This really defies logic. Go after the fast-food workers, Home Depot workers and contactors shopping at Home Depot to work on our homes. We will not allow legal immigration in numbers to address this, nor will we stop employers from hiring illegal immigrants. Immigrants of and status commit fewer crimes than citizens, and crime rates are lower in communities with more immigrants.

Thanks, R16. I am very well aware of this. My comments were more rhetorical. This is all hitting too close to home as my partner is Latino and works like a dog. My circle of friends are largely black and brown people, and I want them to be safe. NONE are criminal "bad guys." ICE is hitting the easy targets and anyone who does not look like a white person is a target right now. Immigration "status" is secondary here.

OP - various media have reported that ICE agents are turning up at high schools, medical clinics, courts, places of work, farms with field workers, known "day worker" areas and asking to see proof of citizenship for anyone they think doesn't look American. i.e that isn't white. If you don't have something to show you're American then they arrest the person. The Trump administration (Miller) has demanded a daily quota of 3000 arrests per day.

I know quite a few people in the community. The irony is that back in the 90s, most of them worked with a fake SSN, paid income and FICA taxes and got back nothing in return. Many even had medical insurance from their employers. (My roommate at the time was one of these people.)

Fast forward, same former roommate now gets paid under the table thanks to widespread e-verify usage, pays no taxes, and gets free medical insurance from the state of CA.
