R67, I thought the “four more years” comment was just in relation to the intensity of interest between the nominees Audra and Nicole. Didn’t realise it was an explicit MAGA reference.

by Anonymousreply 81June 14, 2025 10:54 AM

[quote]I believe it requires an aging beauty, someone who you can see used to be stunningly beautiful.

This sounds like a role for Sharon Stone.

by Anonymousreply 82June 14, 2025 11:11 AM

R56 If you have to go back 52 years to find a successful film adaptation of an ALW musical, I'm gonna have to side with R20 and say ALW's musicals haven't really been box office successes overall.

by Anonymousreply 83June 14, 2025 11:19 AM

R79 Fuck you! I was in it, and I became one of the biggest porn stars of all time!

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 84June 14, 2025 11:26 AM

I don't know about a movie but there has been a lot of talk about the current production being filmed for cinema/streaming release.

Apparently there is a theatre in London booked for the filming when the Broadway run ends.

by Anonymousreply 85June 14, 2025 11:53 AM

R41, the only ALW song I can think of that McDonald has ever sung since becoming famous is "Love Changes Everything," which she did in the MY FAVORITE BROADWAY: THE LEADING LADIES concert way back in 1998. (We all know she played Evita as a teenager.)

by Anonymousreply 86June 14, 2025 12:38 PM

R83 I'll make it a little easier for you to understand:

Four of ALW's stage musicals were made into movie musicals for the silver screen. One was released in 1973, one was released in 1996, one was released in 2004 and one was released in 2019 - but I'm not sure why the release dates would matter on their box office success or failure.

Of those four, 2 were box office hits, and 2 were box office flops. For you to say you side with R20 who says 'ALW's movie musicals have all flopped' makes the two of you wrong.

by Anonymousreply 87June 14, 2025 3:00 PM

R87 What was the other "hit?"

Release dates DO matter when you have to go back half a century to find a success.

by Anonymousreply 88June 14, 2025 3:11 PM

[quote]Release dates DO matter when you have to go back half a century to find a success.

Says who ? You ?

SMH

His hits were : JCS in 1973, and 'Evita' in 1996 (which grossed over $141M at the box office against a $55M budget and turned a profit for the studio). Or does 'Evita' not count to you because that was released 29 years ago ?

by Anonymousreply 89June 14, 2025 3:43 PM

No way they’re giving a movie version of Sunset to a nobody like Nicole S

by Anonymousreply 90June 14, 2025 3:54 PM

Shut up Glenn Close, you're too old.

by Anonymousreply 91June 14, 2025 4:12 PM

I think Close is exactly the right age. Modern audiences won’t accept this from a 50 year old. It will from an 80 year old

by Anonymousreply 92June 14, 2025 4:22 PM

R89 Okay. Two hits in the last 52 years.

My God, ALW is on a roll!

by Anonymousreply 93June 14, 2025 4:28 PM

JCS and Evita were not hits. And they are certainly forgotten today, unlike the classic musicals that are continually played on TV.

by Anonymousreply 94June 14, 2025 4:34 PM

I won a Golden Globe for Evita!

It's like whole world's giving you an award!

by Anonymousreply 95June 14, 2025 4:37 PM

R95 - I got one of those too!

by Anonymousreply 96June 14, 2025 4:43 PM

[quote] You think Glenn close could pass for someone born in 1985 [R8]?

The character of Norma Desmond was born in 1900.

Glenn could pass for that.

by Anonymousreply 97June 14, 2025 4:44 PM

R89 "Evita" finished 39th in terms of 1997 box office receipts, behind "Flubber" and "Anaconda."

by Anonymousreply 98June 14, 2025 4:57 PM

I wouldn't say JCS is a forgotten musical. It's shown regularly around Easter time. They also redid it recently for network TV with John Legend that was well received and won a few Emmys.

by Anonymousreply 99June 14, 2025 5:10 PM

R99 That John Legend version was an abomination.

by Anonymousreply 100June 14, 2025 5:15 PM

LOL at R98 - That's some Grade A Datalounge shade right there! Extra points for brevity.

by Anonymousreply 101June 14, 2025 5:18 PM

That's "Anaconda, starring Jennifer Lopez"

by Anonymousreply 102June 14, 2025 5:50 PM

Jesus Christ, Superstar just sucks. It’s so dated with its electric guitars. I can never watch more than a few minutes of any version

by Anonymousreply 103June 14, 2025 7:30 PM

Has Nicole been offered Mary Magdalene yet? What's this thread about?

by Anonymousreply 104June 14, 2025 8:36 PM

[quote]JCS and Evita were not hits.

Their respective box office receipts prove otherwise, but why bother with such things as facts when we have you talking out of your ass ?

[quote]Okay. Two hits in the last 52 years. My God, ALW is on a roll!

Four movies released by a B'way producer in the last 52 years of which half of his output were box office hits. Not a bad record to have from someone who's 50+ year career is focused on B'way musicals and not Hollywood movies. But you already knew that, just like you know you're wrong when you adamantly stated that all his movies are flops. Keep trying, though - you seem to be having fun desperately trying to prove you're right.

by Anonymousreply 105June 14, 2025 9:50 PM

R105, No, they were not hits. I don't know why you keep spinning them as hits? And they are completely forgotten today.

Evita was a critical and box-office mess.

by Anonymousreply 106June 14, 2025 11:01 PM

R104, appropriate pic for someone who used to sing in a group called The Pussycat Dolls.

by Anonymousreply 107June 14, 2025 11:48 PM

She’s a terrible person. A Trumper and a cunt.

by Anonymousreply 108June 15, 2025 12:03 AM

They should just computer de-age Glen. The person in this role needs to be able to act. They can fix her singing in post-production too. Nicole is powerful but not really right for a traditional film version. And even if Madonna could act, she can't star in another ALW movie. I think this is his one musical that hasn't been adapted that could work, but only with the right lead.

by Anonymousreply 109June 15, 2025 12:18 AM

Nicole may have been a fine fit for this re-imagining, but she wouldn’t suit a production or film with the proper 1950s aesthetic.

by Anonymousreply 110June 15, 2025 1:02 AM

A vote for Michelle Pfeiffer!!!

by Anonymousreply 111June 15, 2025 1:18 AM

Not since Ben Platt.

by Anonymousreply 112June 15, 2025 5:27 AM

R105 conveniently ignoring R98.

:-)

by Anonymousreply 113June 15, 2025 11:39 AM

Sounds like it could work as 2 movies..id watch both.

by Anonymousreply 114June 15, 2025 12:30 PM

[quote] Evita was a critical and box-office mess.

R98, R115.

R98.

by Anonymousreply 116June 15, 2025 12:55 PM

R116 So? For those of us who actually lived through that period, Evita was generally considered a success at the time - it was generally well received, got multiple awards (19 wins & 44 nominations), garnered Madonna her best film critiques to this day, and the film actually turned a profit...even if it wasn't the biggest box office hit of the time. There's more to the context of its success (and faults) than just the box office number ranking.

R117 I loved through it, too.

It wasn't quite the earth shattering event you describe it as.

^ Make that "lived."

I really didn't love it.

by Anonymousreply 119June 15, 2025 1:42 PM

Can someone explain to me - feel free to provide a link if you think it's a spoiler - why the revival ends up with the Joe and Norma in their underwear covered in blood?

A la Chita Rivera in the movie version of Chicago, Glenn may be offered a consolation role - in this case, that of the dead monkey.

by Anonymousreply 121June 15, 2025 2:21 PM

R120 Because each actor had a 'no full nudity' clause in their contracts, so they had to do the scene in their underwear, not nude.

by Anonymousreply 122June 15, 2025 3:06 PM

For real?

by Anonymousreply 123June 15, 2025 3:11 PM

I thought Webber was done with her when she left for a paycheck to work on X Factor.

by Anonymousreply 124June 15, 2025 3:23 PM

Glenn Close for the Hollywood adaptation is laughable and only something some old DL queen who still listens to Melissa Manchester and beat off to Robert Redford in magazines back in the day could only imagine happening.

Unless producers want the movie to make $100 dollars at the box office, they would have to heavily adapt and remake the musical for Gen Z and millennial audiences.

The people who loved the musical 20 years are dead or too old / disabled to even go to the movie theater.

Nicole should play a washed up star from the 90s or even a pop singer.

by Anonymousreply 125June 15, 2025 3:36 PM

At the time of the film and the musical, Norma was 50-ish. She had been retired from film since "talkies" forced the end of her career. In the source film Swanson was only 50, had the Theda Bara-ish look and movement so many now seem to affect when playing Norma. Many silent film "stars" were 15-18 and previously waitresses, a quality I like to see in a Norma. In today's Broadway show Nicole Scherzinger plays mad beautifully. She certainly would do well in the film, doing a traditional version, no need for a revisal.

by Anonymousreply 126June 15, 2025 3:56 PM

The thing is, no matter how glorious Ms. Close can be on film, at her present age I don't think she would work well as an older Norma.

by Anonymousreply 127June 15, 2025 3:59 PM

I keep seeing "Move over, Miss Cleo..." every time this thread comes up.

by Anonymousreply 128June 15, 2025 4:05 PM

Our lead Zoomer has spoken. He took time away from playing 'Minecraft' to post this for us.

by Anonymousreply 129June 15, 2025 4:10 PM

A washed up pop singer singing Broadway show tunes?

It wouldn't make 100 dollars with Nicole advertised as the lead either.

by Anonymousreply 130June 15, 2025 5:15 PM

Set it in the 90's and then have the pop singer's silicone tits explode at the end from being under the hot lights too long.

by Anonymousreply 131June 15, 2025 5:18 PM

This girl need to have seats cause ain’t nobody checking for her mulatto pussy.

by Anonymousreply 132June 15, 2025 5:39 PM

Norma should be reimagined as a teen pop princess turning the dreaded 30.

This would bring in a younger audience and make everybody happy.

Not Billie Eilish… someone thinner. (Well, plump might be okay to start as long as she can drop it in the middle for studio visit scene.)

by Anonymousreply 133June 15, 2025 5:42 PM

R125, Gen Z probably cares even less about Nicole Scherzinger than they do about Glenn Close

by Anonymousreply 134June 15, 2025 5:43 PM

R134 Definitely not true and I’m not saying Gen Z is so hooyah over Nicole Sherzinger but think about what you are saying. Pussycats Dolls and Dontcha were hugely popular when they was in grade school. And a couple of their songs get recurrent play on adult top 40. Nicole was/is also a sex symbol. It’s the nostalgic factor. I bet most Gen Z cannot name G on sight alone. She would be “that’s the lady from…” territory.

by Anonymousreply 135June 15, 2025 5:47 PM

Her solo career bombed because Gen Z and Millennials do not care about her

by Anonymousreply 136June 15, 2025 5:53 PM

Amazing voice, but her name sucks and she looks scary thin with huge jugs.

by Anonymousreply 137June 15, 2025 6:01 PM

Mariah Carey could do it justice. She's the right age. And she can sing the score.

by Anonymousreply 138June 15, 2025 6:03 PM

Carey would be great on stage, not necessarily in the current revival, but a revival of the original concept with the magnificent costumes.

by Anonymousreply 139June 15, 2025 6:06 PM

Mariah still thinks she's 19, would she agree to play an over-the-hill actress?

by Anonymousreply 140June 15, 2025 6:07 PM

R136 Wrong. Her solo career went nowhere because like most solo careers, the songs were trash in an overly saturated market. Also she was too racially ambiguous. When it comes to women, that will hurt you. However, she still remained a relevant sex symbol constantly on the cover of Maxim, presenting at award shows, etc. I have Gen Z friends but more importantly pay attention to sociology. Gen Z grew up with social media, blogs, internet culture. They knew who she is way more than Glen Close.

by Anonymousreply 141June 15, 2025 6:10 PM

Just because they know who she is doesn't mean they care about her, or would pay to see her in a movie

It's mostly older people who are interested in Sunset Boulevard, anyway

by Anonymousreply 142June 15, 2025 6:12 PM

I wasn’t even thinking about Gen Z! I was thinking about millennials! People under 45!

You guys are so old you don’t realize under 45 year olds were just SMALL children the musical first came out. They were barely teenagers when Glenn Close took the role.

With that said, if you guys think people under 50 would go and see this movie with Glenn Close, you must be not aware how old you are.

The Gen Z jokes fall flat cause you think only teenagers wouldn’t know who the hell Glenn Close and Sunset Boulevard are lol

by Anonymousreply 143June 15, 2025 6:14 PM

Millennials know Glenn Close from stuff like 101 Dalmatians.

If you think Nicole Scherzinger will be any kind of a real draw, you don't know much about movie audiences of ANY age

by Anonymousreply 144June 15, 2025 6:18 PM

R142. I agree with you. She has never lead a film and I actually don’t know if she ever made a theater released motion picture. That’s not my point. Her performance in Sunset has picked up steam on TikTok & social media. Nicole Sherzinger is a fairly well known B list celebrity and is beautiful. This will we need a bigger audience than elder theater queens. Unless it just plans to be a NY/La theater/art release which it doesn’t have that intention because look at the casting debated. G is my favorite. When is the last time she had a commercial hit. Not success but hit. Cause that Hillbilly elegy flopped.

I have a little bit of a marketing/advertisement background. Nicole could successfully make this thing a mainstream type hit bigger than the award season, year end best lists. Oscar noms don’t even really make films wildly financially successful like they used to.

by Anonymousreply 145June 15, 2025 6:21 PM

favorite actress*

by Anonymousreply 146June 15, 2025 6:21 PM

R144 I guess we can agree to disagree because I don’t think you actually get my point. I keep saying it but you aren’t getting it.

by Anonymousreply 147June 15, 2025 6:22 PM

G is the greatest actress of all time, so there is no doubt in my mind she is capable of delivering a truly stellar performance that might make this the smart man’s Wicked. However I feel like this thing is having a small pop culture moment with Nicole. It would be wise for Hollywood to think outside the box and seize it. G has aged out.

by Anonymousreply 148June 15, 2025 6:26 PM

R144 Nicole would not be the draw but neither was Cynthia Erivo.

Nicole is at least marketable.

Glenn is an old lady. The movie would instantly be an old lady movie for old people. Flop.

by Anonymousreply 149June 15, 2025 6:28 PM

Nicole is not "marketable"

Cynthia Erivo headlined a big hit film. Nicole Scherzinger has not, and probably never will

by Anonymousreply 150June 15, 2025 6:30 PM

I’m available. After my country tour, I’m doing a rock opera but I’ll find time while skiing in Aspen.

by Anonymousreply 151June 15, 2025 6:30 PM

R128 You and me both!

by Anonymousreply 152June 15, 2025 6:32 PM

Well, of course it's an "old lady movie"....tweens aren't going to see Sunset Boulevard regardless of who is in it

At least Glenn might bring in some of the older crowd

Nicole will bring in NOBODY

by Anonymousreply 153June 15, 2025 6:32 PM

R153 Maybe some horny old dudes who are hoping for some "loosen up my buttons" moves.

by Anonymousreply 154June 15, 2025 6:34 PM

Delusional Glenn doesn't want to admit she's too old for the movie.

by Anonymousreply 155June 15, 2025 6:35 PM

She only attempted her solo career once. People are acting like she is some flop one hit wonder. Pussycat Dolls is the most successful female group of the aughts and I keep iterating this, Nicole Sherzinger is a sex symbol. She is definitely marketable. She just went solo with all the Beyoncé’s, Rihanna’s, Keri Hilsons, Fergies, and Christinas. Then she didn’t try again. What she did do is lead one last Pussycat album after solo flop, that was again successful. There are iconic superstars whose debut albums flopped. And still are flops. In the music world, you cannot be racially ambiguous as a female. It will hurt you amongst females. It weird. People didn’t know if she was Puerto Rican, white, or a lightskin black girl. And then the last name made it rougher lol. That’s why half black Mariah had to be black, even though she presents white. She also had a 4 octave range and whistle register though.

R168 They said the same thing about Chicago. They should pull it off on a small budget, say 30M, guaranteed to make its money back.

by Anonymousreply 169June 15, 2025 7:03 PM

R150. What percentage of people do you think went to see Wicked BECAUSE Erivo co-headlined? Single digits, I'm sure.

For every Chicago, there's a Rent

by Anonymousreply 171June 15, 2025 7:05 PM

R170, what number of people will pay to see Nicole Scherzinger in a movie? 5? Maybe 6?

by Anonymousreply 172June 15, 2025 7:07 PM

R172 It would need a strong male lead to bring in an audience.

But who would that be?

by Anonymousreply 173June 15, 2025 7:09 PM

Rent was a crappy movie directed by a shitty director. And it goes to show that a musical aimed at young people (Rent, In the Heights, WSS) are no box office guarantee.

by Anonymousreply 174June 15, 2025 7:10 PM

[quote]Cynthia Erivo headlined a big hit film. Nicole Scherzinger has not, and probably never will

Wicked smashed because of Ariana Grande's box-office power. Cynthia sold 5 tickets by herself. Erivo got lucky when they cast Ariana, because she made it a hit and raised Erivo's profile.

by Anonymousreply 179June 15, 2025 7:26 PM

Now, they want Scherzinger for Sunset Boulevard?

Do casting directors have any idea what they're doing?

by Anonymousreply 180June 15, 2025 7:27 PM

R180 I'm not really sure anyone wants Scherzinger for Sunset Boulevard besides Scherzinger.

I think she's just throwing shit out there to see if it sticks.

by Anonymousreply 181June 15, 2025 7:31 PM

Obviously perfect casting for the movie version would be Carroll Baker as Norma (she's only 94) and Dean Cain as Joe.....but they better get on it STAT!

by Anonymousreply 182June 15, 2025 8:41 PM

R180 Oh right! Let’s cast 80 year old Glenn Close for the film cause that’ll fill up movie theaters.

by Anonymousreply 183June 15, 2025 8:42 PM

Annette Bening would be my pick.

by Anonymousreply 184June 15, 2025 9:16 PM

I don't think there's an audience for a Sunset movie. Wicked is a huge long running musical with a fandom size audience. Where is the fandom for Sunset Blvd? There's not even an audience here for the theatre friendly DL crowd. Nicole Scherzinger is never going to happen. She lucked out and found mainstream success as the lead in a sexy girl group. Her solo career fizzled, and she pivoted to reality TV to get steady paying gigs (Dancing with the Stars, The Sing-Off, X-Factor UK, The Masked Singer, etc.).

If they do it, it would probably have to be done on a smaller scale, and go direct to streaming. The time for it to be a big theatrical piece has long since passed with how the industry is now. Should have been done in the later 90s to mid 00s using Glen. ALW should have gotten directly on it after Evita.

by Anonymousreply 199June 16, 2025 10:18 PM

by Anonymousreply 200June 16, 2025 10:19 PM

Nicole Scherzinger 'has Andrew Lloyd Webber's support to star in a film adaptation of Sunset Boulevard after successful Broadway run'

Nicole Scherzinger has reportedly got Andrew Lloyd Webber's support to star as Norma Desmond in a film adaptation of Sunset Boulevard.

The former Pussycat Doll, 47, won critical and public acclaim for her recent portrayal of the faded silent film star on Broadway.

Nicole is reported to be '100% committed' to the musical, which won the Tony Award for Best Revival of a Musical.

The LA source told The Mirror: 'Andrew wants to make the movie with Nicole. He feels the momentum after the Broadway run needs to be harnessed.

'There is a sense that this is closer than ever now which, for Andrew, will be a delight, given the years he's worked for it.'

The source went on to claim that filming could begin as early as next year if the project progresses in time.

They said: 'Andrew feels Nicole and the cast have the appeal to bring musicals back to the Oscars. People forget the film versions of Les Miserables and Chicago both blew up in cinemas and scored rafts of awards.'

Nicole has previously discussed the possibility of starring in a film adaptation of the musical, admitting earlier this year: 'That's my dream.

'So I'm manifesting it right now.'

The Daily Mail has reached out to representatives for Andrew and Nicole for comment.

The claims come after Nicole reportedly brought the house down with her final dramatic performance in Sunset Boulevard last month.

by Anonymousreply 216August 14, 2025 8:13 AM

She’s a maga? That’s sad. I was shocked recently to find out that Mike Tyson and Snoop are maga. I don’t get it.

by Anonymousreply 217August 14, 2025 8:50 AM

by Anonymousreply 219August 14, 2025 12:07 PM

by Anonymousreply 220August 14, 2025 12:24 PM

I kind of feel like Glenn would be the definite choice (and she seems fairly close to ALW), but the movie should have already happened. It's been too long. Maybe she is willing to give it up now that Nicole came along and was a big success in the revival. It's sad, though, to think it could have been Glenn. But I really do think she has more or less aged out of the role. If they started filming tomorrow, it might work, but what are the chances?

by Anonymousreply 221August 14, 2025 4:38 PM

I thought Glenn was somehow tied into approval over casting, as per her original contract. Essentially the play and any potential movie were a package deal.

Otherwise you’d think ALW would have proceeded with a movie version starring someone else long ago.

by Anonymousreply 222August 14, 2025 5:31 PM

R222 Yes, Glenn Close is the reason why we haven't seen a film version yet and the old cunt is still campaigning for herself to star.

by Anonymousreply 223August 14, 2025 5:38 PM

I sure don't want to see Nicole's face on the big screen in a close up shot!

by Anonymousreply 224August 14, 2025 5:55 PM

I thought Paramount Studios - which still owns the original from 75 years ago - is the reason the movie won't get made ? They won't finance it, nor will they let another studio have the rights to it. That's what I've always heard.

by Anonymousreply 225August 14, 2025 10:49 PM

[quote]If Madonna could act, she'd be the perfect physical type for the role. A delusional, aging hag, so desperate to hold onto to her youth that she's butchered her face into an unrecognizable horror show.

That is so true. Physically and age-wise, Madonna is perfect for Norma Desmond. Unfortunately she is one of the worst actresses in the history of the world. If she could actually act, she would be so right for the part.

by Anonymousreply 226August 14, 2025 11:05 PM

Madonna is too self-conscious to be a good actress. You can see her thinking her lines before she says them.

Catherine Zeta-Jones would be perfect for Norma in every sense.

Don’t you think she’s too beautiful? Norma is supposed to be vaguely repentant, I’d think. Otherwise Joe would be naturally attracted to her.

by Anonymousreply 229August 14, 2025 11:20 PM

Let's face it, Sunset Boulevard is no Chicago, which had all memorable songs while SB has maybe two. I saw Glenn in it and I loved the staging but overall the show felt overstuffed with music that wasn't needed.

by Anonymousreply 230August 14, 2025 11:23 PM

In this version, none of that matters. All that matters is twerking on the floor and giving 25 foot face.

by Anonymousreply 231August 14, 2025 11:24 PM

R229 Norma was once a beautiful girl, now she's an aging beauty whose ego has made her a bit ridiculous. CZJ can more than pull that one.
