The Tonys are officially more popular than the Emmys.
Is it me or are The Tony Awards getting more press than usual

The Emmys? I think the Tonys are more popular than the Oscars. Hollywood has more money and more publicity but Broadway seems to have the most fans.

It’s you

They’re better shows. More glamour & class.

Nobody cares about award shows.

I do!

When you have an old pot of stew sitting out for a long time, it's best to stir the pot to bring out the flavors.
I believe the words you were looking for are "THANK YOU PATTI"
My pleasure, of course. It's what I do. It's my gift to the Broadway community.

The Tonys had a record year last week, drawing in 4.85 million viewers. But the Oscarcast this winter had [bold]more than four times[/bold] that viewership, at 19.6 million viewers.

One of the things I loved about living in the West Village years ago is on two different years, I was walking around and I kept hearing these yells and cheers from clearly gay men celebrating. Yep - it was the Tony Awards on television. You could hear it along multiple streets.

It's the gay Super Bowl!

I think it did get way more press and attention this year, because of a few things:
- Cynthia Erivo, a cast member of the Wicked film and someone who just came out with a new album, was hosting
- Hamilton reunion
- And perhaps most of all, the Audra McDonald vs Nicole Whatsersnatch competition for Lead Actress in a musical, tied in with the scandalous Patti LuPone article that mentioned Audra. Everyone watched to see if Patti was there (she wasn't) or if the controversy would be mentioned (it never was, though Oprah alluded to it).

It was a rather strong Broadway season.

I prefer to think of the Super Bowl as the straight Tonys.

R12 - I could go for a Tonys half-time show from a major performer. It doesn't always need to be current productions.
Anything would be better than that Kendrick Lamarr travesty.

I would add that Cole Escola and Oh Mary had a bit of fandom outside the standard B'way circles. Probably the same for Darren Criss, too.

R14 - let's not forget - Death Becomes Her has always been a favorite of the gays - and as a musical? Many fainted from ecstasy, making Catholic saints look like amateurs.

R12, perfect! I like the way you think.
