Was Ricky Ricardo's full first name "Ricardo"?

It couldn't have just been a nickname based on his last name, because then he and Lucy wouldn't have given "Little Ricky" as the name for their son.

So he would have had to have been named Ricardo Ricardo.

Glen R. Glenn provided the inspiration.

His wife picked her nose and his son is a moron.

by Anonymousreply 2June 12, 2025 3:41 PM

I don't see the issue here.

by Anonymousreply 3June 12, 2025 4:12 PM

It could also have been Enrique or Frederico, although Frederico often becomes Rico..

"Enrique Alberto Ricardo IV, better known as Little Ricky"

Enrique Alberto Fernando Ricardo y de Acha III

by Anonymousreply 6June 12, 2025 5:14 PM

He should've been Quique or Kiki instead of Ricky.

by Anonymousreply 7June 12, 2025 5:16 PM

But they used to make fun of Mr. Katimski on "My So-Called Life" because he thought Ricky's full name was "Enrique."

by Anonymousreply 8June 12, 2025 5:20 PM

"Enrique" is a beautiful name.

But in Spanish (and Italian as "Enrico") its English translation is "Henry" .

by Anonymousreply 9June 12, 2025 6:23 PM

Henry is a beautiful name as well.

r10n= Meghan Sussex (NOT Markle!)

by Anonymousreply 11June 12, 2025 6:33 PM

R9 Maybe they thought "Little Ricky" had a better ring to it or maybe Desi Arnaz was unfamiliar with the proper translation of Spanish to English names.

by Anonymousreply 12June 12, 2025 6:40 PM

Like every Latino guy, his first name was probably Jose and he used a nickname.

by Anonymousreply 13June 12, 2025 6:44 PM

Personally, I prefer Little Ricky to RJ. People have a tendency to use intials when there's a junior, i.e. DJ, BJ (insert snort here).

What?

by Anonymousreply 15June 12, 2025 7:07 PM

[quote] because then he and Lucy wouldn't have given "Little Ricky" as the name for their son.

Huh?? It was a cute nickname.

[quote]Enrique Alberto Fernando Ricardo y de Acha III

Desi's full birth name was Desiderio Alberto Arnaz y de Acha III, so you can see where they got that from.

BTW, Ricky Martin's first name is also Enrique.

by Anonymousreply 17June 12, 2025 8:33 PM

Ricky Ricardo’s first name is ‘Dick.’

by Anonymousreply 18June 12, 2025 10:13 PM

[quote]BTW, Ricky Martin's first name is also Enrique.

He is Kiki among close friends. He took the name Ricky as a stage name.

R19 So was "Little Ricky". I'm sure that Desi, Lucy and the others at Desilu Productions felt that the name would have mass appeal. They were probably right.
