What even is this movie? The opening scenes are 45% Costner and jiggling bare breasts. Does anyone enjoy this Pentagon thriller?
No Way Out (1987)

Loved it when it came out.

Yes, but I love a twist ending.

Agree with R2, R3, and Costner was (is) hot.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | June 11, 2025 11:59 PM |
I guess that means I agree with R1 too.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | June 11, 2025 11:59 PM |
Maybe hotter than Baldwin in Hunt for Red October. But his character is repellent here.

I lived in DC when this came out, and saw it at a local theatre. Lots of laughter while on a frantic chase scene in the streets of Georgetown, Costner jumps into a DC metro station to escape the bad guys.
There is NO metro in Georgetown. The filming also showed the Toronto underground. Holy worm hole, Batman.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | June 12, 2025 12:10 AM |
Supposedly (true or not) it led to people wanting to take slow limo rides around DC.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | June 12, 2025 12:15 AM |
What was the point of one of the character’s being gay? Seemed just like an excuse to have a dead gay.

Isn't the slimy, unctuous, sycophantic, undervalued gay assistant who is unrequitedly in love with his robustly heterosexual, womanizing boss (and cleans up his messes) some sort of homophobic trope? (I'm thinking 'Smithers' from The Simpsons and the aide to the PM in the 'Little Britain' skits--there must be others). They're always insanely jealous of the hated wife/girlfriend, of course. Will Patton is a good actor, but that role was written at the very end of the era when such one-dimensional homophobic characters were still acceptable.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | June 12, 2025 12:27 AM |
Will Patton always pinged to me.
I’m not sure if he ever married.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | June 12, 2025 12:46 AM |
Yes, it's a long outdated trope, r10, but the closeted sycophant role played by gay men in far right, conservative circles is alive and well.
Stuart Stevens:
[QUOTE]I can promise you the Trump campaign has many closeted gay men, a constant in Republican circles, particularly with the most right wing element.

Never saw it but I think it was a big date movie at the time. If you took your chick to this movie, afterwards you were sure to score. It turned women into sluts who just wanted to get up on it.

Yes! And that Riverwalk scene during the chase? Shot in San Antonio. I remember the audience laughing out loud at that shot.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | June 12, 2025 1:10 AM |
Don't get me started about movies set in Chicago. They have addresses that would place the location well into Lake Michigan.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | June 12, 2025 1:15 AM |
Very enjoyable.Very dated.

Saw it opening weekend and was mesmerized by Costner’s utter beauty in it. I was in Bloomington, IN, studying at their Russian immersion program and cringed at how bad his “Russian” was. (It was common before the 1990s, non-Russians playing native Russians and phoning in their speaking the language.)
The Scott Prichard character was eye-roll-inducing even back then. It is the one Sean Young role that doesn’t make me sad.

Loved it and it holds up. Watched it a few months ago.

Never saw the film , but definitely jerked off to that poster with the nipple. Many times.

I saw it when it came out. Enjoyed it. Great ending.

The link at r12 is pay walled and archive.ph only captures the first paragraph..
Here's Stevens discussing the piece with Rick Wilson.

R9, the movie is based on a film from the ‘forties, The Big Clock, in which the gay assistant character makes more sense. In that film, the killer (played by a really creepy Charles Laughton) is self-loathing and abusive. Given the Production Code, nothing could be spelled out, but it’s strongly implied that he and his assistant actually do have a personal relationship. So the assistant character in No Way Out is, in part, a lazy holdover from the source material.

Wasn't Iman in this?
by Anonymous | reply 23 | June 12, 2025 3:30 AM |
Yes, she was Sean Young's friend/roommate.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | June 12, 2025 3:36 AM |
Henry Morgan in "The Big Clock" is Laughton's assistant and henchman. Most famous for DRAGNET on TV.

Self-correction: HARRY Morgan.

I was so confused by Will Patton being in love with Gene Hackman.

Incoherent plot and Costner's usual lackluster acting.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | June 12, 2025 12:10 PM |
Love it. Costner is so fucking hot in it.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | June 12, 2025 12:23 PM |
Costner was so slim and handsome.
Sean Young was a beautiful woman but I could not get over her ugly hair.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | June 12, 2025 10:30 PM |
Costner was indeed quite luscious at that point. It was only a short phase during the late 80s and early 90s. But I'd say No Way Out and Bull Durham was when he was at his peak beauty.
Costner's always had trouble doing accents. His British accent in Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves came and went throughout the film. His Boston accent in Thirteen Days was laughable.

the two leads had chemistry in this

How Sean Young is not a bigger DL icon is beyond me.
Gorgeous, talented, totally nuts. Despised by Hollywood for telling the truth.
She should be in the DL Hall of Fame.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | June 13, 2025 12:51 AM |
I'll give you "gorgeous" and "totally nuts." "Talented" is debatable.

R37, she looks like she's on intimate terms with the Royal Doulton china with hand-painted periwinkles

You never know what wild adventures you’ll encounter during a night with Sean.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | June 13, 2025 1:17 AM |
Sean not only should be a gay icon, she needs to be one.
The support of the community would have truly helped her during her various “episodes” and adventures.
She’s perfect for a judge on RuPaul or grand marshall of a mid-size city Pride parade. 🏳️🌈
We’re here for you, Sean!
