Speaking of Marjorie Rambeau…

Just saw a great movie called ‘’Primrose Path’’ 1940. She had some great scenes-a unique and sympathetic character. Ginger Rodgers and Joel McCrea star. She was also great in ‘’First Lady’’ starring our old friend Kay Francis-1937.

I love the scene (memory a bit fuzzy) where she and Ginger are talking about the failures of her husband and how and why she accepts that this is their lot in life. Interesting too how they show him as essentially bedridden from his alcoholism, not as a high functioning or happy-go-lucky drunk. A well-deserved Oscar nomination.

Great acting. So believable.

She’s also fun as Joan Crawford’s mother in “Torch Song” (another Oscar nomination, though her role is kind of “blink and you miss it.”

I enjoyed very much working with Margie and made certain she had the most pivotal scenes.

Marjorie Rambeau hit me in the head with a fondue pot.

I loved this movie. Thanks for reminding me, OP.

She was also excellent in the film Man’s Castle from 1933, a very good pre-code drama with another character actor Arthur Hohl, who plays a real skeezer. I’m not always a Spencer Tracy Fan, but he has a scene in that film that is very moving.
