The "yuppie horror" film "Pacific Heights" (1990)

I watched this on Prime earlier this evening. Michael Keaton and Melanie Griffith give it their best here, though I found the film disappointingly lacking in suspense. Matthew Modine's performance in it is godawful, and I'm glad to see some critics at the time called him out for it. Roger Ebert summarized it as a "yuppie horror" film. Laurie Metcalf, Dan Hedaya, Beverly D'Angelo, and Miriam Margoyles have minor roles.

Producers should have titled it Specific Whites, after the neighborhood's nickname and the main cast's demographics.

Wonder what they paid for that house in 1990? $400k?

Sounds like an Aaron Spelling show.

Because that’s what Datalounge lives for, after all.

I remember it as an odd film, just more frustrating and irritating to watch but not actually engaging. I recall a long scene with a nail gun, and an earlier one involving roaches or mice deliberately released to force tenants out and harm the main characters’ ability to pay their mortgage.

Indeed. I've been scared of nail guns ever since.

If it was really a yuppie horror film wouldn’t it be called “The Marina”?

Pacific Heights is old money.

My favorite Pacific Heights memory was stopping in a pet store there and listening to a doyenne complain about how her son in NY was unhappy that the had to live in their condo in the new Hudson Yards towers, because all his friends live in Brooklyn.
